@@646464mario well the battery life heavenly depends on what your doing. Linus tested the batteries and got (sorry if numbers aren’t correct just going off of memory) 15 hours for the MacBook air and 20 hours for the MacBook Pro, but those were only playing a video. So the same battery life is not expected for gaming.

@ i think it’s more so a long term concern. If it’s already getting warm when it’s fresh and no dust has collected into the system it is likely going to be very hot in a year or so. I imagine a cooling system like a cool pad will be needed tbh in the next 12-18 months for any gamers on the device in question :/

tbh i have the macbook pro with the m1 processor and it DOESN'T GET HOT/WARM AT ALL i have tried everything from rendering a 4k video to play rocket league i even opened like 56 apps on the laptop and not even a single framedrop was to be seen thats the power of m1 and the protuct of Apple

I am at a loss for words for how well it ran Rocket League. It ran better on there than it does on my PS4! Imagine if any of these games become optimized for Mac... Apple could literally step into the gaming community with something that doesn't need to look like it came from an alien ship (Pretty much all Gaming Laptops). I did not know that the M1 could actually do any of this kind of performace. Triple-A games are a joke nowadays anyways. The last one I bought was Cold War and I was disappointed. I get so much more fun from games that are Free - $25. I can't wait to see what happens in the next couple of years for Mac!

I mean those 16.8 billion transistors are nothing to sneeze at (cough* Intel cough*). That's more than my 2014 gaming rig had combining everything not including storage. What I was blown away by was how much effort they put into the Rosetta 2 emulation. Was honestly speechless by how little performance loss there was. Otherwise yes, the M1 has the single most powerful core currently available. Kudos apple engineering team.

Please everyone who is complaining that this can’t run games in 30fps THIS WAS NEVER MEANT FOR GAMING. macOS was meant for productivity and stuff like that. And you cant ignore the MASSIVE improvement from apple. This chip is a first gen product and scores higher in single core performance than a intel core i9. And even some high end ryzen chips. Even if i am not the biggest fan of apple, this is still revolutionary.

And is a bit better at GPU intensive stuff than the base air. Its worth the extra money tbh even for the battery life bonus alone. M1 pro has almost 20 hours battery life which is insane

Okay, Apple fanboy, first look at the settings that he runs this games on, second consider price of the laptop, third include absolute garbage OC, and complete with a MOBILE proceccor, go ahead, type that Air is not for gaming, this is a philosophy of Apple fanboys, they are not trying to get better, they will stick to sunken ship with Apple logo on it till they get drowned in its Eco system. I just want for you to remember that the laptop for 1400€ has a potential of GT 1030, same situation, it can game, but lel, on 1400x900 low settings?! Usually Apple lovers like to say they do not "waste their time on the necessary things like gaming" but show me at least one program on MacBook that you will be able to work with comfort and that has better performance that the same price range Laptops on normall OC called Windows.

But the thing you’re not trying to consider is that this power is actually WAY more than enough than most people actually want , and compared to the old Intel dual core and quad core processors, this thing is a beast, so don’t exactly take into account just the graphics power when measuring the capabilities of a chip. In addition, this is a first generation of a product that is completely new to the Mac, so I do not see the point of your toxicity here.

@yung gus I just prefer to call things by their proper names, of course I am extremely sensitive when it comes to technology, because I am against throwing money down the drain. I'm not just speaking for PC. I understand that most people choose a laptop because it is a compact and convenient solution, however, as I said earlier, given the purposes for which people prefer to take MacBook Air, I find it extremely stupid to overpay for something that is not clear. You can easily find better options for prices 2 times less while maintaining the same level of comfort. Not to mention the guarantee that your workstation does not turn into a brick after the next update. As for toxicity, excuse me as I said earlier, this is a sore topic for me.

What’s good about M1 is whether you’re plugged in or not you’ll still get full performance with its 5nm chip, and for normal use i think the battery’s great enough to use for 2 days.
