I have the M2 MacBook Air with 8GB of ram and 512GB SSD. I had the M1. This M2 is worth the upgrade for the build alone. As A blind person, I won't be doing any heavy visual work, but this machine is more than fast enough for regular web sight usage. If you are going to store any files on your system, you are going to need at least 512GB of storage.

EVERYDAY I've been using the base M2 Air (in Midnight) since the day it was released. Love it! I throw quit a bit at it during a normal work day. It always runs fast and cool. I love the Midnight color. Mine is docked at my desk most of the week, so I don't handle it and get fingerprints on it as much as other people who use their laptops. Wiping it down one or twice a week is totally fine for me. Most of the videos bashing the base model are overblown for 95% of users out there.

Hope this will have a long lifespan like the former Airs… Writing this on an Air 2011 and it is still working like a charm to be honest. It fell off the bed like 20 times, never saw the inside of a protective shell - while traveling with me on at least 30 longer trips. Used every day in my free time. The small weight and MagSafe sure helped it to reach this almost biblical age - I never understood how your laptop could NOT be an Apple Laptop (even if you install an alternative OS on it)…

I'm not a Macbook guy for career reasons, but I do love the look of the Midnight black M2 MBA. It is one of the most visually appealing laptops on the outside. Only the HP Dragonfly G3 looks as good.

Got the m1 max MacBook but i do miss the portability of the air. I just needed something that was going to work and never throttle and i have yet to experience an issue. With unlimited funds I’d buy this and probably upgrade the ram and storage.

Thanks for posting your excellent review. I ordered and have been using the 24GB, 2TB up spec'd air for a month now and I am so so glad that I didnt get the 14" pro. Everyday, I am reminded of this! This thing was able to get me 2TB of storage for under $2,500, and that is just not possible on the 14. Every time I pull it out of my bag I am amazed by how light it is. It is the perfect blend of everything I will need for years to come.

How’s the M2 Air treating you? Are there any other reasons you’re happy you chose the air over the 14 inch MBP? I’m debating whether to go for an M2 Air or wait until the 14 inch MBP M2 is available.

The M2 Air is perfect! I chose it for portability. And even with a hard plastic case, it is super compact. I never feel it heat up, and I often run Parallels Windows 10 on it, which is very processor intensive. My only recommendation is to max out the storage, as this machine is so perfect that you will keep it for a very long time. What seems like enough hard drive space now might not seem spacious in 2025.

All you need is an adjustable stand with a fan that sits under the air. Mine will stand up when in my recliner and sit down on the desktop with air flow from top and bottom. Also it will tilt.

It's the Gobe cleaning kit but it's tough to recommend after they increased their prices. Most screen cleaning sprays should work just as well

Hi Andrew, great review and I think you've nailed it with the use case. I use mine for office work and I travel quite a bit for client meetings, so having the portability is important to me. With the 16gb RAM and 512GB SSD, it handles everything I throw at it and light music production too. The keyboard does feel quite different (coming from an Intel Macbook Pro 2020 with the scissor switch). Could this be due to a shallower chassis vs the M1 Pro's? Regardless, I love the tactile nature of it and it feels in between that of the butterfly and scissor switch.

"Everyday." I just got my M2 MBA in Starlight. I was so excited but now I think I'm going to return it. I'm not a power user, yet I got the 8/512 GB version. My disappointment comes from the speakers. They sound like they cracked. I sold my M1 MBA because I wanted the new design. In fact, I was watching this video on the M2 MBA and switched to my Surface Pro 9 to see if it was just my mind playing tricks on me. Nope, it is the speakers. This video sounds perfectly fine on my Surface Pro 9. And it's not just this video. I noticed this happening frequently with KZbin videos and I spend a lot of my time watching KZbin.

Midnight color. Have that one too. But a laptop is foremost a tool. Something you achieve something with. It’s not a photo model. Yes there are fingerprints on it so I clean it occasionally. But it never borders me. It’s a tool after all. A beautiful one but nevertheless just a tool.

Hub that blocks the other USB port with a hub that literally has two USB-C ports. If I had to guess it was because there are hubs and other devices that plug in using both USB-C ports and they needed to ensure those were not made completely obsolete.

I love my Midnight M2 Air. I upgraded the GPU and RAM but kept the 256 SSD. I don't work with large files so read/write speed isn't a metric that is important to me. I'm an Economics student so I do use specialized modeling software and excel files and this laptop works great for my needs. I was upgrading from a 2016 13inch MBP with 256GB and 8GB RAM, so for me the speed, keyboard, and battery life are major improvements, even if my SSD is slower.

@@Khaanwavingflag that’s a good question. I don’t own any external SSDs so I couldn’t test that but it’s possible it could be. I think the thunderbolt ports max out at 40GBps? Most SSDs run below 10GBps so theoretically it could be possible ya. I’m surprised all of the KZbinrs who were making this out to be some fatal flaw and big controversy didn’t bother testing that.

I ordered the midnight blue too. But the new aluminum body has some painting issues. in some areas it is strangely lighter, as if there were scratches. some big ones and some small ones. when my hands are greasy, these stains appear. If you polish the device with a microfiber cloth, these spots will disappear for a while. that's why i applied for a replacement, i have several spots on the new macbook, even the apple logo has blisters. the touchpad is most affected. I want to know if someone else faced with the same issue?

The keyboard on the M2 air is definitely not exactly the same as the one on the MacBook Pro. There’s lots of online discussion, but something is different in the key force/bottom out. It makes it a much nicer typing experience, for such a small change.

Hello Andrew, thank you for the review! I am looking to buy the M2 very soon. Do you recommend getting the 256 GB SSD (base model) or the 512 GB SSD for the casual user? I will be using my laptop for writing, primarily using Google Drive (Docs) and I have no idea what an SSD does 😅 Or would it just better to upgrade the GPU instead? Also, do you have a case/sleeve recommendation? I am in between getting a 13-inch and a 14-inch size case. Thank you!

No don’t upgrade the GPU. If you upgrade something upgrade the SSD, but reading your use case, I think the base model will be more than enough.

@@obsidian98 I think even the base model would completely destroy your HP laptop, no question, it’s on a different league. But eventually in a couple years, it could slow down. Anyway having 500gb ssd is more pleasant because you don’t run out of space so quickly, and when your SSD is full, then the problems begin since the laptop can no longer use swap memory comfortably

Perhaps you should try the Matebook X Pro that Huawei recently announced. The top end version has a kind of material that sticks less fingerprint, and in my opinion is more beautiful than the MBA's midnight blue.

Yeah, I appreciate the USB C port on the right hand side of my MacBook Pro. I find the HDMI port to be useless. Better to just give us another USB C on the right hand side. The HDMI port doesn't even work well in my experience.

It’s really tough to not say both! For working remotely where I know I won’t be video editing, I’ll take the MacBook Air M2 always. You can’t beat its portability. For workflows where it’s intensive and I know I need to plug in multiple drives/accessories and use the SD slot, it’s the M1 MBP hands down. If you need the power and adaptability, I’d have to recommend the M1 MBP.

I used the laptop for close to 2 months . Cons -the hinge doesn't work properly One hand opening isn't working There are some glitches sometimes the laptop become really slow and crashes The midnight is finger print and dust magnet
