I have been using the Apple M2 MacBook Air for the past 4 months. Today I am going to share with you my long term experience with the M2 Air and why I think this MacBook is almost perfect. If you’re thinking of getting the M2 MacBook Air, this video will cover everything you need to know! My Spec, base model. Price $1199 or £1249, $200 or £249 more than M1 Air. 8 core CPU, 8 core GPU, 8GB unified memory, 256GB SSD. I would upgrade SSD to 500GB, worth it in the long run. Colour Midnight, looks great. Black in dark environments, dark blue in light. But is a fingerprint magnet! If you like your tech to look clean, go for the lighter Starlight or Silver. Still, from a durability perfective, the Midnight colour has held up well. The design of M2 Air is modern and sharp with flat edges and I love it! At 11mm thin and 2.7 pounds, it is a joy to carry and take on the go, great if you’re a student going between classes, or travel often. From a build perspective, the M2 Air is rock solid. I really enjoy MagSafe to charge, is magnetic so will auto unplug. M2 Air is equipped with 2 USB C thunderbolt ports and a headphone port. Scissor switch keyboard: enough travel, clicky feedback. Touch ID great to quickly login. Trackpad is big and best in class. 1080p webcam, does the job, mics are impressive, good for zoom calls. Speakers too are surprisingly good. M2 Air had a fan-less design. No moving parts, good for durability, and means silent operation. 13.6” Liquid Retina display, 13.3” larger than M1. 60hz, unlike the even smoother 120hz on M1 Pro MacBook Pro. The M2 Air’s display 500 nits, bright enough for any indoors setting. Rounded corners, thinner bezels and the notch, allow for a bigger display in body that is no bigger than previous MacBook Air. This display is fantastic to use, the best I’ve seen at this price. What is the performance like? M2 chip, 1.4x times faster than previous M1 chip. I typically have 8-12 apps open at all times, and it runs great. To my surprise, the 8GB of ram was just fine. Yes 16GB would be even better, but I never found myself needing more. As a content creator, I use FCP everyday and FCP runs well, I've edited multiple videos entirely on the M2 Air. Exporting a 10 minute 4K project took just over 6 mins, not far the M1 Pro MacBook Pro. When it came to rendering and upscaling the difference in performance between the M2 MacBook Air and M1 Pro MacBook Pro is more clear. Still, for a laptop as thin and light as the M2 Air, not to mention significantly more lower cost compared to the M1 Pro MacBook Pro, I find these results to be really impressive! With all this performance, how is the battery life?
Apple M2 chip not just powerful but also power efficient. I can easily use it all-day with mixed use, again 8-12 apps open, with 30% remaining. If you’re someone who needs a portable laptop, with incredible battery life, great modern design and performance that will more than deliver for regular productivity tasks, but that can also handle the occasional video/photo editing, then the M2 MacBook Air is the one to get and is a excellent laptop! Just think twice about that Midnight colour, and especially if you do any creative work, get the 512GB model - it will be worth it in the long run, trust me.

Let me start by saying I absolutely love your channel. Your videos are very informative and unbiased. This allows the viewer to decide for themselves whether they will purchase a product or not. What I absolutely love about the M2 Air is that it's so thin and light. You don't realize how much the size matters, but having a machine that's this thin and light. Makes you want to use it more than a machine that's heavier. The display is also really nice it's crisp and clean. The M2 Air is also very fast, I compared it in a side by side comparison with the M1. I noticed that the M2 was a lot faster. Like you this machine won't be replacing my 16" inch M1 Pro MacBook. Thank you for the review. I purchased the exact same configuration a few days ago, but I am considering sending it back for the 512mb SSD. The one thing so many reviews are saying about this machine in the midnight color is that it is a "fingerprint magnet." I struggle to understand why or even how this is important. Showing prints has absolutely nothing to do with the machine's performance, usability or anything whatsoever. Literally every review I've watched on KZbin mentions this. The midnight is a beautiful color similar to the black MacBooks of old and I think is the best looking of the bunch. Again thanks for the review and the heads on the base storage. I'll place a new order and return this one soon

I've been using base model m2 MBA for about 4 months. This is my first Mac and i like it so much..!. As an office worker, this Mac is perfect for me because: 1. performance is insane for regular office things like excel, word, ppt, etc. 2. so light. I always bring it in my backpag everyday to go office using train. I barely feel the weight! 3. the design so simple but so nice! 4. the best thing: battery life is insane!. I can hit full day work easily, i never bring my charger to office! only on flaw: storage for base model only 256GB, upgrading to 512GB is pretty expensive. OVERALL, this mac is perfect for office worker like me!

I have the base model and went with the midnight too. I have issues with the anodization chipping from under my solo band apple watch. It literally can't hold up to silicon rubbing on it. Also the area where the screes rubber gasket rubs it will fade quickly too. I had my air 5 weeks before the issues started showing up. Apple called it regular wear and tear and would not even let me pay for the case to be repaired via AppleCare, if have to pay completely out of pocket for it. DO NOT get the midnight color despite how nice it looks.

My only favourite feature on the M2 macbook air is the performance itself. For me, I will go for the M1 version as what I see the M1 still performs well and also I only edit light video clips straight from my iPhone. I heard the M2 version has a lot of issues such as the ssd speed where the 256gb version is almost significantly slower than 512gb version.

Actually no, no issues at all. You don’t notice the ssd speed in real life use. It is the snappiest Mac out there because of the fastest single core. Concerning temperatures, it remains ice cold, doesn’t even get warm. ( I don’t game or edit video)

I would upgrade the memory to 16gb before bringing it home. Unlike RAM or memory, the 256gb storage can be extended over time with external SSDs or HDs. The single NAND 256gb is good enough for MacOS and its full blown built-in apps. No need to install 3rd party apps that will just clutter and bloat the device.

HI Anmol, sorry that I am a bit late with answering. A good question. I would not do it for two reasons as the protector adds more weight which in the long run might impact the hinges; there are also report of cracks on the screen because of the protectors. What is useful is a very good sleeve to protect your overall device.

be mindful of getting involved with apple. they will try to squeeze every cent out of you. Lemme explain : since 2016 they've been soldering the SSDs onto the mac motherboards making it impossible to repair by replacing or to upgrade. - they also overcharge 3x-4x per TeraByte of space : Apple 2TB SSD ---> 600-800$ (non replaceable) while Samsung 2TB 980PRO : 200$ :))) - When the SSD Fails.. and it will , they will also overcharge you for the repair , because guess what, if you need it replaced , the way they go about it is by replacing the whole motherboard which is an absolutely wasteful way to do it. Imagine replacing so many parts when you could've just replaced the SSD. But they want YOUR MONEY. - Iphone 14PRO (1000$-1600$) still comes with a shit lightning port (USB2.0) Speeds. (Guess how much money they make by licensing that dumb connector to 3rd parties that make cables and adapters and all that. (it was a good connector in 2013-2014 but USB-C came out in 2014. and it's 2022 and Apple still has (SHIT) lightning connector. May meteors fall on their HQ if they don't change their money hungry ways. May God save the worthy over there. be very careful getting involved with the Apple Prostitute. They are out to get every last drop of your money. :)

A common issue with Macbooks and it is no different on the Macbook Air M2 is the problem of the keyboard always touching the screen when closed. This leaves marks on the screen which are generally finger oils on the keyboard but worse is when it actually puts small dints in the screen. I have had several Macbooks and this always happens. So I’m not convinced by the build quality statements.

8 GB of RAM may be fine for now, but I don't see it working out too well 2 years into the future. Just to load macOS Monterey requires 3.53 GB of RAM. I don't think 8 GB will be enough looking forward after Ventura or the next release of macOS. I have 16 GB of memory in my M1 MacBook Air and it never hits the swap file and upgrading to 16 GB of RAM costs the same as the base price for the M2 Air. I don't see much value in the M2 Air when the M1 Air is just as capable. (And even though the M2 Air is 18% faster in single core application, you aren't going to notice the difference in day-to-day use compared to the M1 MacBook Air).

Technically speaking 8 GB wasn't "enough" 5 years ago, it isn't now, and nothing is going to change in 2 years. That being said, these days swap with Apple Silicon can be a pretty good RAM replacement in many (not all) cases. I went from 16 GB 2011 Intel Macbook Pro to 8GB M1 and it's a night and day difference despite having to use massive amounts of swap on the Air. It's going to struggle when an app actually needs to process large amounts of data and it tries to load all of it in RAM, but in most use cases that's not a thing. Just loading an old forgotten app or a browser tab off an ssd swap you barely notice any delay.

One major feature that the M2 MacBook Air has that the previous M1 MacBook Air lacks: a newer, higher-resolution (1080p) built-in webcam. In this age of COVID and work-from-home, this can actually be a significant selling feature for the newer M2 design over the previous generation. Your review did not make significant note of this.

Hi, great name btw, according to Apple the difference is 18%, but in my experience the difference is minimal. So depending on your needs, and definitely when you go for a base model, the M1 chip will be more than fine
