The 16” comes with a couple of bonuses: the display is larger, you will get more of that beautiful mini led display, the bezels look slimmer due to the ratios, the notch looks smaller for the same reason. The 16” gets a larger trackpad which is more convenient to use and the speakers are better giving richer sound. As far as battery life the 16” gets three hours more in terms of web browsing, and also gets a more powerful 140 watt power supply.

Try making the temp higher and use the slicer thing to swipe off the excess and also pre heat the espresso before putting the holder in place! I have the same model under a different brand in the UK. Also get good beans! I got the 16 inch model.

I got a 14 first and then watched reviews which led me to get the 16 . I had such a buyer's remorse after that and exchanged back to 14 . I honestly think 14 is just a perfect size . At home I anyways dock the MacBook so 16 inch is still small for my workflow . 14 inch is just perfect ,cute and beautiful machine . Love it

Hi David, Your presentation is awesome. Got to love your daily routine (coffee and sandwiches) plus your studio is so well equipped. I'd owned and rather haul my MBP16" to any coffee shop and get things done as ease (editing videos, emailing, writing scrips, viewing spreadsheets, news) without tiring my eyes out. The 14" seemed to be right at first, but then after 3+ hours, my eyes just can't take it anymore. Take care and eating well.

Great video I love the fact that you included some different results like charging and drainage times that were a lot different than most KZbinrs. I have been sitting on the fence with a decision of the 14 versus 16 both specked the same with the 10 core CPU 16 core GPU and 1 TB of storage. I do not usually use my computer with an external monitor so I am leaning towards the bigger screen as there is no question that it does increase productivity somewhat and additionally for media consumption having that bigger screen with the better speakers is amazing. I am just wondering if the portability of the smaller one may have me using my laptop more often as I will be more inclined to take it everywhere as opposed to using my iPad in certain circumstances instead.

What I miss in alot of comparison video's, is the portability inside your own house. How does getting a 16" on your lap on the sofa for a few hours feel. How does it feel to work hours on a 14" screen in comparison to a 16" when you are not working all the time at home/office without monitors. So David, can you shed some light about the experience on using the laptop as a laptop instead of a desktop and how that felt (14 vs 16")? Thanks and good video! :)

Thanks, David, for another great real-world test. First, a big shout out to your father for the perfect gift for a coffee guy. I will agree with Ian, you need a coffee or coffee machine sponsor. Second, a big shout out to Littleneck Outpost, the sandwich looked incredible, my mouth was watering. This is a creator's laptop, no question about it. This video must have taken quite a while to film with all the testing, number-crunching between Pro 14 and Pro 16. If I had to buy, just max out with the 16. The outtakes were so good, the life of a KZbin Content Creator, you gotta love it. Shout out to the guys at the start of the video. Take Care.

Fantastic review and choose the 16”. Couldn’t decide on portability Vs screen size. Working from home, it would be a desktop replacement with occasional travel. I already own IPad Air 10” for light travel ie. emails and entertainment consumption. I wanted the 14”, but replacing my desktop and overlapping with my IPad;larger screen was the deciding reason.

oh god, the end part is 😂 stuff happens when you're not expecting it to happen especially when filming. Anyway, am really on portability when it comes to outdoor stuff but when the devices are just for home uses then am prefer the performance. When it comes to Macbook, I rather go to 14-inch and just bump up the specs and I don't want people to see that I have something expensive in my backpack. Thanks for the informative video about Macbooks today, David. 👊🏼

First things first😂. Assuming your beans are quality, a good pull is mostly influenced by your tamp and your grind. The goal is to create the right amount of resistance for proper extraction. I'm sure there are yt videos galore out there that will explain it better than I can trying to type it out here. Also, an open bottom portafilter is super helpful in visually verifying the shot. It helps speed up the adjustment process because you can see how it's extracting (evenness and proper color for the different phases of the shot). Someone probably sells them for that machine, I made my own by drilling out the bottom of mine with a circular bit. Again I'll bet yt has a video on someone doing it for your machine that will tell you what size bit to get. Now on to the topic at hand. Great video and thank you for doing it. I'm wondering if you use NR in your renders and if so does that bog down the render times considerably? Here is my situation; Currently editing on a 13" mbp 1.4ghz i5 processor in davinci. I do the usual color corrections, usually add some effects, and use NR around 22 temporal and 4-5 spatial. My videos are around 40 min to 1 hr in length and my render times are usually between 6 and 14 hours long. If I don't apply noise reduction the renders are around 4 - 6 hrs long. I'm looking to upgrade because these render times are killing me. My final product needs to have noise reduction because I shoot in low light and get a lot of dancing pixels that are distracting. So I'm wondering if you have any idea what kind of improvements I might see with an upgrade? Right now I have my eye on the 16" because I like the idea of more screen real-estate and my eyes aren't getting any younger. Thanks again for the comparison!

For me, my laptop is my personal computer. It doesn't leave my house, I don't have a monitor to use it with, I don't use it for work, I use it on a laptop tray on my lap on the sofa, and sometimes on a desk. For me, 14 inch is a touch too small to comfortably watch media for hours and for working on my personal files and emails and documents and social media all at once. It's fine, but 16 is just so much easier to see and feels spacious and comfortable to the eye. The weight is not an issue for me, as I'm never carrying it. The slightly extra battery life and slightly better performance is nice too. 14 may be the sweet spot for other uses, but for how I use it, it's a little too small. 15 inch or 16 inch are better for my use case.

Excellent - thanks for validating my decision of several years ago - had a 15" and replaced with a 13" which has done well but now struggles with day-to-day life, so is up for renewal this year. Now I've heard they might be producing a MBP Lite, so waiting to hear a bit more about that. Deffo 14" next time - "if it's good enough for the Cogen....." as always, that's fine by me.

I don't know wich to choose yet hahaha. I have a 15' 2015 mbp but got too much problems with power cable, i replaced the dc port and the cable 2 months ago, now is burnt again. I am mobile developer and got used to larger screen sizes because I use emulators and stuff. Actually don't know if 14' is enough but seems to be like the same in performance. Another thing is, here where I live, apple products usually costs +20~40% more of the real price than in the USA and the 16' seems to be cheaper if I compare them at scale. Tough decision here! hahaha.

For serious pro work, 16" is a no brainer. It goes through the tasks like a workhorse, 14" is kind of a gimmick compared to 16". It works ok until it get's warm then all system fails. As a professional photographer I have opportunity if not a requirement to have both. 14" is a basic (M1,16gb ram) model, 16" is maxed up (m1max,64gb ram,gpu32c)... I got 16" 3 months after 14", and for sure I did a real life comparison. As photographer I use medium format camera, as well as full frame, so all files are huge. I use Lightroom, Capture one and Photoshop software, many times interlinked... To be brief, all the tools that serious pro uses, and I do hdrs, panoramas etc.. So there's no room to hide for the hardware. So after 4 months onward, this are my findings: 14" (16gb ram, basic graphic, 1tb) ok for a very basic tasks, it's great actually if you keep it simple and not load up very demanding projects. If you keep the quantity low, few 10 files for edit, export, retouch, etc... it shines out any intel based laptops immediately. It doesn't lag, all is smooth and it is on pair with maxed out 16". I love the size, bam you throw it in the photobag and you're off. Love it! BUT: as soon as bigger project come, with hundreds, thousands of shots, among which there are panoramas, hdrs, 1:1 previews etc..lots of 100% views of 100mp files, things fall back immensely. I say immensely to be compared to Intel laptops, if not even worse. With heavy load, Lightroom starts to lag so much, that at times it is impossible to work, every click on a brush takes few seconds of a "wheel time", which makes you wanna throw the laptop at the wall :). Don't but it is hideous. Therefore, for a quick jobs in-out, great. For a serious workstation, nope nope and nope. Gimmick! 16" (64gb ram, 32c gpu, 2tb) throw at it whatever you want, it goes through like a knife thru butter. I think that's not just the maxed out spec, but just the size. Cramping all the spec into 14" has to come with some tradeoffs. I can't even imagine what would happen if I'd get maxed out 14". It would fry, I guess. LR export: 46 edited files at 100mp to resized JPG= 14" needed 31 seconds more 187 edited files at 100mp to resized JPG= 16" (7:22min) / 14" (15.24min) ...14" slowed down after 4 minutes drastically. Which might be due to the heat that kicked in and slowed down everything. ...now imagine you are working on something else while exporting on 14". Of course on other occasions I did, and it only slows down the export even more. Don't even think of using other heavy duty software when process power slows down, you are in for a chain reaction when all just becomes a dream where you try to run but you can't. So if you are in for a serious work, needing a workstation; 16" is the only way, don't be mislead by reviewers who in most cases are not professionals in video/photo world.

Em tbh sounds like a RAM limitation that's causing the slowdown. Those 100mb photos in lightroom use a TON of RAM and swap has it's limits so it's overloading the system. I don't know if you could say it's a difference between the 16 vs 14 size as you can get higher configs for the 14 as well. Would be interesting to see the RAM usage in both cases

Depends on your profession. As developer, 14" is just as good as 16" because we usually use our apps in full screen mode anyway. When you say "serious pro work" and it turns our you're a photographer, obviously 16" is better. But for most professional people , that is not the case.

@@LarsRyeJeppesen what I meant obviously with “serious” (apologies if I wasn’t clear) work is to stress computer to maximum resources. 14” will heat up and performance will drop to 50%. If you’re just doing work where you don’t tire the system, then for sure its fine.

i also see a fellow kettle and ode grinder lol. but for the big question, for such a significant purchase I might go for the lower end 16. the weight/size difference definitely can be offset by the battery it has.

Real world? So far, I've noticed that the Trello desktop app doesn't work very well, and Safari's inspector constantly freezes. Other than that, it's a really good computer! Scrolling is super smooth, and as much as I hate to say it, it makes me disappointed in my OTHER i7 macbook pro, (my personal computer), which isn't usually as smooth. Once you move a step up, it's hard to go back, to say the least.

I will buy a 16’ Mac Book Pro, with 32 Core GPU, 64 GB of RAM, and a 4TB SSD. I have been using a 17’ Mac Book Pro, with 16GB of RAM, 2 TB SSD (originally with a 750GB HDD), and I had continual Graphics Card issues, which I had to have “repaired” four different times! Apple deserted their Customers who bought their Top-of-the-Line iMacs and Mac Book Pros, knowing that their Graphics Cards were defective, and I will get a nearly Maxxed-out Mac this time, since it can’t be upgraded, and Apple is lucky that I prefer Mac OS and their Industrial design. Apple really doesn’t deserve my business again, they have made a blazing fast M1-based Super Line of Macs, but I am furious about how Customers have been treated, and I am a Stockholder, so I appreciate the growth of the company, but despise the treatment of Customers, Assemblers, and Employees. They finally restored MOST of the Ports and MagSafe!

OMG thank you Apple for making a laptop where you show off your true innovation by adding ports other laptops have had (including this one) for over a decade. It’s nice to know you’re the leader in taking things away only to be praised for bringing it back. You’re like that friend that demands a thank you for returning that $50 he borrowed from you three years ago.

I have the 16" for a little over a week and have been comparing it to my 15" 2016 MBP. Screen is starting to go, battery lasts like 4 hours maybe, only 256gb ssd, i7 6th gen. Yeah. But for all of that, it still rocks. Takes a DaVinci 10 minute 4k piece and rips it in 12 to 15 minutes. Which makes me kind of upset when I can do the same rip in 2/3's of that time on the M1 Pro. I am having a hard time feeling completely content about the $2500 I blew on this thing? Yeah, it looks better. The battery is beast. The sound is better. But, $2500? Really? Ugh.
@kninezbanks
@kninezbanks 2 жыл бұрын
You bought the wrong model....You said you blew $2500 on it...Which means you got the base 16" with the M1 Pro and a 16 core gpu......The M1 Max has twice (double) the video encoders/decoders than the M1 Pro......If you got the M1 max with a 32 Core GPU, the rendering speed would have increased significantly. At the video @ 13:00 you can see the same 4K project rendering speed between the (14 Core) M1 Pro vs (32 Core) M1 max, 15:34 mins vs 8:39 mins....That about 80% faster rendering speed....Some of that is the CPU difference, but most is the GPU. You said your older 15" macbook takes 12 to 15 minutes on a 10 minute 4k project in resolve, that your new $2500 16" macbook does it in "only" 2/3's of the time".....so about 67% of time....If you reduce that time by 80%.....67/1.8 = 37% of time time. Again this is between the 14 core M1 Pro and the 32 Core M1 Max.....The 16 Core M1 Pro is only marginally faster than the 14 Core M1 Pro in video rendering in resolve. Maybe 10% faster......All in all you are looking at at least a 60 to 75% faster speed. Anyway, If you wanted the fastest rendering speeds, you should have at least gotten the 32GB, 24 Core M1 Max 16" Model for $3100......which still has twice the memory and twice the video encoders/decoders of the base $2500 M1 Pro. Or an additional $200 so $3300 with 1TB of RAM.......or just splurge $3500 for the 32 Core M1 Max with 32GB Memory and 1TB Storage. This is a device you will use for 5 to 8 years. The extra money and time saved is a worthwhile investment. Like you said, the screen of your old macbook was starting to go after 6 years of use....devices need to be upgraded from time to time. You get better performance, better keyboard, better webcam, better microphones, better speakers, much better display, much better battery life, etc. Hope you enjoy your laptop......I personally prefer to wait for the 2nd gen, so they can correct most of the mistakes from the first gen....better optimization, more apple silicon native apps, native apple silicon games, face id etc.

@@kninezbanks Excellent analysis of the situation. My issue was budget. I just didn't have the extra cash for the better machine. Nor would I for the M2 either I suspect. I do enjoy the new MBP. Don't get me wrong. But, I am still looking at my old guy, seeing it still kick some a$$ and thinking, old Apple devices rock did I really need to do this? The answer is, yes for the sake of the future. Apple will drop my 1707 in the next OS rev more than likely. And that is the end of that. . . Anyway, thanks for the excellent thoughts. Couldn't agree more if it weren't for the cash.

According to the incessant gossip, there’s going to be a more, better, plus good, MacBook Pro released by Apple in the immediate coming soon. The M2 and 3 and 4 are imminent… So according to the Apple rumor gurus, one should remain in a perpetual state of wait for the new one, as they pump out their opinions on what you should’ve bought last month and how it compares to what will be available next Apple event. There is a whole industry built on Apple divination and hype and they’ve been pumping out guesses for 25 years!
