Or surrounding herself with Elitists in Harvard. Though, I suppose one guess to have here, is that she got lucky to go to Harvard and was outcaste for it. That literally her university life was absolute hell cause she was the black sheep among the social elite that did not belong among their social standing. So her university degree was literally all she had to rely on and clung to it out of self-defense measures. Which in turn turned her into an ego-maniac because she made it her entire identity with nothing else of equal value to show for it.

I’ve worked with apprenticeships for years so I’m a big believer that traditional academics aren’t for everyone. Whether it’s because their career path doesn’t need regular school and then university, or because the individual isn’t suited to that option so the person goes straight into work or into an apprenticeship, each option is equally valid. Are the rules different in the USA? Here (1) you get wedding presents at the wedding or reception. That's why they are called *wedding* presents, not engagement presents. (2) There is no obligation on *anybody* to provide a wedding present. (3) Wedding presents are traditionally household items like a set of good kitchen knives, a crock pot, maybe some nice sheets, something that will be put to use almost at once. Something you can easily afford. Something you make yourself, like my mother's hand-made bedspreads, is particularly appropriate. In the first couple of minutes the SIL-to-be seems crazed with entitlement.
