Because this story is from Apple, Apple is from Japan and the Japanese don't have the cohones to call the police on family. OP and her husband did what Japanese do when family misbehaves; they ran. Pulled up stakes and disappeared. Happens all the time. I knew a woman whose mother in law was abusing her; her husband couldn't say boo to his mother so he got his job to transfer him to another city and he, his wife and children fled. Heard of a woman whose husband was beating her and she never called the police once; one day he goes off to work and she just disappeared. Packed up her stuff, the kids and the family dog and left the house. There are even companies in Japan that will help you disappear. Japan has plenty of laws guaranteeing property rights. But what use are laws granting your right to hold onto your property if you won't use them?
