The one big issue for buying a lot of SSD storage is that some tools will not work with external connected drives. For instance I have a very large Microsoft One Drive for business. One Drive does not work with external drives. Dropbox and many others do, but not good old Microsoft. That dictates a large SSD for me. Combined with the inconvenience of having an external drive for lots of video to lug around. Everything else you provided was good advice but SSD size has to be carefully considered. Yep Apple is charging too much.. but that is the way it is.

Very sound advice. I hit the wall in a couple of apps with the M1 Pro and was ready to upgrade. I passed on the M2 and M3 versions. The M4 is a definite upgrade. I also went for the unbined version and upped the memory to 48g while I was at it. Something tells me that AI will be a big memory Hog as these apps develop and evolve. Far cheaper than the M4 Max and best bang for my buck. I will upgrade to the M4 studio whenever they come out from my M1 studio.

I would agree with you for the most part if Apple was releasing a significant upgrade like the jump of a new chip such as intel to silicon, however, this is the 4th generation of these chips, and the rest of the machine is relatively consistent overall compared to the last few years across macbook pros, macbook airs and ipads. In addition to this, I believe Apple have a 14 day return/refund policy and consumer law (at least in AU), so overall, there is minimal risk on the consumer side.

M1 and M2 machines are way overvalued (at least in UK/EU). We're talking 3 to 4-year-old machines with mileage to match, soldered-on storage and hard-to-replace battery. Scrapping all 8GB models obviously, as they were meant to be the e-waste they are, those that were upgraded to 16-32GB or RAM are hard to come by, and they tend to cost 65% of the new M4 models. Example: street price for an M1 Pro 14-inch with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD is £1500, its new equivalent is £2500. In other words, you lose 3 years of useful life (probably its best life too) for a 35% discount. The right price for used M1 macs now should be £400 for base M1 and £600-700 at most for Pros. We're nearly a grand out of whack. Sadly, the fact that new PC laptops are also overpriced sh*t doesn't help.

I purchased the M3 Pro MAX 48Gb upon release last year and that was a mistake. I needed more RAM but wanted it immediately. If you want to run LLMs with 70+ billion parameter LLMs, then you really need the 128 GB RAM. For that reason, I am purchasing the M4 Pro MAX 128 Gb with delivery expected 11/22.

Still on a M1 Max, I upgraded and future proofed It and it literally works so well I don't need to upgrade. I am def gonna hold out for the M5 before deciding to upgrade.. as much as I want the black color way.

Question: for me the most important thing is an absolut quiet MacBook (Music production). You were mentioning, that the 16 inch MacBook has bigger fans. Do you expect, that a 16 inch MacBook Pro with the pro chip (not the Max chip) would be cooler and quieter due to the bigger fans than a 14 inch MacBook?

Hey! Great job with this. Felt like you were talking to me lol... I think I'm the 16" M4 Pro guy. Making money editing, but not huge productions. Coming from an OG M1 13", so I feel like this'll be a great move. I do have to use some AI tools (mRotoAI, Topaz, etc) so I'm hoping to get something that won't get in my way, but won't murder my finances. Cheers!

Before watching your video I'm thinking of getting a MacBook Pro with an M4 pro chip (base variant)....and now I'm thinking of upgrading the M4 pro chip to (14-core CPU/20-core GPU) But my question is I will not be upgrading the SSD from 512GB to 1TB will it be a hindrance to its performance capabilities Note : - I don't know my workload I just need a device that can do anything that I throw at it. I'm new to Apple/Mac devices this is going to be my very first Apple/Mac device or product

If you need the storage, turn your old machine into a file server. Install Turnkey File Server or something, and take advantage of very cheap SSD pricing
@TeodorPetrovic717 күн бұрын
I ordered it with M4 Pro Chip base variant. The problem is that once you upgrade to higher tier, you'll start thinking of the next tier. Don't overthink it. You probably won't notice the difference at all. For that money, you can buy some Mac accessories.

@@TeodorPetrovic7 Same here.. Exactly what im going through. I got the m4 pro chip base varient too and seeing everyone say to get the "upgraded" one... But im mainly using it for pen testing/coding/ having a few VM's so i dont really need the extra gpu cores

I’m more patient. I will wait for your testing. Also don’t forget the security vulnerability built into the hardware. I am very excited about all of the new generation laptops. If I’m going for Windows I’m waiting for Windows 12 late next year. I would want my full ten years of support.

I am currently on my new base model M4 MacBook Pro. So far, I have been able to play war thunder with 0 lag, run code faster than my old intel processor and much more. Apple doesn't disappoint. I will probably upgrade my storage since I was in a rush when I pre-ordered mine.

Great advice in this video. I have the 14 in base 1TB model in space black. My first Mac. Occasional light video editing, managing my digital music collection, the photos and videos in iCloud, web browsing, email and a little messaging. From what I've seen the Apple ecosystem with the MacBook looks amazing.

Appreciate the video! Will you guys be doing a video down the road on Apple Intelligence tools? I'd personally love to see one done especially when Apple mentioned that the writing tools for example works one most apps and not all so it'd be nice to know what certain A.I. tools work on or dont.

Based on what I saw so far, M4 would fit 99% of users and pros, M4 Max would aim more specific niche who needs high demanding CPU or GPU calculations and M4 PRO would be kinda "The sweet spot for both worlds". M4 Ultra would be really redundant and waste of money.

Great Video. I currently have a 16" M3 Max, 40 core, 64 Ram, 4TB. I want the nano screen technology so going to upgrade. I was considering downgrading to a 16" M4 Pro, 20 core, 48 Ram, 4 TB. I'm not a high end complex computer user, but I hate the dreaded spinning ball. Never had that once with my M3 Max, but I don't use a fraction of it's capable power daily. Thoughts? Go to a M4 Max or M4 Pro . Not worried about the CPU on M4 Pro, more worried about max 48GB Ram, and 20 core GPU. Thank you

I have a 2015 (Intel) 15" MBP that's having problems. The battery (its second) is way up on its cycles and way down on capacity. Besides that, the battery has swollen and warped the case. Trackpad has been acting up and shuts down occasionally. Time for a new one. Your video has helped me decide: MBP M4 Pro 1 TB 14 Core CPU/20 Core GPU; 24 GB RAM

It's a contradiction to say you don't need the M4 Pro but then proceed to list all the limits of the M4 Base. The real question is, do you need the "base" (14-Core) M4 Max with 32 GB of RAM, or is the M4 Pro with 48 GB the way to go for $400 less? That will be a popular question, so "Thanks!" in advance!

M4 Pro is sadly limited to 48GB on the Macbook pro, where as on the macmini, it does support 64GB... if you need the memory, you have to buy an M4 Max, and you are obliged to take the larger SSD and extra GPU's Damn apple ! And... why no 10Gbs ethernet on the mini? I have 10Gbs from my swiss ISP, but the ethernet port on the mini can't cope with it.

Thank you Max for that tip on getting the 16" Pro Max option instead of the 14" if the _true_ performance is expected. I was actually contemplating between the Pro with 14/20 and the Max with 14/32, but I was thinking 14" because of the portability. Now I believe I'll settle for the Pro with 48GTB Unified Memory, 1TB SSD. Cheers!

Hi - great video, thanks for the detail. I've just subscribed. I have a question. I'd like a 16", purely because I prefer a bigger screen. I definitely don't need the Max. I think Pro is correct.
