Apple River stabbing trial: Friend of victim testifies

Landon Weyer, friend of victim Isaac Schuman, took the stand in the Apple River stabbing trial today.
The trial of Nicolae Miu, the man accused of the deadly stabbing on the Apple River in 2022, continues Tuesday with witness testimony, a day after a graphic video was shown in court of the deadly fight on the Wisconsin river.

This whole situation was avoidable. Alcohol never helps … yes, the teenagers were provoking it initially by name-calling … but when he grabbed those inner tubes that changed everything because they were not able to leave, and if it were me, I would not leave my innertube . Maybe he could have stabbed their tubes instead of stabbing them. They would’ve got the message across and he would not be going to prison for life. I don’t know how else to look at this except it’s just a horrific disaster all around for everyone.

I don’t understand how people think running up and touching someone’s property is justified. Hitting someone is justified. Stabbing multiple people is justified in this situation? No one was acting right. Alcohol and a group of teenagers was involved. If I was being talked to that way and recorded I would have felt extremely uncomfortable and angry. So, *on the stand,* he changes his testimony 3 seconds later! These kids are ultimately to blame for everything. That’s what I said too! He needed his butt handed better when he was younger. I have no sympathy for ppl like him. It’s sad because like someone said up there, there was nothing positive from this situation, no hero no nothing. If the girl could just have kept to herself and these kids I mean seriously if they act like that with a stranger, what can anyone else expect? These times are horrible tho, I don’t ever recall having such horrible stories or memories with other people from when I was younger. We respected elderly or just anyone who wasn’t around our age! Then proceeded to stab 5 people killing one of them. BTW This kid was 17 at the time. Man is wrong from the get go. Isn't it interesting that he became less scared when the "adult" "girls and boys" came running over to help them harass a 51 year old man whom they did not know and who was only enjoying his day at the river until they decided to bully him. I think what he meant to say was that he and his drinking buddies were taunting, bullying and videotaping that lone older man and they were only emboldened in their harassment of him when another group of young people ran over to assist.

Were any of the kids charged with underage drinking? Disorderly conduct? Who bought the beer, the father who was with the teens? This really appears to be an alcohol induced bullying of an older man who did not draw a weapon until he was pushed, slapped, hit multiple times and taunted with names that were nothing short of horrid. I hate that Isaac died and the other kids were hurt but maybe they shouldn't have done the horrible things to bring it to that point of confrontation. They are bullies. They are also being proved to be liars.

This trial is the perfect reason why the memories of humans should NOT be the only or strongest evidence in any case! Our memories are flawed and influenced by so many things that they can't be trusted! Without the video, this man would be guilty with no questions. It's really terrible on both sides, but their drunken memories are not reliable!

Imagine the parents of these underage teens, all failed their children. Every one of these kids were intoxicated, haggling every single person they went by they were verbally assaulting. They all have sat on the stand and lied, as if they tried to get their story together before going in the court room & it shows. Disgraceful young men that learned a valuable lesson that day at the expense of a friends death.
