I think the thing that will damn him, regardless of whether it was self defense or not, is that he left the scene and tried to pretend that he didn't know what happened. I think he floated on down the river hoping that he could just leave it all behind and that it would go away.

This incompetent prosecutor should show Miu's defense in the video @2:31 Miu takes out HIS knife. @2:35 Miu is smiling just 10th of a second before he stabs 17 year old Isaac cutting though two ribs and cutting Isaac's heart. Gutted AJ like a fish. AJ's heart stopped twice once for 9 minutes. The girl had to have surgery repairing her diaphragm. And two others were stabbed. This isn't self defense it is overkill.

What would you have done in Miu’s situation that day??? One, your minding your grown business, 2, you’re asked “what are you doing” 3, all of a sudden you’re accused of looking for little girls around a bunch of boys. 4, then the drunken “underage might I add” group of boys start ranting “he’s a raper” he’s a pedophile. Then here comes another group. That jumps in this grown man’s face and starts cursing him, putting their hands in his face, putting their hands on him, taunting him, laughing at him, agging the whole situation up until the guy takes his blade out and starts to defend himself against the mob of underage drinkers. End of story those youngsters will have to live with the fact that they should have left this man alone, and let him mind his own business that he was doing from the very beginning. A mixture of alcohol and marijuana will end any party.!!! I’m so sorry for the loss of the young man’s life and the injuries others suffered. But someone started this fight, I say it definitely was the boys!!!

Sober that kid could have been a peaceful fine young man, but drunk, evidence on video proves he is impulsive and dangerous. No amount of baby pictures would convince a reasonable person of that, and that level of intoxication implies this 17 year old most likely drinks frequently to have that kind of tolerance. @@sA-ny2jl It's because the victim's character is irrelevant in the case. The case is AGAINST Miu. The point of the trial is for the DA to prove that he DID NOT act in self defense. He didn't disguise himself, he was wearing the exact same thing when he was arrested that he was wearing when he arrived at the river and throughout the day. He didn't try to flee the scene through the woods or rush away immediately after the incident. He didn't hurl his knife into the woods or bury it under a rock at the bottom of the river somewhere. If he wasn't in shock, his actions are very strange for someone who's trying to get away with murder. And what's his motive for suddenly becoming a cold blooded teen killer at the age of 50 after never having committed a crime and having no violent history? Miu made poor choices that I'm sure he wishes he could redo but to me, he was acting in self defense and the video proves it. 13 against one old man with a heart condition. When you call someone a predator and pedophile, that means you believe they deserve to die. And clearly, Miu felt that that mob surrounding him intended to kill him, especially when they began beating him from all sides.

Yes, that's his wife. What the prosecution did by asking Ernesto's wife about her not speaking Spanish is to preemptively take away the defense's ability to argue that Ernesto didn't understand what he was being asked or what he was communicating when he was questioned at the river bank. Very smart to ask his wife about her own language skills. Ernesto destroyed his own credibility at the river bank, just like his friend did. Can't blame language skills for that.

Look at the video they tried to create, you see the suspect sitting in the tube with his jacket already on while he's still in the water that doesn't make any sense. Why would he already have his jacket and hat and glasses on while he's still in the tube floating down the river. And you see the Mexican ladies trying to record someone on the River Bank saying that's him that's him. They were trying to help him get away and record someone else to try to make it seem like someone else did it which makes them guilty with conspiring to help a suspect getaway. And I'm sure this is why they all try to claim that they didn't know what happened or didn't see anything happen because if they would admit it, they probably would have gotten charged . But I think the video they made speaks volumes it shows they were trying to help him leave the scene and put the blame on somebody else. They should be charged all of them

@@debbies6494 It sounds like you haven't watched the whole video. In the video we see Nic (the older guy) rushing the teens and grabbing onto their tubes and perhaps legs... that's physical escalation #1. Then (not on video) multiple witnesses claim he struck a woman, and you can hear the teens reaction to it... that's physical escalation #2. He also steps in front of their tubes at one point to suggest blocking their movement. Also, at no time does he just try to, you know, BE AN ADULT and talk to the teens to settle them down. So from the video and multiple eyewitness accounts, it seems that Nic initiated a chaos sequence that led to him stabbing 5 people and killing 1. No adult should be justifying his behavior. This doesn't mean the kids were saints, but no good person is going to go on a stabbing spree over some mean words.
@HexJK
@HexJK 8 ай бұрын
@@debbies6494 It could have been self defense had he made any effort to leave. However, his claim to "fear for his life" goes out the window because he kept walking back to the group, and the fact that he discreetly pulled the knife out (seen in the video) but continued to walk around among the group (while armed) also proves the stabbings were premeditated, and that he was waiting to act out "self defense". He's most definitely getting life in prison. The main reason this trial is so "complicated" is because he lied so much, and his friends are giving conflicting testimonies.

I was talking to my Uncle - he is a retired Federal Judge & he said Miu is probably going to jail. The Lawyers in this case on both sides are not doing their clients any favors - incompetent! While the "kids" were reckless, irresponsible & bullying Miu - he should have walked away, but instead, he engaged with them further - he made the mistake of smacking the girl physically, then stabbing her, then continued to engage with them. That first engagement was on a physical level while the kids were verbal in the beginning. They physically engaged after the girl was smacked, then stabbed. Then all hell broke out. Both sides are guilty of their respective hideous behavior, but what was the reason for stabbing the girl in the first place? His getting his clothes back on, tossing the knife, no real communication with his group afterwards & then they just keep going without helping the injured appears like he is hiding what he did, then his response in the patrol car was bizarre, so self defense looks shakey. It really is a very scary & tragic situation for both sides. I understand people going after both sides, but bullying someone & aggressively stabbing & killing people are two very different things & responses. You have to be pretty aggressive to disembowel someone. It will be interesting to see how the jury interprets bullying vs stabbing, then killing. It really is very disturbing on both sides that this behavior exists in this day & time - how very sad & pathetic . . . 🧐🤬💔

At the four minute mark, this witness says Miu put his shirt on when he came back to the tubes. The defense lawyer then changes the subject ("we'll talk about that later"). We've obviously heard the defense talk about the shirt as if Miu stayed bare-chested until after they were done tubing. Clearly this wasn't true. He put it on right after the stabbings, as the video taken by Miu's group of him floating clearly shows. Terrible defense strategy to take a position not supported by the evidence, implying that Miu didn't try to alter his appearance.

People with a "character of peacefulness" don't kill 17 year old boys because they were pushed a bit and called names. For someone claiming he was beaten his injuries were incredibly light. A bruise on his butt, some scrapes, ect...but he was "jumped on by 7 people and beaten"....really? A grown man was pushed around and called bad names by a few punks and people think his stabbing 5 people, killing one, and disembowling nearly killing another is a "reasonable and justified" reaction? Remember he's already wearing his jacket and hat sunglasses when he's in the tube, that looks suspicious. I can understand him putting his jacket on and all that when he got to the car. So far, the testimony of the people in Miu's group comes across as bizarre, abnormal, and untruthful. They keep talking about still being "UP RIVER" from the incident site and not being aware that there was an emergency situation taking place. I call B.S.! I don't believe Nick was just a "Peaceful Guy". Given his actions that day, there's a high probability that Nick has a history of violence. I think there was a concerted effort by all of them, to cover-up whatever Nick said happened when he came back to the raft. Everyone else on the river that day was HIGHLY AWARE that there was suddenly a heavy police presence and multiple people stabbed! Yet, we are supposed to trust the word of this group of adults, who floated past the crime scene and did NOTHING and asked Nick NO questions? First of all, why didn't ANY of them ask Nick WHY he was supposedly looking for this lost cell phone, so far DOWN RIVER? Think about it, if you lose something you've been carrying, logically you BACK TRACE your steps where you've already been in an attempt to find the object. You DO NOT explore areas where you have NOT YET PHYSICALLY BEEN! The boy's were located FAR DOWN RIVER, in an area that Miu's group HAD NOT YET BEEN! When you consider this fact, it makes Miu's lurking and stalking around the boys highly suspicious because it's clear the lost cell phone could NOT have been in that area. So this 50 yr old man with snorkeling gear comes into the boy's personal space for what reason? Miu could've have snorkeled anywhere on the river, but he choose to lurk around the boys for an extended period of time. That is creepy as hell and given that he essentially refused to speak or verbally engage with them while doing this, makes his actions even more unsettling and threatening. The boy's instincts that Miu was a potential predator whose actions were not only antagonizing, but menacing, were 100% spot on! Miu refused to leave, despite repeatedly being told to "go away" by the boys, thus unnerving them even more. The human protective instinct increases adrenaline, so they raised their voices and yelled at him. THE WORDS THEY YELLED DO NOT MATTER, it was a NON-VIOLENT manner of attempting to get him to leave! For people who think the boys were bullying Mr. Miu, remember, they did NOT seek him out. Miu is the one who was lurking and stalking around THEM! Just consider this, IF Miu had done this to a group of teenage GIRLS, what would you consider to be acceptable words or actions by the girls, to protect themselves and try to get the creep away from them?

Because he wasn't injured or scared and then lied to the cops. That is where he really fked himself. Hopefully he keeps losing weight in prison all the way down to 0 lbs.

Kind of strange. You would think he would atleast inform his friends and wife he was attacked and had to defend himself, yet he stays quite and plays dumb with police

Her yepping and smiling irritates the hell out of me. Now her saying the wife said Nics in trouble. She is trying to divert the correct information of what happened to suit their supposed interpretation of the scene. Shes a liar.

That is not correct. Ariel went to Nick because his wife said he is in trouble. On testimony his wife said the same thing. They obviously saw a scuffle some 20 meters from them.

I must be blind but at 12:30 where is Miu? They are saying he has a knife in his hand then the lawyer says his on his tube paddling with his hand. All I see them filming is a guy standing up in the bushes with something in his hand just standing there but I don't see Miu in the river on an innertube. Am I just going blind?

The fact that nobody in Nik's gruup didn't rush over there to help tells me a lot about his friends..... They all need to be seriously looked at for at least accessory and/or other atrocities in the area

@@Piat65but if you're with a group of friends and one of your friends commits a serious crime and you know about it and you try to leave with him without saying anything or calling the cops and turning him in, they could hold you liable for being an accessory. It happens to Young African-Americans all the time. There's actually many African-American young males in prison right now for stuff that someone else did and they were just there and that's a fact. And it's because of situations like this, their friend did something and they didn't want anything to do with it and they didn't want to tell on their friend and they didn't want to tell what happened because they just didn't want to be a part of it and they still got in trouble because the way the prosecution looks at it is you're either a witness or co-defendant. And by the way they made that video trying to point out that other person on the river bank trying to act like that was a suspect speaks volume. It shows in my opinion they all conspired to try to point out somebody else and try to lead the cops in the wrong direction and make it seem like it was somebody else that did it. I don't believe them for 1 minute that they didn't know what he did how did they not know. It's not like they're away on the other side of the park. There were a few hundred feet away and saw all those people hurt and stabbed and they want to act like they don't know what happened they knew exactly what happened
