VoiceOver is how many of us blind folks use our Macs. By having it on automatically after remaining idle for users at the welcome screen, it allows newer blind users to the Mac to set up their Macs independently. It's quite revolutionary, especially for 2003. If you ever lose your sight, you can still use your Macs, even this one from 03. How neat is that?

I have a 20 inch Apple iMac in my attic. Every 6 months or so, I fire up this excellent machine. Even though it’s now 20 years old, the OS still feels fresh and new. It’s a collectable now, but could still serve as a daily driver, It even served as my son’s computer in university.

Great video. Just yesterday I was leaving my apartment to run errands and I'd be darn there was a g4 sitting by the dumpster. I happily loaded it in my car and drove away. I've always been a huge fan of this thing and the first Mac I've every touched as a young fanboy. I've always planned to get one as an art piece for my home office when I build my home. Now that I got it for free, I'm going to use it for that reason and also have some fun and mod this baby up as far as it can go. Sad that Apple has ended up where they are: stale and backed into a design corner. They've truly lost their imagination with their products, even though I still buy them. It powered right up to my non hopeful surprise. Whomever owned it before left it on os 9. I'm sure it's the 15". Haven't really gotten into the tech specs yet, I was just aweing at the striking design and sheer surprise that it booted up and cleaned it up (as it has zero flaws and is a perfect example besides the yellow keyboard). I'll just order one on eBay along with the speakers and an airport card. We Fanboys do it for bragging rights and the love of tech, not a profit or truly usability. And if you are able to figure out how to install an Intel processor and a different logicboard, let me know. I'd love to try it myself. I'm one happy guy I tell ya!!

That's so awesome you found it in a dumpster! :) You were its hero! haha. Yeah that's what I have mine doing as well (sitting as a beautiful piece of art in my home studio). :) I'll be doing another video on it in the future, so stay tuned for that.

Great review. You came up in my search because I was thinking about upgrading mine. I was wondering if a Mac mini or components could be used? Would love to have the current OS on it!
@LoveTech4U3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment 😀. I don’t think you can use Mac Mini internals mainly because Apple switched over to Intel a few years after the G4 came out and the parts are not cross compatible.
@richeyrich22033 жыл бұрын
I was thinking this! Take the mac mini internals and house it in the base, and then upgrade the panel with a same size modern led and hardwire it to the mac mini. It would not be a true conversion, but just putting the g4 house over a new mac mini and monitor. You could also keep the panel it has and wire it into the mac mini through hdmi

If you don't care about the content on it, you should be able to put the OS install disk in and then hold the "C" or the "Option" key down when you boot it up and you should be able to load a fresh copy of the OS onto it.

Love the video man! I just got my Used iMac a few days ago, I'm pretty sure it's one of the 2012 models. Any tips?
@LoveTech4U4 жыл бұрын
That’s cool! Yeah I really want to get an iMac from that timeframe as well and do a restoration video on it. Recommendation wise is it a 21 or 27 inch iMac? I know that the 2011/2012 models often had graphics card overheating / failure issues... So maybe look into upgrading that to a better card? Another thing to you can replace to bring new life back into your iMac is putting an SSD into it. So I’d definitely recommend that as an option as well. If you have the 27” version of the 2012 model you can also very easily upgrade/ add more ram through the RAM door in the back without having to take apart the computer itself.
@danielmcdonald91774 жыл бұрын
