Another one here. I do social media videos for my wife’s business. My 2020 iPad Pro has made it easy to do, and combined with Spark and Rush, it’s just insanely good for SMB’s. Granted, I could have done the same on the 2018 version, however my last iPad was an iPad Air and it was past its sell-by date. It’s definitely not worth an upgrade from the previous gen, but you’ll struggle to find a tablet anywhere near as good as the iPad Pro 2020. (Oh and combined with Lightroom and photoshop, it’s made my photography hobby seriously awesome). No longer do I need to carry a bulky laptop as my iPad does everything I want....

The iPad is perfect for digital art, procreate is amazing (im a tattoo artist.) I was inclined to buy the Samsung tablet at first cause I prefer the android ecosystem, but Procreate was the defining thing that made me choose the iPad pro, since there is no procreate for Android. no other tablets really compete, the windows surface ones just feel like laptops and so the ui isn't built for touchscreen because its just windows 10, the samsung ones just aren't as good, everything a galaxy tab can do an ipad can do better. @@trs5127 The Tab S7+ definitely rivals the ipad pro in terms of hardware but when it comes to optimized apps and connectivity with other devices the ipad blows it out of the water. Another thing that makes me wary of samsung products specifically is their update support, usually they only support devices for two or three years maximum but I guess we'll have to see if that's the case with this one. But if you only use specific apps that are optimized for the Tab S7+ and don't have a macbook or iphone to take advantage of the connectivity features then the Tab S7+ would be a fine choice.

@@MemekoASMR apparently you haven't gone deep into what the Tab S7+ is capable of. App support is the only thing I would agree on, but it won't be long until that changes as well. Samsung is single handedly pushing on developers by both, partnering with them and giving them a promising tablet that takes on the competition for real and can get more serious users than what we normally see on Android tablets. The Clip Studio Paint is one example. Connectivity. The Tab S7+ blows iPad out of the water on that. If you think otherwise, you don't even know what you're talking about. From Dex to seamless wireless casting on a big screen, to mouse and keyboard support with proper function keys, to seamless wireless connection with desktops to official Office365 support to DEX. It has the latest WiFi 6 and Bluetooth support too. Also, the original comment was made a couple of weeks before the Tab S7+ was announced. Used to find the iPad Pro unrivalled by any tablet, but not anymore. And looking at how Samsung was improving its Tab S lineup every year bringing it close to flagship specs, I was hopeful it would finally come to a point where it legit goes up against the iPad Pro.

I can sort of understand why it doesn't make sense to a "PC guy" power user. That flexibility comes at costs in each area, as versatile devices always do. And when you look at computers in terms of the hardest you can run them for a small or singular set of circumstances, the iPad's evolution is perplexing. But of course, that's not what the iPad is for. What it's for is to be more of a jack-of-all-trades companion for someone with more typical and less extreme use cases. The keyboard isn't turning it into a laptop, it's adding one more option, another place that the iPad can do a series of jobs well enough for most people. But when your focus is cores and overclocking and whatever else, that evolution just looks like indecision. TL;DR Linus and people like him are look at it from the wrong angle. So I think it's good that he actually asked for people's input, intuiting that he may not be the target audience here.

I use both my iPad Pro 12.9 2018 and my MacBook. They are each uniquely great, and they compliment each other incredibly well. If you copy something on your iPad you can instantly paste it on your macbook and vice versa. The portability, OS, and pencil support are huge for iPad. These are both fantastic for my workflow and my personal use. I’d recommend both if you can afford it.

I work for a rather popular stop motion animation studio where we have been equipping artists with iPad pros primarily for Shotgun and other company made tools. Many artists have crowded desks with sculpting tools, sewing machines, and other random supplies to make puppets and props that don't have space for a traditional laptop. Plus with the addition of an apple pencil it effectively gives every artist access to a cintiq like experience to take notes or draw in meetings.

As a structural engineer, we use iPads to take PDF drawings to site and mark them up/write reports while on site. We also use the iPad pro to connect to our Matterport LIDAR scanner for creating 3D maps of buildings that we can then import into Revit to create as-built drawings. The LIDAR scanner is interesting on the iPad and it could be quite useful. For the most part we would use the Matterport scanner but we used to use "Magic Plan" before we got the Matterport which uses AR to map out buildings. The new LIDAR scanner on the iPad means that you could theoretically walk around a building from room to room and map it out even faster then with a matterport scanner. This could be quite useful for smaller buildings or simply if you dont have the matterport scanner with you at the time. I'm excited to see where this goes. As an aside, it's quite clear that you have some bias against apple as evident in just about any review of an apple product on your website. It is alienating to anyone who actually likes apple products. As someone who has used Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android extensively, I am happy to say that all have their benefits but iOS is superior to Android in all the ways that count. There are a few nerdy, cool things you can do on Android but it really doesnt matter for every day use. I can elaborate if you like. I recently bought a Note 20 Ultra to replace my iPhone XS and after 2.5 weeks I decided to sell the Note. It's just too inconsistent and unpolished.

"What you do with it?" Let me break it down from the perspective of me as a uni student. 1. Note-taking. I need GoodNotes for writing my material in class and drawing some explanation related to my subject. I'm a science student and I prefer to draw a simple version of heart by myself rather than download heart picture then doodle it. 2. Drawing. I need Procreate for drawing, mostly for drawing bullet journal. I'm not a professional artist nor sell my drawing, but Procreate helps much. 3. Taking picture. I don't always get the first-row chair in my class. Having iPad with the great camera will help to take pictures of presentation and whiteboard. No, I don't use the camera for blogging or taking selfies. I can sit in 5th row and my whiteboard picture still looks smooth enough for annotating. 4. Scanning. I need a good camera for scanning materials. There is OCR (optical character recognition) for text recognition. It still looks good for scanning old books. 5. Online class by video call. Macbook's camera really sucks. Using iPad rear-camera while writing/typing materials are really good. 6. Annotating. Notability is not my main note-taking app but I use it to convert lecture's presentation. I choose iPad over new Macbook or other brand's tablet because I need: GoodNotes, Procreate, good cameras and Notability. Since I bought iPad, I only use my Macbook when my iPad was charging. You see, not everybody is high tech KZbinrs who needs Photoshop, Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro. Some of us use iPad for educational purpose and it really works :)

JV Lint the apps that he listed (GoodNotes, Noteablility, Procreate) are the best in their class and none of them are available on Windows 10. The cameras on the surface are pretty mediocre on the surface as well, so the problems that he listed like not getting a seat close to the board would still be a problem. As a student in a similar situation I can tell you that the surface did not work for me as well as the ipad does.

Pens feel nicer on the ipad, animations are smoother and notetaking apps are better - in fact for an artist it's pretty superior. On the surface you can run a more powerful office suite and you've got full fat professional set of tools for all sorts of things, but it's terrible as a tablet

​@@i0ixr Absolutely. No doubt, iPad Pro is the best tablet Apple has made but I agree with this review. 12.9-inch iPad Pro (Cellular / 256 Gb) costs 1409€. That is whopping 1808€ with the Magic Keyboard! Accidentally Surface Book 3 2-in-1 cost 1899€. I could also buy something like iPad Air and a proper computer. iPad Pro is an excellent device but 1808€ too much money if the customer must adapt to problems.

I’m loving the direction they’re going with the iPad. As a middle schooler who already has one, it gets more and more useful for me every year. My parents don’t want to drop more money on a MacBook for me, so the iPad is my core device. It’s just a fun device to use for getting work done. It does everything I need for school. I can use it as a tablet when I want. Or a laptop. I can draw, take notes, film and edit simple videos, and just waste my brain entertaining myself on the internet. It’s EVERYTHING I need, and more. I don’t think there’s anything to complain about.

Surface-Book: I must be a joke to you. First of all, Windows is flat out BETTER in every way possible, sure you are a kid, so you would like software that looks cuter and more kid-friendly for 9-12 y/o's and is also considered a statement/flex to have an Apple product. But I am 16 and own an iPad pro as well (as it is required in my school), and I feel Windows is way better for productivity, the only thing I can compare it to is the Surface Pro 6 (by price: www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/surface-pro-6/8zcnc665slq5?activetab=pivot:techspecstab) and that is better by spec-wise in every category, also its cheaper. I REALLY don't understand. I also am confused about the direction they are going, they are trying to compete against the MacBook air line-up or products by making an iPad with a keyboard and a mouse as a direct competitor. Both costing the same price (to make it fair I chose the highest-end iPad pro and the lowest end MacBook Air) and the Mac has a better price to performance, I don't understand. This hurts my brain.

it's somewhat mediocre support, as they say it has odd quirks when using a mouse rather than a trackpad, and the settings oddly bury things under accessibility. at no point did they say it was a bad thing to add these features - the issue they have with it is, why would most people get an ipad pro when they could just get a macbook/ultrabook?

@@GeekProdigyGuy I kind of view it the other way around - why would someone get a Macbook Air instead of an iPad Pro? With the price drop, the 2018 iPad Pro becomes a VERY attractive deal. I think if you're looking at the maxed 2020 iPad Pro then you might as well wait and heavily consider the 13" Macbook Pro (whenever that eventually gets updated like the others). If someone wants the best tablet on the market (and tablets are superior consumption devices, and more portable) then their only option is the iPad Pro anyway. If you look at the new Dell XPS 13 vs the new iPad Pro, the iPad edges out on performance, is more portable, starts cheaper, and is a better consumption device. Now when the new keyboard comes out, that will also give people the option to be more productive like you would see with the XPS.

Has it not occurred to you how vastly that will improve typing texts, notes, memos, or comments in KZbin? Its much quicker on a small bluetooth connected keyboard then finger-bashing a virtual one. On occasion, I've used a keyboard with my wife's ipad (though she never does) and paired it with my android based mobile for when I hassle with longer WhatsApp based texts and it worked great as I type both well and fast and it saved me a lot of mis-spelling and hassle. This will simply increase the options available and that is a good thing. As for our freedom to choose... Dont like it? Don't use it. 🤔😉

So, I genuinely think I’m the unicorn that you’re talking about. My full time job requires me to use an iMac, but at home I used to use a MacBook Air to do little bits and bobs. However, I recently purchased an iPad Pro as I thought the ability to illustrate and do the little bits and bobs would be perfect. And it has been. My experience has been spot on, I use a keyboard attachment that I can quickly take off or fold behind when I want to draw. When working at my office I can use it as a second screen, then move it about to take hand written notes. It has effectively replaced my MacBook Air.

@@fauxchung3189 Personally I went from the 2017 iPad 10.5 to the surface pro 7 i7 version and I haven't looked back being able to lightly game and use my hard drives easily is amazing. Like that alone has been worth it let alone being full windows and able to use any program and I love Leonardo so far it's done everything I did in procreate and more. Hope this helps. 😁

The camera on the backside of tablets has always been very strange, I just don't use it. I've got an ipad pro 12.9" and an m1 Macbook pro, and I can't see the ipad replacing my macbook. But there's one thing it can do for me: I'm using the iPad pro and the Pencil with Sidecar as a wacom cintiq replacement for photoshop and lightroom, and that's a killer feature!

I've had iPad Pro 12.9" Gen 3 for around 6 months. I also have a Surface Pro 5 (2017). While they are both good, both very different and each more suitable for certain use and scenarios. However I'm finding that I use the iPad Pro 12.9 most of the time because of several things I increasingly can't be without ; namely the 120Hz fluidity of the screen, decent battery life, the rather likeable aspect ratio that makes the 12.9" roughly comparable to size of an A4 page and many other aspects. I still maintain that both devices (iPad Pro 12.9 gen 3+ and Surface Pro 5) are uniquely special for certain things. But the sheer liquid fluidity of panning a OneNote page around on the iPad vs the stuttery/jerkyness of doing same on a Surface Pro makes that a no brainer even though OneNote on the Surface Pro does have more features (like Maths, pencil tips as well as pens and other).

This is my first iPad since the first iPad ever like 10 years ago. It´s been a week since it arrived and for now has been used with the large screen as a sheet music display, media consumption, for reading large textbooks, and for gaming. But the most important reasons for buying it were for note-taking with the Apple Pencil and as a device for visual acuity testing at my Ophthalmology clinic (this reason alone I think justifies the purchase, since a specialized projector would cost probably twice as much, and some paid iOS apps really seem promising especially given the large screen size and resolution)

In the service operations industry, iPads are used a lot to diagnose / fix very complicated systems using AR and image recognition. The general pipeline is that a machine learning model is trained to recognize a complicated bit of machinery, then the AR app can feed that 3D data into the model and circle problems or show how to open / replace parts through AR. That's the reason why the iPad included that sensor in the camera bump. They're still the world leader in AR devices - nobody matches them in devices or SDK.

@@nexaentertainment2764 Oculus (facebook) is very much focused on that, even in their statement on their new tracking technology they point out that it can be used later in augmented reality headsets and that that is their goal(i don`t remember specifically how it was worded). Apple is planning on bringing out a headset themselves and it looks like they will use lidar for tracking so its not a test run for the iphone, its a test run for the headset. Having these sensors on ipads/iphones will bring back a lot of real world testing data and developers can start making their own apps now, pretty exciting i think. Its not just a gimmick, its just a beginning i think

My main use-case for the iPad Pro is for digital drawing/painting. Nothing else comes close for portability and quality in a self-contained device for me than the iPad Pro for visual art work. My artist friends also agree there with why they pick the iPad Pros as a portable Wacom Cintiq vs. Wacom's own mobile offerings to do visual art work on the go. And times when I dont use it for that use-case, it's just blazing fast and smooth for all web browsing and reading.

I’ve been using the iPad Pro 11” for a while now, I’m an aeronautical engineering undergrad and have more back problems than a 20 y/o should really have, my decision to use this as my main “computer” device thingy comes down to a couple of factors: 1) it is incredibly light and carrying it alongside my Rocketbook in my backpack really makes my spine happy 2) it is massively over powered for what it is, as my career might suggest, assignments that require powerful equipment do happen and while some of my peers carry gaming laptops every day (ouch) these assignments are quite rare and when they do happen we use the university’s facilities, most things we do revolve around research papers and math work, so pulling up a textbook on the iPad instead of a laptop or carrying said textbooks is also very very satisfying. 3) (got mine on a deal so your mileage may vary) I don’t think there’s a device out there that for the price offers a better display and overall user experience, I do some light graphic design and working with affinity designer has been superb, this display is surprisingly colour accurate, the variable 120Hz is more than welcome and it performs as well in most scenarios as Illustrator. Why not a Mac? I am not rich and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have to scrap projects in order to afford my current iPad (building a pc for example) this right now compliments me more as a student more than a new PC does, assuming I didn’t get a deal, I’d be in the entry level MacBook tier and that for one, doesn’t make me comfortable and I still need a windows PC for the occasional Matlab or solidworks project so I kept my i7 6500U with 16GB of ram laptop, slapped in an SSD with the money I saved and I can only say that I have no regrets, also, watching any form of content on it is a remarkable experience

Yep, I have one as well, using it for note taking in college has been life changing. I do a bit of drawing from time to time, and it's just sort of an all in one device you can firmly rely on (though I am using a laptop for Mac/Windows only programs, but that's about it). And with Apple's excellent track record of multi year software update support and the incredible performance of the device, it's gonna last me a long long time. Unfortunately people here are very narrow-minded, mostly kids and man-children unsurprisingly.

I haven't read the whole thing you wrote so I might be wrong but wouldn't it be better to buy a work laptop? New ones are light as 3 pieces of a4 paper and still have enough horse power to run most demanding productivity programs.(I use blender and it works good enough). You get the add on of having a much more supported operating system and it's light, but you might lose the touch part. Plus you could intergrade it to your windows ecosystem.

And while, it's Apple so it really doesn't matter trenders gonna trend, it's still a very valid thing to say that they believe it's a screw up because LTT is a company with a brand and they understand the importance of identity. MrCMaccc I wouldn’t say it doesn’t have a place, the majority of people will use this iPad exactly how they used their previous generation iPads because the iPad does the touchscreen control and apple pen very well and have made a name for themselves in the tablet space. The mousepad support is just another option for those who want it, it’s not trying to become a MacBook, all these features can be turned on or off depending on the customers desire. If on the other hand the keyboard and mouse became an integral part of the device (not an optional extra) then I would say your criticism may be valid as the device loses a great deal of what makes it different, however this added feature has no detriment to the functionality of the device so I don’t think it’s a valid that this feature is a negative for the device. Personally I love using my iPad for making notes at uni I do engineering and I find it difficult to type equations fast enough but am not a fan of having reams of paper notes, the iPad is perfect for me in that respect! Would i like to have the added option to occasionally set it up to use as a pseudo laptop to get a head start on my reports between lectures, hell yes I would! My point is for the people who want it this is a great addition and for the people who don’t they probably won’t even notice it’s there, there really are no negatives!

I've been using device with a touchscreen, a trackpad, a pencil and a mouse with touch features in my professional line of work. Believe me, there's a niche use case for each. I've found myself jumping around three of them - quick scroll with a finger, precision click with trackpad, just to finish with a pencil drag and drop.

The iPad was released 10 years ago, but only started getting serious updates when Microsoft released the Surface Pro 🤔 And Apple openly said that the “Surface Pro” wouldn’t work, Tim literally said “you can’t combine a toaster and a fridge” , yet that’s exactly what they’re doing with the iPad so I guess they changed stances.

Frank the Ant yeah, if you even remember back when the SP4 was announced (that was when the iPad Pro 1st gen was announced), the invite picture I think actually was a toaster and a fridge combined, and then they went on to release the Surface Book. Surface was the most important product of the last decade, it created the 2 in 1 category and popularized having good materials on Windows laptops and good, innovative designs. For the surface brand being so young it’s doing really well, and you know how stubborn Apple is they don’t want to admit they’re wrong but they keep making iOS more like macos every update...

The iPad Pro seems like a great note taking platform, especially with the magic keyboard. I honestly want one with the magic keyboard, Apple Pencil, and now an Apple mouse as well. I have both,latest iPad Pro’s the 2018 and 2020 me and my girlfriend are more than happy with the rock solid OS and what they capable of in everyday use . No surprise why are they so popular, and yes sometimes I use my iPad to take photos thanks to its new cameras and the big display . As others commented below these iPads can be our best tablets for some work and for day to day use in most cases.

one surprising use case i have seen for ipads is with doctors. Physicians spend a lot of time doing 'rounds' which is where they go around the ward room and visit all their patients. During this process they'll need to explain and show things to patients, take notes on each case and look at various documents. With a laptop, you can't really show things to other people including patients and other doctors or open it discretely in these types of situations. A phone also couldn't be used, because it is seen as "unprofessional" for a doctor to pull out their phone (doctors need to google a surprising amount of things, no amount of training will turn you into an encyclopaedia). This won't replace their laptops because of the typing experience, but doctors have enough cash to get both. Another market for the ipad pro is just in high end users. People who want to use the ipad exactly as it was originally for - doing phone-like things on a massive screen. Yes the cheaper ipads will do it, but the pro does it whilst looking slightly slicker.

The thing is when you look at your doctor you just dont find it comforting to see them on their phone whilst they're talking to you because it looks like they're texting. Also, since your phone is more of a personal device their are complications around using them to record confidential information whether that be images or even just the notes that you take. The ipad is also a better device for doing this stuff because of the larger form factor. It might be boomer as fuck, but the boomers are the ones going into hospitals all the time and if you make them unhappy, it is infinitely harder to communicate with them and help them.

I really like the idea of the ipad with the magic keyboard, I use my ipad an unhealthy amount until its guaranteed demise from overuse, the keyboard makes it more appealing for me to be able to keep up in college without having to buy a separate laptop (I already have a stupid amazing desktop at home). The current first gen ipad pro I have is slowly burning out, starting with the battery, so I think this is my next buy
