Apple short seller lays out concerns with stock

Apple (AAPL) recently reported its second-quarter earnings, surpassing analyst estimates on both revenue and profitability metrics. However, not all investors are bullish on the stock, even after the tech giant announced a staggering $110 billion share buyback program. Joining Catalysts is Bireme Capital Co-founder and Chief Investment Officer Evan Tindell, who has taken a short position on Apple's stock.
Tindell believes that risks ranging from fluctuating demand in China to potential antitrust concerns "are reflected in that premium valuation" for Apple. As the company explores integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its smartphones, he notes, "It will be interesting to see" if this endeavor can truly materialize into a substantial earnings driver or upstart a replacement cycle for their devices.
Despite the company's announcement of a $110 billion share buyback program, Tindell remains skeptical, asserting that this move does not accurately reflect the company's valuation multiples.
"I think if you hold Apple long-term, you're likely to make a positive return," Tindell tells Yahoo Finance. "I just think the risks are to the downside in the next year or two."

For all the people wishing bankruptcy on “shorts” don’t seem to understand that shorting is good for the market, it adds tons of liquidity to the market and helps balance things out. Short sellers are buyers just like you. You buy shares low and sell them high. Short selling is simply doing it in reverse, they sell high and then buy low, but they always BUY and sell just like you. By selling your stock you are pulling your liquidity out of the market, while shorting puts liquidity into the market when selling and pulling it out when buying. Stop hating on the ying to your yang.

just looked at APPL chart weekly + daily...i can see why he's bearish. there may be a little pull back as it hits some 188 189....but if it breaks through that zone...its to the moon. 196 looks like another area of resistance.

I also agree with his frankness. Regardless, I reckon his shorting is going to flop and he's likely losing money on this. Even though I think consumers are increasingly going "meh" about Apple's release cycles, I don't think we're yet at the place buyers simply stop caring about the current and immediate future offers. It's a huge risk, and either he knows something we don't or he's just willing to burn cash to get lucky/risky cash. Risky as.

People are waiting for the next big tech advance in EV battery before they really buy them. Right now, EV range is around 300 miles which is not what most people would like in a car. The next battery tech will push that to 500 miles, and it is not far away why buy now and watch your car value depreciate? Only those with too much money and those who can monetize these EV would buy right now, the rest will wait. In addition, Chinese car are already good and cheap. So short to mid term, tesla is in huge problem. Apple on the other hand still have a solid foundation, it is being challenge by china but the demands everywhere else is still good. It also is making good money from services to offset the loss in china. So I just don't see it the same as tesla.

Yeah the demographics of India can’t afford over a 100,000 rupee phone. Average Indians make around 25-30,000 rupees a month. Used market for iPhones is great not the high margin new phone sales. Don’t just look at the population of India with googly eyes think about what portion can afford new iPhones.
