Why would the groom's family have to pay for the wedding now that the marriage is getting annulled? The event is what it is, all the services were used just the same. Also ai needs to realize that nobody punches the bride and expects to come away with... a payout? I guess brides do get punched but textlanders love to assault one another and immediately admit to it in writing and in great detail, and nobody then says it's 'no big deal'. People's actions have to make some sense even in fiction.
