I bought my Apple TV last summer, and to use the phrase "I haven't looked back" would be a bit of an understatement. Nowadays I find absolutely no use for the OG software on my smart tv, and would love for it to eventually fully replace my cable box. The software is so smooth, and I absolutely love the Siri capabilities (and how useful a built-in rechargeable battery is). If you're on the fence about buying one, trust me, buy an Apple TV

When using the iPhone to setup the colors it specifically says not to hold it against the screen but at a distance (few centimeters) otherwise the camera can pick up individual led.

@@JamesBondX007 I believe it works through FTP, at least it worked like that on iPad few years ago. The VLC app creates a server and you just write the IP address on your Mac, iPhone or PC and drag the files there. The transfer speed depends on your router (not your internet) so it's pretty fast and convenient.

Great point about ads. My sony A80J oled software is laggy and not that responsive. Apple tv should blow it away even if you dont own apple tv+. The software, hardware, ad free experience is enough. Plusses are the build quality especially the remote, privacy especially compared to google, and stuff like being able to turn on and control your tv, apple tv device and av receiver all with the apple remote.

@@harpreetSingh-ue4vz if it’s connected to the earc/arc port of your tv, it will turn the tv off when you turn off the Apple TV. Make sure the CEC is turned on in the sound settings.

Bought the apple tv 4k yesterday and compared to my previous experience with other streaming boxes I can say the apple tv is faster and overall a little better. It's pricey IMO. I was using a firestick for years then switched to a very cheap Onn streaming box from walmart. The Onn was great for the price. The apple box is much better and I love the remote. I guess it's worth it for having a better and faster experience than cheaper streaming gadgets

Thank you for the clip. I sense that you are reviewing this within the framework of being within the Apple ecosystem, while I am not. I am using an old WDTV Live to playback media ripped from DVDs over last decades that are stored on a Synology NAS. This is the only function super important to me, along with the ability of the TV box to automatically associate the corresponding .SRT subtitle files named inline with the media file on the NAS. The WD TV box sees the NAS folder as a network share. Does the Apple TV 4K connect to a NAS over the local net and do that?

Thank you for your review. I've an Apple TV myself too, and i love it. It has another strength and some drawbacks that were not mentioned in the video which i would like to add. It's major strength (beside being super fast and clean) is that it supports native refresh rates of 24hz for the most important streaming apps. This makes it unique compared to other streaming devices. It also has some drawbacks: it does not support uncompressed Dolby Atmos and uncompressed DTS:X, and it does not support Dolby Vision Profile 7 FEL. This makes it not the best device for playing UHD-Blu-rays (not even with Infuse Pro). As a streaming device, it is briljant. To play ultra-high quality UHD blu-ray's, the best device is the Ugoos AM6B+ with CoreElec.

I'm not sure why you would want a screensaver on your TV. Why not just turn it off? It looks like you have to be an Apple fanboy to use this thing. I have an iPhone, but it just sits in my desk drawer because I can't stand to use it. The video camera is pretty good, so I use it for that sometimes. Too bad they don't care about the majority of people that don't have or want iPhones (More than 1 billion iPhones and over 3 billion Android devices are currently active worldwide).

@michaelkane2883 Yeah, and it freezes in different ways. Sometimes its the remote that freezes. I can still control it with the phone app. Other times it just completely freezes. Ive literally spend 20-30 hour over 6 months trying different fixes and any ideas I could find online. Finally just gave up. Maybe it has some minor short

My only complaint with the Apple TV ( i returned mine) is that it did not control my Yamaha receiver (turning it off and on) when I turn it on the tv. My firestick does this function and hopefully the next Apple tv that comes out will remedy this situation and I will give it another try. I did like the UI a lot more with the apple tv.

Just wanted to quickly check whether the latest Apple TV 4K 128GB (Wi-Fi + Ethernet model) can transmit both Audio + Video to an Audio/Video receiver such as mine is Yamaha RX-V685 so its like I’ll connect an HDMI cable from the eArc HDMI port of this Apple TV 4K box into one of the HDMI “In” input of the A/V receiver & connect my Audio/Video receiver to my Sony A80L OLED TV from my A/V receiver’s HDMI 2 Out all the way in TV’s HDMI 3 eArc port. Can doing this show video content of various OTT apps on the TV screen? B’coz one of the representatives at an Apple Store said the Apple TV 4K cannot transfer video into the Audio/Video receiver as it is meant to be directly connected to a TV.

Yes, I have finally bought & connected the Apple TV 4K into the HDMI 1 “IN” of the Yamaha RX-V685 A/V receiver & from HDMI 2 Out (eArc) of this Yamaha receiver all the way into the HDMI 3 (eArc) port of SONY A80L OLED. The HDMI cable connected from Apple TV 4K into the Yamaha A/V receiver is of standard Belkin with Ethernet & from Yamaha to SONY is the AudioQuest Pearl 48 8K-10K. Can you kindly suggest whether I should consider changing the HDMI Belkin cable to ProFiGold V2103 8K HDMI cable? Will it output even far more superior Audio & Video quality?

@@ApoorvaA735G I don't think so, HDMI is for digital data transmission, unless the cable quality is so bad that cause data lost, otherwise, you won't see or hear the difference. Belkin is HDMI 2.1, which supports 8K 60 fps max, more than enough for your receiver.

@@thomascheuk Actually mine is quite an older one bought in 2017. The outer package of this Belkin HDMI mentions upto 1080p supported. On the cable itself, it is mentioned "High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet". I feel it needs to be changed to a better one to complete the entire sync.

I try to tell people not to get the higher end rokus the google streamer or the fire cube and just get an apple tv but theyd rather hate on apple than get a much better hardware AND software experience…no home screen ads, no crappy plastic build quality, a vastly superior remote, a better UI and so on. And all of this straight out of the box. And I've noticed people actually think you NEED and iPhone to set up and use an apple tv. For almost the same price you're absolutely better off going with apple on this.

I just don't see the need for an Apple TV. LG smart tv apps offer the same viewing and sound experience through a sonos arc. Some out there say the Nvidia shield tv offers the vest picture of everything out there, including the built in tv apps, but the picture quality is already so good on modern day OLED's I don't see how it could much of ab upgrade.

Lets see no external USB ports so you're stuck with whatever storage is available on the device. The apple TV remote isn't even backlit so there's another drawback and finally you can't enjoy high resolution audio like Dolby Atmos with your 4K UHD movies. I'll stick to my Nvidia shield TV anyday of the week
