yea, but for most people, a TV's apps are just fine. If you are into Home theater then an Apple TV really is a must. It can control any receiver that is hooked up to the TV via ARC. and the Apple TV has a lot of settings to choose from, like Dolby Vision & Atmos. An Apple TV is also great for an older TV where the TV's processor is older and making the TV slow.

I think it depends on the TV. I have a Roku TV and honestly prefer watching streaming apps through it rather than on my Fire Cube. Not quite sure how to put my finger on it but the apps just run smoother and less clunky when through the Roku

I bought a new Sony tv last year, nice picture but using Apps were a nightmare. The plan was to sell it on and get a new tv but instead I bought the latest Apple TV box. So glad I did because it completely changing the way we watch tv. All my other streaming devices are now redundant. Brilliant device and well priced too.

have the latest and prior 4k Apple TV and the newer one is faster a a touch more responsive. However, I would not upgrade to the new model if you have the 2nd gen 4k tv. They both seem like they can last 10 years before they seem slow. There's no need for a new Apple TV to come out for years, there is no new video or audio formats that Apple TV needs and the next one is Dolby Flex, which is suppose to use the TV as a center channel and you add additional speakers as needed, so not sure if Apple TV needs to have Dolby Flex. Either way thats a small upgrade that will take a few years to implement properly.

Agree, Apple TV does work very well. This from an android user. I don't have the whole ecosystem, just a mini and a iPhone 13. None the less, it is the best streaming device I've owned, this far., Kudos

Do you know why after the update I don’t have HomeKit controls at all in control center on my Apple TV? It’s still acting as a hub and using Siri on the remote I can still control my lights, etc but there’s no home icon in control center 🤷🏻‍♂️

Considering how good the A TV & the Remote are - I think it is a steal. I also end up spending more time using the A TV than any other of my Apple devices -which makes for a wise purchase. (iPhone 14 Pro - M2 MBA etc+++) Just bought a Samsung S95C & played with their streaming app - I found it clunky & annoying & the remote ain't as good - by a long shot... I like some added features in the new iOS. You pointed out a few important tips as well👍👍

I have my Apple TV 4K hooked up to the HDMI 2.1 port of my TV set, and the TV connected via HDMI 2.1 port to my Yamaha AV receiver with eARC support. I can use either remote control, but normally use the Siri Remote/iPhone Remote App. So check how your devices are connected. Apple TV box to your TV set, and your TV to your soundbar (ARC/eARC available and also quality HDMI cables in use that do support 4K/ARC/eARC Or your Apple TV directly to your soundbar via HDMI and your soundbar to your TV set. Connection cables need to support ARC/eARC

It is not Apple’s field, but TV streaming services. Sky is in the UK and EU with different apps, in Germany TV streaming services are offered by Telekom with their Magenta TV app, or WaipuTV and from Switzerland there is Zattoo TV. Basically they have replaced cable TV, and even satellite TV set ups. Apple TV box and Amazon’s Fire Sticks are the way to go. Just choose what fits best your budget, and consumer profile. Both are much better and superior than the smart TV built in OS systems

Open the remote app on your iPhone, which needs to be connected to your Apple TV box. Top right corner tap on Find and select Siri Remote. Or you could just ask Google. 😅

You need to set your Video and Audio settings to > SD4K > Match Content choose the following settings > Match Dynamic Range ON > Match Frame Rate ON Background: movies/TV shows are shot and broadcasted in a certain frame rate 24/30/50/60 Hz. This allows the Apple Tab box 4K to choose the correct frame rate automatically. If you see a black screen for a split second, that is when the frame rate is changed/matched to whatever you selected to watch on different apps. Also: if you watch content on KZbin in let’s say 4K, and an ad pops up, the Apple TV will match the frame rate (as an ad is most likely not streamed in 4K quality)

I have never seen an ad on an Apple TV, other than in-app like KZbin. Apple + is simply combining and presenting content of apps that are installed. If you do not want to see the Apple TV+ recommendations, just move the app to the second row on the Home Screen!

Still no fix for the Apple HomePod mini not giving you surround sound where you can keep using your tv speaker and or stereos speakers along with your HomePod for full surround. It’s either the HomePod or nothing unless you turn off the HomePod and have the TVs built in sound. Annoying. I would love to have the ability to select back speakers to enhance either effects or boost talking. Currently the HomePod just doesn’t cut it, so really been a big a waste of money. Hoped os 17 would have sorted it but no.

Firstly: you need two Home Pod minis and pair them as a set for stereo sound. The HomePod mini just doesn’t support surround sound with Dolby Atmos 5.1 or 7.1 Apple never said anywhere that the HomePod mini would support surround sound. That is exclusively only a part of the HomePod when used as a pair.

It is not missing bitstream, thankfully. Dolby Digital Plus is bitstream, and often broadcasted (also with Atmos meta data) in 5.1 or 7.1 The Apple TV is converting this internally into Linear PCM Tone. No disadvantages to this conversion for the user. Please educate yourself on the differences of the specific audio codecs.

Why would you have a smart plug installed? The smart plug is using more electricity (and connected to your HomeKit) that the subwoofer simply plugged in. My subwoofer is activated when I switch in either the TV, the Apple TV box which also activates my Yamaha AV receiver (the subwoofer is wired to the Yamaha AV receiver) But if you want to have it the difficult way: create a short cut on your iPhone! Good luck for a problem that isn’t a problem to begin with!

Apple TVs get updated regularly, smart TVs not so much. If you have iOS devices, there’s some cool connectivity with those. It’s prettier and smoother than your TV interface, almost certainly. If you don’t have an Apple household, don’t bother.

@@dancedwards I'm in the Ecosystem (Mac, iPhone, watch), I just wonder, IF I were to buy the new AppleTV, how would it make my experience better? My Samsung TV (2022 model NeoQled) is fast, I can cast any apple device without lag or issues. I initially bought the old Apple TV for screencast as it was the only way. FaceTime calls are better on my Mac as I have a camera, using an iPhone as a camera is still weird without a proper stand (haven't found one).

It can run plex, netflix, Disney, prime, KZbin etc and live tv channels, something the appletv doesn’t do. Not sure if it’s worth it getting a appletv device when the new smart tvs now seem to do everything I want anyway.

I don't like the fact that tvOS17 differs from device to device . The Apple TV 4K 1st gen / 2nd gen & 3rd gen all have a differet feature set - who knows what will be dropped in tvOS18 or with a 4th generation ? I noticed this! I just got a 4k Apple TV and before updating it I tried watching Netflix on my LG OLED TV. It kept freezing and I got very worried. I only heard good things but I immediately had issues. Once I updated it seems to be working great now. Guess I got one right at the perfect time.

So a third party app is causing an issue with a third party device? Since when is that the responsibility of Apple? Netflix needs to fix that, and LG with Netflix! And both with Apple - not the other way around!
