Brilliant video as always. What I love about you and your channel is that your video production is as good as the big channels, you aren't pretentious and don't profess to be the spokesperson of everyone (which the big channels do). Your outcomes are not predictable and if something is shite you call it out. I thought this video was really good. For me, Android OEMs don't lack Apple in terms of quality or innovation (often the opposite) but rather the marketing. Apple is a true lifestyle brand and owning a device evokes a feeling of belonging to something. That's where Google, Samsung and the like need to make gains. Love to see a video about the benefits of a blended ecosystem! Keep up the amazing work my friend.

Regarding the ecosystem, I think tech reviewers put way more importance into it than regular people, because it suits their use cases more. And because they all use Macs, it's obviously that the things they do would lend themselves better to sticking within the same ecosystem. But most people aren't transferring video files to their laptop to edit videos. That's not a common thing to do. I use a Galaxy S21 Ultra, a Galaxy Tab S7+, and a Macbook Pro 14. There aren't situations where I think "man I wish I had an iPhone." I like to view and edit my phone's photos on my laptop, but it's just as simple as going to the Google Photos website and downloading the photos I need. Don't get me wrong. Ecosystems are nice. I like that I can seamlessly switch my Galaxy Buds Live between my phone and tablet without having to unpair and pair and all that stuff. It just works. I like that I can move high-res videos between my phone and my big tablet screen so I can view the videos on the bigger screen. I'm just saying that this integration is 1.) Not hugely important to most people, and 2.) Not done exclusively well by Apple.

Yes, I agree that there is a lot of focus on content creation use cases. A lot of people don’t care about those. I have to say I do find Samsung tablets very productive, and very easy to switch between tablet and desktop like experience

Same thing for me, I have a Macbook, mac mini and iPad pro, but I don't think it's worth to get an iPhone yet, I have an S20 FE and still rocks with the cameras and performance for about 500 USD. I think iPhones are overrated, to me does not makes sense to purchase an expensive iPhone when I can get a very cool android phone with great features for almost half the price of an iPhone

Hey, I have a Macbook Air, thinking about getting a Nothing Phone 1 as I love what I've seen of it. Do you really not miss things like Airdrop to your laptop, or using the Messages app on your laptop to text?
@joshread3740
@joshread3740 Жыл бұрын
@@swarming1092 it just depends on your use case. I use Facebook Messenger rather than iMessage, so that is synced between my Android phone and tablet and my MBP. If, however, you use iMessage, the transition would be a lot harder for you. Regarding Airdrop, I'm not going to pretend it's not nice. It's just, I don't really use that type of thing. My photos and videos get uploaded to Google Photos and I can view them right away on my MBP. If, however, you edit videos on your MBP and shoot the videos with your phone, it won't be as easy or seamless as with iPhone. Again, just depends on how deeply you reply already on Apple ecosystem.

I own an M1 Macbook pro, iPhone 14 pro, Apple watch series 7, S21FE, Samsung Tab S8 and a galaxy watch. To be honest I just enjoy using my samsung devices more. Apple ecosystem is overated in my opinion and my samsung devices do all of thesame stuff and more. For fluidity I'll give Apple a little edge but Samsung is right up there in the ecosystem game as well. My Samsung TV, washing machine, fridge, phone, tablet and watch sync and work amazingly together.

Coming from a Sony user - I've always though that Android phones lean a little towards the 'enthusiast' consumer, and Apple towards a more generic audience. Sony photos require editing, but can yield in many cases, better photos, and even more artistic styling if you want a particular look. But Apple wins in the 'point and click' category. I'm aware not everyone wants to 'work' for their photos. As a total Sony fanboy, Is it the only phone I will ever use? - Yes. Would I recommend it to 80% of people? - No way. Because I'm aware it's for a particular type of user. Love the videos as always Alex, keep it up mate!!

long comment heads up For context, I've been consistently watching Mrwhosetheboss for a few years now, and I love almost all of his videos. The only video I that I have actually hit the dislike button on was the Apple vs Android ecosystems video feat. MKBHD you referenced early on in this video. I wrote a long comment on that video about how the usual objectivity I had come to appreciate and expect from his videos just wasn't present in that particular video. And, the only big difference between that video, and his normal videos, was seemingly MKBHD. I'll be the first to admit that I didn't watch MKBHD before seeing that video. (Of course I knew who he was, but I had never watched any of his videos). But, after watching that collab video, I knew that I would continue to not watch his content. I had genuine constructive criticisms for almost every point they awarded in that video (which I had written in my comment). I noticed I wasn't the only one with this type of reaction. Many top comments also pointed out the strange logic (or lack thereof) in the video also suggesting that MKBHD was giving Apple (much) more credit than they deserved. I think I've watched every video he's made since that comparison video released, and I haven't encountered another "bad apple" yet. At the same time, Mrwhosetheboss never addressed or acknowledged the inconsistency, that was undeniably present in that video compared to his other videos, to this day, that I'm aware of. This was a small L for Mrwhosetheboss, but an L nonetheless. I can only speculate why he never responded, but I'm confident it wasn't because he didn't see it. He reads enough of his comments that he would have definitely noticed a lot of top comments calling him out. Why he seemingly ignored said comments is a mystery to me. With all that out of the way, I'm glad you made this video (I know I'm late to finding it). I haven't encountered another video calling out the poor logic used in that video and just being down-to-earth in general. You earned a like and sub from me. On another note, the toxic iMessage culture (luckily) doesn't have as much weight as a lot of Americans think it does. Outside of the United States, nobody uses the stock/default texting apps that come preinstalled on their phones, no matter what phone they own. In most countries, WhatsApp is how everyone communicates. In other countries like Japan and Taiwan, it's Line. This is why I was so confused why Apple was threatening the UK earlier this year to not include iMessage or FaceTime on their British iPhones... they don't use those apps anyway... it wouldn't matter. WhatsApp is better than every stock texting app in every way from what I've experienced, and hope that the US might adopt the more global culture of using a third party app like WhatsApp, but I doubt that will happen, which sucks a lot for any Android user living in the U.S. I don't think enough attention is brought to how elitist it is to shame or criticize someone for the color of their text message bubbles, and therefore which phone they choose to buy, especially for the "land of the free." The phrase "just get an iPhone" is a mindless and elitiest response to a simple problem that *ALREADY HAS GREAT SOLUTIONS*... solutions that we Americans choose to not use (WhatsApp, Line, etc). I don't know what the point of making this comment was, I guess just venting about problems in the tech world. Anyway, great video.

thank you so much! Welcome to the channel. Yes, that video made my blood boil a bit. It was very random. I think Marques has been trying to redeem himself recently but every now and then the true colours come out and it's just too hard for him to genuinely criticise Apple. Some channels are Apple focused and ran by Apple fans so I kinda understand those. But Marques is almost like a reference for tech for so many consumers, so for me his bias feels a bit wrong. If I could afford to I’d have both but for me android has been my os of choice for the last 10 years or so now. Little things like better notification management, notification icons in the status bar, easily applying icon packs using something like nova launcher, waaaay better customisation with widgets and layout ….HAVING ZERO ICON OR WIDGET LABELS ON THE HOMESCREEN!!! 😂 so annoying on iOS, can have a really nice custom layout but you gotta do the app icons 1 by 1, create blank widgets or apps to be able to have apps where you want not just in the set grid, having to create them all through shortcuts etc it’s just pathetic in 2022. Let people express themselves!! I’ve tried iOS many times in the last decade, I did really like using the 14 pro max but I just couldn’t replace android with it. Pro Raw for photos at 48mp is friggin insane though, I’m big in to photography and the quality Pro Raw produces is just on another level! Not enough for me to switch though 😆. And like someone else said- iPhone isn’t bad at all… it’s just I’ve been Apple exclusive for years now and I just feel bored/stuck. Samsung is leading the innovation aspect imo. But I LOVE my iPad Air/Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil setup. I think switching it up and not having any loyalty to either side is healthy. You get the best of both worlds, use what you like, and not be in the dark on cool new things. I also kinda like the idea of not locking myself into an ecosystem. It’s freeing in a way. Lastly- truly love your take on things. The ecosystem myth is a great perspective. I also subscribed- keep it up boss!

In reality, once you are committed to one, it is difficult to change. Apple is clever in not allowing things like FaceTime and iMessage to go to Android. They know that, if they do, it will cost them, in the end.

That’s very true! Apple 100% tries to create these features to lock customers in. It’s a very successful business, arguably the most successful…but it’s nice to try something else every now and then and make the most of agnostic apps/cloud services

I'd echo Lewis in the UK: more about a blended ecosystem would be great! I have used Android phones for about 6 years and Macs for about 13. I use Threema for messaging with friends, family [mostly iPhone] and co-workers [who use mostly Android in México] . Sending photos from a Samsung phone to a MacBook Air is far more difficult than it should be; Ventura seems to have made it worse! I use File X-plore for copying/backing up photos from an S22 Ultra to a NAS on Linux and [before Ventura] a Mac Mini. Since Ventura, that Mac Mini copy has been broken. Almost as if Apple doesn't want you connecting to a network!

Absolutely right about AirPods switching between devices. It sucks quite often and pisses me off. It woke up my baby daughter a couple of times. Also Siri sucks big time. And most of the other points made against the Apple ecosystem are also valid. I have several apple devices and and several Android, I sync certain things like calendar through Google services including my messaging apps, Google messages works well between iOS and Android although my preferred messaging App is WhatsApp. If we all used a universal App this whole bubble drama would disappear, it like using a stock internet browser ( the majority of us don't).

I'm a university student, owned a Tecno POVA 3 (6gb + 128gb version cost around 160$) for my social needs (texting, calling, capturing photos and videos etc) and a Redmi Pad (4gb + 128gb version cost around 200$) for my study needs..... My father told me to get a better phone with 5G support when I bought mine..... I refused saying I don't have any need for 5G connectivity..... Also I love using wired headphones..... My father again told me to get wireless earpieces because that's what the youth nowadays are using..... I tried once with his and again my reply is the same old no..... I'm pretty happy with the devices I currently have.... I don't have any need for smartwatch too.... I still have an old mechanical watch I bought for around 3$ that still do its job perfectly..... My phone n tablet, although not high end, still perform smoothly all the tasks I need them to do..... Run all my games at pretty stable frame rates...... Airdrops? Nearby Share do the job perfectly for me, what kind of world changing work would anyone do in a mere 10-12 secs?...... Lasted nearly 4 days on full charge (the phone has 7000 mAh battery and the tablet has 8000 mAh battery).... The OS update? I don't care about them..... After all will my devices be completely useless unless I updated them to the latest standard? The answer is a big fat NO...... I will still use them upto 2027...... Green bubbles? U get annoyed? Not my problem.....

True, agree on conclusions and opinion! Android and iOS was taking from each other during the last years so many funcionalities and stealing with pride from each other, that with all their differences the systems are in the same quite similar as well. Forgot to mention that it is so easy to download files from Android to computer, where it is nightmare to download from iPhone to computer, especially to Windows.

Unlike most Android OEMs (like Google, for example), Apple can't handle being critized by tech creators. As pointed out by TiTT, they ban creators from receiving review units if they're critical of Apple while handing them to those who blindly praise them.

You're spot on with everything except I don't get why you said you can't argue with AirDrop and nothing comes close to it. The very same Android problem you mentioned also exists when someone wants to share something from Apple to a non-Apple device. It's a problem for Apple users as much as it is for Android and it makes AirDrop just as flawed as Nearby Share, Quick Share or whatever else.
@AlexGTech
@AlexGTech Жыл бұрын
Yes, I just think Airdrop is more seamless. Nearby Share is great but it's not always seamless. Airdop is not 100% either but just feels more consistently good. As I discovered very recently, with 5G speeds that issue kinda goes away. I recoreded over 40GB of 8K footage in the S23 Ultra a few days ago, came back to the studio and within minutes that was all in Google Photos in original quality. Downloaded them all into my Mac within a few minutes again. Did not miss Airdrop or needed any cables 😎

The greediness of apple is being applauded. I can not use my galaxy buds 2 on my iPhone 14 pro but I can use them on my MacBook Air. I don't know the logic of it but its probably money. It annoys me. So, I'm new to the Apple ecosystem and I'm probably still in the honeymoon period as I write this comment, but so far I'm still amazed by features in the ecosystem. I've been a Linux/Android guy for absolutely years, but work bought me an M1 Macbook Pro about four weeks ago and it has increased my productivity tenfold, everything on it just works smoothly. I was actually so impressed that I went out and bought a 12.9" M2 iPad Pro to pretty much just use as an extra screen with sidecar (after watching your other video, now wish I'd just bought the M1 but hey ho). I'm only just scratching the surface of iPad OS, but I think I'm gonna be moving further into the Apple ecosystem as the years go on. For further context, I've got a Z Fold 4 which I also love... But may now consider a folding apple phone if they release one

Dear Alex I just wanted to reach out and let you know that you have gained a new subscriber - me! I have been thoroughly enjoying your content and can't wait to see what new videos you have in store. I was wondering if you could possibly do a review on how well the Apple iPhone's airdrop feature works with laptops that are not MacBooks. Specifically, I am curious about whether you think it is better to have an iPhone paired with a Windows laptop or an Android phone paired with a MacBook. I know that obviously iPhones work better with MacBooks, and Samsung phones work better with Samsung laptops. However, I am actually more interested in which phone is more diverse in terms of pairing with another brand laptop. I think it would be great to show that Android phones actually work great when paired with the same brand laptop. For example, Huawei also has airdrop features, Samsung as well, and Xiaomi even allows you to literally see your phone screen on the laptop. I'd love to see your thoughts on these features. Thank you for all the great content you create, and I look forward to seeing more! Best regards

I own an M1 iPad Pro and find the limitations in the software a real problem, you can do much more on Android but the hardware is not as good. I like the idea of trying to convince you, one way or another - it would have to be based on different needs. I'd say if you are a Windows user and don't care about the whole iMessage thing, the Android devices would be a better fit and have plenty more innovative options. If you use Macs, Apple Watch and iPads, it is trickier to switch but definitely not impossible. If you don't rely on things like Airdrop, it is totally doable to have an Android phone and still use a Mac/iPad for different things. Most of the apps I use are multi-platform but some people have to stick with Apple for iOS/iPadOS only apps like Procreate.

This video focused more on Apple when I was hoping for more of a comparison of ecosystems. Maybe write down some of the most common things people do with their products. There are few categories in which all ecosystems share. 1) Phone 2) Watches/fitness trackers 3) Computer/Tablet 4) Earbuds If there was a way to break these categories down individually and compare Samsung vs Apple vs Google, that would be great. Nobody does this. It’s a huge undertaking to do it right, but I believe you could pull it off. It’s a love/hate relationship I have with Apple AND Android. I love android SO much better but the ecosystem of Apple has me stuck! Just an example when comparing watches… Galaxy watch was nice because it offered their version of Apple fitness+ for FREE. I could beam it to my tv and see live stats during workout like Apple but at no cost. In order to do this with Apple you HAVE TO BUY Apple TV. The Apple Watch is already more expensive, then you add the subscription AND Apple TV, it quickly becomes a LOT more expensive. Galaxy watch too has a find my phone, camera controller, onboard storage for music, etc. Apple Watch workout apps just worked better. They are more seamless and just work without effort. A larger community of people to share fitness with (because most people I know have iPhones). Apple Pay is more widely accepted. And don’t forget Garmin. Free topographic maps, download trails and navigation, onboard workouts etc. no need for apps upon apps upon apps. Works with Android AND Apple. Only difference is quick text replies only work on Android. Just some thoughts to think about. Love your channel. I’ve been watching since your sweet Brown sugar s21 Ultra.

Oh wow thank you! This is probably one of the best constructive feedback I've received since I started this channel! I love the structured idea you proposed, Will definitely take this into account next time. I have touched on the Garmin subject when reviewing the Apple watch Ultra, and having spoken to a few Garmin users it's pretty much a non-starter for Apple at the moment. Those customers get a lot more with the Garmin watches, including as you say, the ability to sync with both systems. Lots to consider for sure but thank you so much for sharing this!

Hi Alex, need some suggestions from you, maybe you can help. I'm looking for a tablet, i have windows pc and android phone My option: 1. Samsung tab s8/9 (not far off) 2. Ipad pro 128/8 (m1 or m2) 3. Ipad air m1 256gb My concerns: My first choice is ipad pro, storage 128gb actually a great option but it's cheaper with ipad air As my first tablet, is it better to invest a little bit more money to M2? But samsung tablet not bad, and it compatible with windows and looks flexible, but Is it last long? Not sure.. With ipad it's guarantee good at least longer than samsung, but the price around 1,5x-2x more than samsung tablet The price for Samsung tablet is great, sometimes they also give keyboard for free, Or should I just choose ipad, even though it's more expensive? Which ipad? Ipad air have many limitations from the software, like transfer speed, etc. Many people must have the same concern like me 😆 I'm confused 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

The file has to be uploaded to Samsung cloud first though then they have to download it from there. The good thing is it lets me share remotely to multiple people at once - like Google drive except that they don't have to log in to anything. I'm the only one who uses a Samsung phone at work.
