I would honestly say this is a pretty good upgrade from the 6, the 8 will probably be much more impressive but a bigger screen and faster charging is pretty much all they could’ve added other than a faster chip. Still wish they had upgraded the s7 from the s6 but it’s still a great watch.

I’ve had the same theory you have about a lot of their products these past couple of years. It feels like the iPhone 12 and 13 were originally designed to be the same phone but got split up (remember how smaller notch and ProMotion were rumored for the 12 then “got dropped” a couple of months before launch?) The iPad mini should’ve come out with the iPad Air last year. iOS 14 and 15 were supposed to be the same update (why did iPad get Home Screen widgets an entire year later? And why did they change the Home Screen grid for iPadOS 14 only to change it again in iPadOS 15 so they can fit the widgets in?) It all just feels weird, like they looked at the pandemic, realized it would derail their plans, and decided to split their 2020 stuff into two parts so they’d have something in 2021, then use the stuff that was originally meant for 2021 in 2022 while they got back on track.

Hey Dave, two things that helped me the most for sleep that I take before bed: L-Theanine (200-400mg) & Magnesium L-Threonate (300-400mg). These are from Andrew Huberman's sleep cocktail. The other, is early morning workouts so that you feel exhausted by nights end. Great channel, have to support our Canadian folks and wish you the best.

Very good feature in fact but at the end of the day with the features and the ui imma have to go with the Apple Watch. To be honestly the Fitbit is the ugliest and most overrated piece of shit I’ve ever seen in the tech community, but only matters if you like it

@@mathmanchris666 HAHA...so the asthetics... like the sense that looks very similar to the Apple watch is the ugliest thing you have ever seen...I mean you said it. I agree... in that I much prefer the cicrle watch faces but they are what they are. Apple could be making a lot more money if they opened the watch to work with Android but in true fashion they cripple themselves with a locked system. That only matters if you are drinking the coolaid and like it. I would say most apple products are the most overrated in the tech community...but that is finally turning around that they crumbled to right to repair and their silicone. For years they have been dragging their feet... the are actually pushing other tech to catch up now. It's good to see all of them responding.

@@justinmwilcox fr man specially with the m1 Mac's, they really changed the game. Tbh until 2020, the only apple devices that I really liked were the iPad and the apple watch. I felt these two devices were always class leading. Now the rest of the tech is actually starting to look good. Even then iPhone 13 pro max has the best battery in any smartphone at the moment. And associating battery with iPhone was a pretty bizarre statement until a few years back.

Hey Dave I hope this comment finds you. I don’t think you have a Sleeping Problem. I think you have an organizational Problem. I struggled for years with what you described, I always having things to do. So what i did was start to break things down from important to not important in my life. I only spend a couple hours now on KZbin a week and im very selective in what i watch. Your kids will need you in their life’s for a long time. There are too many studies that prove good sleep leads to healthy long lifestyle. So if you need a reason to rest, do it for your kids. Take a break, start sorting out your day, and you will find the things you spend a lot of time on are not important. Get Organized with priorities and focus putting that stuff around the 8 hours of sleep. God Bless!

@@isaacr7416 he's talked on previous video about trying to level up on Pokémon and he's a video game player. He has time if he wants to 'sacrifice' those things. The richest person in the world Jeff Bezos makes it a priority to have 8 hours of sleep and he has more on his plate than Dave. Dave makes that much money that he can outsource many things in his life to gain back time. Sleep isn't something we have an option to do, it's as important if not more than exercise or a good diet, 4 hours of sleep is chronically depriving yourself and I'm sure he uses caffeine to mask it, a bad cycle to be in. If he carried on with this lifestyle he would pay for it not now but in about 15+ years I'm not an expert but I was doing nightshifts and exercised good and even had a good diet but I got seriously ill out of no where. I tweaked some of the display and notification settings on my series 6 to get more battery life out of it. Getting a whole day along with sleep on one charge was a challenge. The display seems to be the biggest draw. I can get 2 days out of my watch if I put it in cinema mode, but I didn't like to have to tap the face to get the time so I compromised. I turned off "raise to wake" and let "always on" turned on. That along with turning off most of the notifications allows me to get a day and a half if I want to. I give a full charge around lunchtime when I am in the shower, then I charge it before I go to bed. We all have to find a routine that works.

I’m not sold by the refracted display. Most of the time you won’t be able to see clearly what’s along the perimeter because the curvature reflects light from all around you. You end up tilting the watch here and there just to shift away the white lines of light that get onto the sides. It’s inevitable that future watches will get a flat display. Till then, I continue to rock series 1.

4:50 // I have a series 6 titanium and I’ve been able to have a full day of fitness tracking and sleep tracking. I charge my watch twice a day; once before I go to bed (30min-1hr) and once in the morning when I’m getting ready for work (30min-1hr). With the faster charge time of the series 7, I would have maybe an extra hour of fitness tracking a day. But - is that worth it?

Coming from smartwatches that last for 7-14 days on a charge (with moderate to heavy use)... I just can't go back to charging every day. Not to mention battery degradation of charging every day. Until Apple can make a watch last longer than 2-3 days on a charge, it's not even a consideration for me anymore. That's just my 2 cents, I know some folks make due with 18 hr battery life.

Dave I think you are 100% right on pushing back the redesign. If the rumors about the iPhone 14 are true, it just fits to release an updated watch with it that starts that new chapter. This year it has been a iPhone 12s and Series 6s kind of release (Marques said it first) and if we are being honest it makes sense. Making large changes requires extra production time and with so many shortages and production delays happening it is smart to push that back. Maybe a coincidence and in reality apple planned to release a minor update on the lineup but all the rumors being wrong just hints at it being a change of mind.

Covid changed the use case for the watch, just like everything else. Discrete notifications in a meeting or even taking the stairs and walking more to meet “step goals” changed. Even WEARING a watch became unnecessary because I wasn’t going anywhere. The blood oxygen sensor was helpful though, especially as an early Covid monitor.

Just bought a Garmin Fenix 6 Pro instead of upgrading my AW series 5. I can see using both but honestly for fitness and tracking I leave the Garmjn on. Of course the Apple Watch is worlds smarter and has a gorgeous screen, but that battery does not do it for long workouts or if your training for a triathlon event like a 70.3. Maybe the series 8 will offer a more rugged, thicc boi model for athletes?

@@salmiakki5638 Forerunners are awesome but I wanted the best display and the offline maps since that seems like a really nice feature. I feel like nobody is talking about the brighter always on display. I own an older wear os smartwatch and while it has an AOD, it's not bright enough to just glace at the time when I'm outdoors. A readable AOD makes the smartwatch way better at being a watch, which is more important than a bigger screen imo.

Series 5 used a repackaged S4 chip, so no, this isn’t the first time it’s happened in an Apple Watch and it likely won’t be the last. Apple is probably entering a tick tock cycle of upgrading processor speed every other year. This pattern also means the unchanged processor speed isn’t evidence that the released Series 7 was a backup plan. iMO upgrades are just getting more incremental as the product matures, just like with iPhone.

Just a correction, S5 used same CPU as S4, but in a updated SoC, just like how S7 using same CPU as the S6 but in a updated SoC. Since S4 cpu I would say the performance got so good its not a obstacle for apps or features. Since then Apple seems to be on a tick-tock regarding CPU updates for the watch. I would guess we will se new CPU in S8 SoC when it comes out... and probable be used in S9 too.
