I've been rocking a series3 for years.. Considering this is an everyday wearable, i sprung for the Ultra 2. I like the aesthetic. I also preordered the 15 pro max since ive been using an 11 pro for a while now. EDIT: Couple weeks in to using the Ultra 2 and the 15 pro max. I love both of them. The Ultra 2 is surprisingly light on the wrist and the charge lasts for days. it is awesome. EDIT 2: Couple months into it. Love everything about the watch. I don't think I could ever go back to something else. This thing is always on my wrist and I've gotten a bunch of compliments for it.

Battery life really is the thing they need to work on with all these watches. I sprung for one for my now teen (they were about 11 when I got one for them to walk the 3 blocks to school up the road allowing me having peace of mind in case they ever had an emergency while also giving them independence). The battery would die way before the day was over every time - and this was with my kid hardly using it for more than looking at the time 😢..

Thanks for the tips. I got my first Apple Watch ever and upgraded from my Garmin Fenix 5x. I see that now the Apple Watch pretty much does everything the garmin does and more. Only grouse is the longer endurance of the Garmin which is amazing. But I am really loving the series 9 now.

Smartest move in my opinion is to buy a lightly used or refurbished Ultra 1. 98% of the features for a decent price now. The batteries on those hold up really well too

I've still got the Ultra 2 on my wish list. For me, the biggest advantage is the superior battery life. I like to play golf and use an app that gives me distances. Using my Series 5, I'd have to recharge my watch immediately after a round, as the use of GPS drains the battery pretty quickly, so the Ultra 2 would address that shortcoming.

If you've had your Series 5 for awhile, it could also be that your battery capacity has decreased. There are services for getting your battery replaced...but then you don't get all the nice upgrades of getting a new watch. I've had a black Series 5 (44mm) for 4 years. I enjoy it, but just pulled the trigger on a Ultra 2 (included some birthday money). I'm thinking I'll keep the Series 5 powered off unless I want it for certain dress occasions compared to a larger titanium watch (also getting a 3rd party metal link band).

On my old series 7, I would routinely kill the battery going out for a bike ride if I also had it playing music. It was often near dead after 2 hours with those demands. By any chance, do data exist for similar stress loads for the series 9 and/or ultra 2? Thanks again for your work.

I just bought the ultra 2. Man it’s amazing looking super snappy and titanium is super durable and rugged. The processor is amazingly fast and 64 gb worth of memory and 36 to 48 hour battery life is a game changer.

Went from the Watch 6 to the Ultra 2. I’m in love with it. It feels so rugged to me coming from the rather gentle Watch 6. The standard aluminum watches to me feel really felt to brittle. I don’t have an issue with that, but going to a more bigger and tougher watch feels awesome. It also fits really well into my lifestyle as I happen to hike and swim a lot. I’d usually just take off my watch, but now with the Ultra, I wear it literally all the time except when sleeping. 10/10 device.

Just upgraded from a 1st gen SE to the Ultra 2. The durability and more importantly battery life won me over. Like you - charge every day and sometimes twice if I interact with the watch a lot however, I have had multiple nights where I fell asleep and it died during the night, my phone does not wake me up nearly as well as the haptic vibration. I’m retired & was about to change my S6 for a S9, but have had serious screen issues with S6 screen damage as I’m clumsy and damage it in everyday use. I’m not into diving or outdoor sports, but durability says I should probably go for the Ultra 2 or maybe a s/h Ultra 1 might make a lot of sense.

I wanted to like my Ultra 2 but after 4 months wearability became an issue. The watch jiggled around and the crown dug into my wrist on MTB rides - ouch. Plus it didn’t fit well under a long sleeve shirt that had cuffs. Lastly, the pinch feature never performed as advertised. I enjoyed the action button, but I’ll really miss the battery life…

I totally feel the silent alarm thing. To have your wrist buzzing to wake you up is 1000% better than an alarm, even if the sound is softly chirping birds. I read that the battery-life can be quite good (almost 2+ days) when you turn off the always-on display. I am not used to it being always on because I come from a 6, so I hope the batterylife is going to be better than expected.

bought the ultra 2 simply because it is mind blowing for me to have a smartwatch, from apple, that I can use, for scuba diving, at 40m deep in sea water. And yes, I started diving last year, so I don't have any diving computer bought, hope it doesn't have bugs with the Ocean+ app tho. It's not even expensive if you're going to use it as a diving computer, a good diving computer with Bluetooth connectivity costs almost as much as this watch.

Great video. I went ahead and got an Ultra 2 today. I am a large guy 6’7 and very active outdoors. I needed something that would not break when chopping wood, carpentry work or noodling for catfish. I stopped with the smart watches all together and was using a Citizen eco titanium which works very well. My wife wanted something with gps for me to wear when I’m in the wilderness so I don’t get lost so here we are. I have almost a 10” wrist and it’s easier to just upgrade a traditional watch band. I saw this and figured I’d try it on at the store. It fit, albeit on the last little notch so I got it. Plus the battery is kinda nice to have. We will see if it survives the week.

I actually returned my Ultra 2 and will keep using my Series 4 for another year. The Ultra is nice, but I just couldn't justify the high cost of the Ultra for little to no difference in my own personal user experience. Plus I have small wrists and I honestly thought it was too big and uncomfortable for me. I wanted to like it but actually missed the smaller form factor of the Series 4 while I was wearing the Ultra. After 5 years, my Series 4 battery still gets me through the day just fine. I will try to get another year out of it and wait for the Series 10 or Ultra 3, which will hopefully be a big update or redesign.

The reason I got the 9 is cause my 5 cracked it was a gift from my wife about 4 years ago or 3 whenever it came out. I use it a lot at work. The ultra is nice but if you just buy a good case for the watch you should be fine in my opinion I work as a delivery driver i smashed my watch a lot of times like a lot the only reason it cracked was because I though I had a screen protector on it but I didn’t it fell off and I didn’t know. But if not then I would have been fine and it still holds strong on the battery I will keep the watch and keep using it for work till it don’t work anymore. The touch screen still working excellent I mean excellent even with a crack screen if I find someone that can fix it for cheap I’ll fix it and keeping using it for work and the new one for when I go out

I bought the Ultra 2. For me the critical features are the SCUBA Diving applications. This watch can replace a stand alone dive computer! My first opportunity to test this will come in a few weeks in Hawaii.

Very late to your good comparison video. I finally upgraded from my trusted Series 5 to Series 9. This was definitely a good upgrade. Screen size and brightness alone are worth it, but on device Siri and new tap gestures are excellent. I thought the tapping gesture was gimmicky until I actually had to use it. I use a mobility cane everyday, and often have something in my watch hand too. Being able to answer a call, close an app, etc..is very useful. Great video

Dez, I would have modify your main factors and add price. The Ultra2 is $300 to $400 more expensive than the 9. I liked your point about the the recharging cycles although one reason I couldn’t wait to switch from an Apple Watch was the depleted charge ability. My watch was dying after 4 to 5 hours with a workout. I also didn’t like wearing a watch that everyone else was wearing, petty I know but still. Still a great review. Thanks

The Ultra 2 is $50 more than the 45mm Stainless Steel Series 9 with cellular. It just doesn’t seem fair to compare the smaller least capable with the Aluminum case Series 9 to the largest and most capable watch. I switched last year from a $750 Stainless Steel Series 5 to the $799 Ultra. I did not think to compare my former $16 Casio (which performed very well) to the $799 Ultra. They just aren’t close enough in function to make a comparison.

The video title and whole context is comparing the Ultra2 and the Series 9. Specifically is the much more expensive Watch worth it all the extra money. At the 12:50 mark I’m referencing Dez says when deciding between the two for him it comes down to 3 things but price wasn’t mentioned. He didn’t say between the higher end version of the 9. So for me price would be a large factor as the title suggested and I thought it would also be in to him as he concluded. But hey here’s a thought maybe you should make videos comparing your $50 casio to an Ultra2.

@@JBUCKNE well, it was a $16 Casio and a $50 difference between the stainless steel version I had (series 5) and the Series 8 version I was considering when I finally decided on the Ultra last year. My point is that many content creators seem to focus on the price of the least expensive model and the Ultra. At least, select the version with similar capabilities such as a cellular capable version. As for price, I could have compared one of my Rolex watches which cost much more than $799 but, admittedly, is far outclassed by the Apple Watches in functionality. I also wonder if the buyer is focusing on price then that should be the discriminator and just buy as high as you can afford. Even the SE version is supposed to be a good watch. I understand what he is trying to demonstrate in cost versus functionality, but he just isn’t choosing comparable watches and that is what many other good content creators seem to do. I might suggest you and I are trying to say the same thing; we just approach it from two different perspectives. These watches are all purposely different in functionality and material so it is difficult to compare based on price. As to your somewhat snarky last sentence, I don’t have the talent or desire to make such a video. I am not dismissing this creators fine work, just quibbling with one relatively small point within his informative video.

I had the original SE and I wanted a new Apple Watch with faster processor and Sapphire glass screen. I was looking at the Sapphire Series 9 that only comes in stainless but the price difference between that and the Ultra 2 was only $50, so it was a no brainer to go for the Ultra 2.

I was thinking the same, I’ve got an iPhone 13 Pro Max and Watch 6, might as well got for the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the new watch that comes out then especially when both devices are still great for me and doesn’t cause any issues

My screen cracked at work I had the series 5 it was good it still is and I went to check how much to get it fixed and they said 210. I got the series 9 it’s good not much different then the 5 I still have just faster. The ultra seems really good but the price is high maybe it 4 or 5 years I’ll get a ultra

To me that have had Apple Watch 1;3;5;7 and now Ultra2 i just have to say went for Ultra 2 as i always wanted a large smartwatch.

I bought my wife the 9 because the ultra was too large for her wrist and we chose the 41mm. I updated it to stainless because shes very careless with her iphone. I had no idea how much it raised the price until check out 🤦‍♂️

Thanks for saying what needed to be said: like any watch, these watches ‘need’ to come off our wrist at some point to give our wrist a break. During that time, my AWU comes off my wrist and goes on the charger to top off. Never is an issue, for me at least. Great video!

All of my apple products are currently from 2020. I was bored today and decided to watch youtube videos on both the iPhone 15 pro max and Ultra 2. I splurged hahah. Hopefully I love them. We shall see.

When the mapping is as detailed as on the Garmin Phoenix, I’ll be buying the Apple Watch for sure. Until then, I’ll be using either the Phoenix or the Enduro series.

purchased the Series 6 stainless steel version about 3 years ago. Unfortunately, after just a year and a half, it fell off the charger and hit the floor. The watch broke and hasn't turned on since. I honestly can't recommend these watches based on my experience.
