Great video again! I love my ultra. The battery life is number one for me. Number two is the screen. This is the first Apple Watch I have owned where I don’t have scratches and dings from hitting it on door knobs and kitchen countertops. The flat screen and raised edge is perfect. Number three is the action button. I use that to control my most common lights in the living room. Use it everyday multiple times a day. Again great video Brian

I had the Apple watch 3 and have been waiting for a bigger screen for so long. As soon as they were available I bought my Apple watch Ultra and love it. The bigger screen is so much better and brighter as my eyes are that good anymore. So for me It was all about the size and screen brightness.

Favorite parts about my Ultra is the durability and battery life. As someone who works in an industrial kitchen, mountain bikes & does his own handy man tasks at home, this watch puts the rest to shame. I find it fascinating that anyone would even want the others unless you spend all day indoors. The glass durability of moving up the watch to the stainless or now dead titanium was a MUST.

Great review. But for those wondering, you can absolutely use the Ultra as your daily driver. I have way too many bands that I’ve collected over the years, and they all work well on the Ultra. The one exception would be polished stainless steel bands. Don’t use those. But titanium looks amazing on it, as do some of the wider leather bands. I’ve even worn the watch with suits and managed to get it to look good. Because, when it comes down to it, Brian, not all of us can afford to be the badass Apple you are and rock our choice of two different Apple Watches.

Thanks Brian. Best review of the Apple Watch Ultra I’ve seen. I love mine. Will never go back to a non Ultra watch. Battery life for me is the game changer. I wear it for workouts and health tracking. There are so many things I use it for though. The button on the side, I have it set to flashlight which I use all the time. Answering calls, replying to texts, podcasts, etc. When you don’t want to carry your phone around, the watch does a great job filling the gap.

Great review! Poor sea turtle looked like it had a net stuck on that shoulder. So to get to what you are looking for in the comments, I'm using an aluminum Series 8 for general stuff (and for workout tracking), and switch over to my old Series 6 for nighttime sleep tracking. I think about the Ultra, but I'm actually happy with what I currently have. I'll upgrade at some point when there's a significant difference or upgrade that I consider worth the cost.

I wear my ULTRA all the time & I agree the battery life & brightness are the real 2 differences from a series 8. I used it on a 2 week diving holiday and the Oceanic app is terrible (it didn’t record 2 of my dives - that’s a disaster and have never had that with any dive computer before.) To be clear that’s the app’s fault not the watch. The app is like beta v 0.1a. And they have the audacity to charge $10 PER MONTH!!! Such a pity Apple didn’t force a decent app to be built because it really devalues all their marketing.

I have the Watch Ultra with the Ocean Band and thats a beast!!! I’ve noticed that, using Snorkeling with the Oceanic application, even if it is free, you still have the compass visible on the screen! Very extensive video!

Great video..been testing mines without using the workout feature other than walking feature and heart rate monitoring and the results so far: charged 100% Monday(3-20-23@9am )and currently as of right now (Wed.3-22-23@5:23pm its at 67% at this rate i'll most likely get at least another 1 - 1 1/2 days before it needs a full charge ! will keep you posted as to when exactly it goes out

Damn Apple and their marketing, I have the Ultra, 14 Pro Max, AirPod Pro 2, iPad Mini 6, MacBook Pro, HomePod Mini, Apple TV 4K, Apple Pencil 2, AirTag, Magic Mouse, MagSafe wallet. They all do what I need and the ultra is my everyday watch. I even leave the house without my phone sometimes because it has everything I need if I’m just running errands. Perfect watch for me and to work with the Apple ecosystem

Love my ULTRA! Added a metal band and it’s absolutely comfortable. I’m able to get over 4 days of battery life, and the large screen is amazing. If I could make one change, it would be pushing the usable screen area out to the edge of the titanium frame. The bezel when combined with that thick protection that the case offers is unnecessary in my opinion. I would love a full screen. But yes, six months in with the Ultra has been a game changer.

You know what I just thought would be really great for people who live in California, South Africa, Australia or anywhere with sharks. Is the app on the ultra or the watch itself implemented by apple that alerts you to a shark in your vicinity!. I’m not sure if it’s even possible and of course they couldn’t warn off all sharks. But say your out diving/snorkelling and on shore someone’s like oh man great white to life guards. They could then send an alert to your phone that says warning shark spotted in your area of swimming, diving leave the water!. I’d email Tim Cooke but it’ll likely get lost. So hopefully Brian might be able to run it by him see what he thinks. If it saves just one swimmer it’d be worth it.

Yeah, mate. I was on the same fence. But gone for the Ultra. You won’t be disappointed. I had the Series 3 and 7 both Cellular Edition. The battery life on the Ultra is in itself worth the upgrade. If you have the *larger bands* from prior watches (42, 44 mm) they should fit the Ultra. That’s something to consider. I didn’t have to buy extra bands luckily enough. I do wish though that they lower down the price next round, and make a #spacegray or #matteblack colour.

Thank you for testing it out and really give a detail in depth review Brian! I still have my Apple Watch 4 and it’s still going strong. However,I got into marathon training the past year and I don’t know if the Apple Watch 4 could last a full marathon. I only have gone up to 20 miles run with it and it’s already down to 20% so yes I’m still debating on getting the Ultra before my first marathon race. FYI, I do run with a Garmin also but I like to fill out those rings and compete with my friends, so I can’t leave my Apple Watch behind.

I should be more active, lol - but yes after the 4 (I had the original and the 2) that was still fine but getting a bit slow and lacking in the battery department, the ultra was the first upgrade I wanted to get.. it is certainly not cheap, but materials, built quality, battery, the screen make it all worth for me. From the first Apple Watch to today with the ultra I wear the watches every day, only watch I own and would replace in a heartbeat if necessary, and today a replacement would be another ultra. My only concern, I have a few micro scratches on the front titanium from bumps into tables etc. But that was also the case with my (aluminium 4)… I bought the watch in the first week of availability and it has not misbehaved since, the os is very stable and mature - one of the best items I own..

I only have the ultra and I used everyday. I feel it more comfortable than my previews series 7. Love the battery life, no more worries about battery life. I mainly use the ocean band compared with the others, I feel it more confortable.

I did, but what could I do? I had no tools, and I didn't want to injure it even more. Also, you're not supposed to touch turtles. It was very tangled and had already cut into him/her. I didn't want to do even more damage and it was at least safe in the Bay from major predators.

My ultra has lasted basically 2 days with no charge so anything longer then that it’s clear that people do micro charges during the day because there’s no way unless the watch is not used at all it can get 3 days mine is at 56% which will last me the night for my sleep track but I’ll need to charge it in the morning 3 day old Watch so brand new

Also if you can make this it‘s still a shame. The garmin watches with are cheaper with always on can last in always on mode 7 days but without batterie saving mode. And without battery saving mode more than 20 days🙂. I stay and love my garmin🙂👌🏾. I was running once and after 5 days i still have 80% left. I can wear it for a week and do 3 runs and still have 50%👌🏾

Thanks for the indepth review. The SE, Version 8, and Ultra rundowns really helped. I'm on a slow upgrade path using Apple Watch Version 4 (upgraded from version 1). I really love the looks and screen size of the Ultra. The added GPS radios, and the ability to retrace your path back are features I want. I'm waiting for the second Ultra release to make up my mind on how much I want to spend. I'm curious if they add features or change the form factor based on tech developments and user feedback.

Yea I’m one of the watch wearer’s that has started out with the SE then went to a series 7, then when the Ultra came out went ahead and grabbed one. It was mainly because of the battery life. I like to track my sleep and get in a good workout a day and not have to worry about finding time to put it on the charger all the time. That was always something in the back of my mind when owning the previous watches in the past. Thanks for sharing the video this was awesome to see some real world testing and amazing scenery as well. Look forward to the next video. Thanks again 🤙

Great video. No regrets getting mine. I switched from the Galaxy Fold and Watch 5 pro to the 14 Pro Max and Ultra. Samsung does good as well but the battery life with the 5 pro wasn’t good and had nothing but trouble with the LTE. No issues as of yet with the Ultra in regards to LTE. It has been a pleasure to leave without my phone and still have connectivity. Battery life is amazing. It’s not a Garmin but Garmin watches are nowhere near as smart as the Ultra.

Brian I can’t thank you enough for your reviews! Recently broke my Garmin fénix after one shallow scuba dive. I’m pro Garmin watches due to their battery life and real sport and hiking features. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is simpler but it works and it wont die after a dive. I looked at the Garmin dive watch but its sport features are more limited compared to a fénix and the Apple Watch beats it. Years and years later I’m still watching your reviews to make purchasing decisions. #bteazy

With all due respect, white man problems to charge series 8 once every 1 and a 1/2 days, as it takes 40 - 50 minutes to fully charge, the time taking a shower and change clothes, so it’s pointless, unless you are out about 4 days or more and do not have the chance to charge the battery. We charge other tech every day and no complains, but we do complain for a watch 🤷🏻🤦🏻‍♂️???

I’m still using Series 6. I haven’t felt compelled to upgrade. The Ultra is amazing but the size alone is deal breaker. For context I did try it on at the Apple Store and it looked absolutely ridiculous on me. For a piece of tech that is both function and fashion it should look and feel comfortable as well. If they ever come out with a smaller size though I’m all in.

I’ve got the Series 2 which I’ve had from new and still works just fine with my recently acquired IPhone 14 Pro Max. It also runs all day with enough to spare battery wise. Having said that if I was to upgrade I’d get the Ultra. I don’t just see it as an extreme sports option. The durability and damage resistance are compelling reasons to go there in themselves.

@@flankman9385 I don’t believe with a series 2 it’s possible to get the battery health directly, because it doesn’t run the later WatchOS versions. I think I read somewhere there is a way of finding out with a third party app. Not sure. Suffice to say my Series 2 is still going strong generally although occasionally it has a funny five minutes where it drains fast. However if, you either let it go completely flat or restart it, the battery life is good again for a while. Pretty impressive for a device that’s nearly 7 years old!
