The fact that the Apple II couldn't handle floating point actually meant that it couldn't handle (natively, at least) decimal numbers, which is a more serious problem for financial software. The range you gave means that the Apple II stored it's numbers on two bytes or 16 bits, which was respectable for the time (I think this may be an error, because the original Apple II used an 8-bit processor).

I remember the famous “Chemistry Project” that debuted shortly after Microsoft bailed Apple out of certain bankruptcy. Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office were released with Mac-specific features, iTunes and Safari were released for Windows, and BootCamp let Macs boot into Windows without voiding a warranty. Obviously this project petered out pretty quickly; Apple started releasing its lovable-if douchebaggy-Mac vs. PC ads, both IE and Safari started to lose market share due to free and more impressive competitors, and both companies started reading each other's mail. On that note, it wasn't just Microsoft who copied Apple, as the video suggests. Microsoft brought in Media Center PCs years before Apple TV; they had Tablet PCs half a decade before the iPad; Windows let users snap windows side-by-side before iPadOS or OS X … the list goes on. It definitely went both ways, and still does.

I like Windows 7 the best and a laptop in the house still has it. I will make sure it always runs it! When I get my own computer at last im gonna try to have Windows 7 and the older version of Word at the same time if it is possible, which it just has to be somehow! Surely there is a way to DOWNgrade things! Then I could mess around with my long lost friend, that cat, again, while being on my favorite Windows version. Windows XP is my second favorite! And then my Grandpa has an even older version of Windows than Windows XP...its so cool! I never had used the operating system on apple computers before, and it doesn't look as iconic as Windows does, or maybe that is since, once again, I had never used that operating system....but it was interesting watching this video on how Microsoft ended up being rivals with Apple!

I can say that the Zune HD had a lot of potential and Microsoft should have put more care on it. They should have used Zune’s OS for their Windows Phone. So many wasted opportunities for Microsoft. And now they tried to go for ARM laptops again. The hardware is ready but if they won’t optimize their Windows 11 faster and more carefully, they will lose again. And I was so tired of that. That’s why I switched to Mac when the M1 came out after I have been using Windows since I can remember. Never regretted it at all. Never have to reinstall the OS every 6 months again (if I don’t, it will run slower and die by itself. I didn’t even download weird apps!)

Albert Paul Fetalino, The surface is shit, windows 10 is shit, there is a reason i only use that shitty OS for a few games, and do everything else on macOS, windows it is Buggy, and the GUI is horrible. never tried Azure but its probably shit, and the Xbox is also shit, Consoles except for the Switch should not be used anymore, just use your computer to game, ffs the only, ONLY Thing that microsoft has done that isn't Shit, is working together with nintendo to make cross-play a thing

It was pretty awful how Microsoft forced Apple's hand to license the "look and feel" of the Mac for future versions of Windows in 1985 by withholding the Applesoft BASIC licence if Apple did not agree. Scully had to sign that. That's why the "look and feel" lawsuit was decided in Microsoft's favour in 1994 because of that 1985 agreement. This was the same year that Microsoft purchased Apple's MacBASIC programming language for $1 and promptly discontinued it - it was sooo much better than Microsoft's version of BASIC for the Macintosh. That tidbit is in the "Revolution in the Valley" book. www.nytimes.com/1988/03/24/business/company-news-apple-and-microsoft-disclose-a-1985-pact.html
