@@MrBooklearn I thought I was the only one who holds machina to the same regard as Siamese Gish Mellon...with GATGC, Blue Skies, This Time, Stand Inside, I of, um...hello, WITH EVERY LIGHT!? It is definitely less magical and fantastic than Mellon Collie was but it would have gotten so old to stay in that "aesthetic," and so what machina did was keep the quality but seriously matured in theme and because of that, it did in sound and as I was years and years older, I needed that maturing along with me or it would have seemed like a marketing scheme to me to stick with the old and I would have lost respect. So it was a perfect transition and it was awesome.

marvinshenk - it's true, all genres are good but the Eighties still ruined a lot of good music with excess reverb, keyboards and really harsh-sounding mixes. Over-treated album production with no soul. And I'm a fan of Def Leppard Pyromania and some Cars albums, so gimmicky production doesn't have to suck, it can be cool.

I just saw the Pumpkins during the Oh So Bright tour, They were fantastic, and never sounded better. I think Billy Corgan is one of the greatest writer/song writers of our time, period. I agree. I just listened to 'monunemts' again for the 1st time in ages. This video helped me remember the band ZWAN he formed after breaking up with the Pumpkins. I still love that song HONESTLY. It was a beautiful catchy pop song. He seemed so damn happy in that video. Perhaps he should have been honest with himself and followed that path.
@henrythegreatamerican81366 жыл бұрын
Or maybe that's the point he is trying to make towards the end of this video. The industry tried defining him a certain way by placing him in the "grunge" scene. And songs like HONESTLY didn't get the radio attention it deserved because the industry defined his music a certain way and the song didn't fit that image.

I felt that with Adore, where he expressed an interest to go in a more electronic direction (something that was apparent to anybody familiar with many of Mellon Collie's b-sides). I genuinely wanted him to pursue that path, especially after hearing 'Eye' and got the impression he followed with Machina because he felt he had to do, rather than because he wanted to at the time. As such, that album always sounded forced to me and was the beginning of his creative nadir. It'll be interesting to see if he is able to reignite the classic spark again after all these years.

This is actually just my 2 interview i've watched with Lars. And look it's like this for me. I know metallica better than smashing pumpkins or tool.... I'm sure if I heard 1 of their songs that I'd know that I am familiar with it or that band. And have no clue who was playing a song that I liked. I didn't know that I was a shinedown fan until last yr. Lol It is what it is right? My point is that all my life I've been inspired to write songs or stories or whatever. Never have yet picked up a guitar to self teach myself and try to write. Maybe I'll do it after this. I totally get what they are saying. My main reason for commenting is THIS Fukn Interview is da BOMB!! This is the very best interview I've ever seen or heard. It's real, it's Music Legend interviewer hearing how another music legend and peer was inspired by watching the other before his own time . Flattering the elder with his personal experience and what it was like from his p.o.v . I love this interview cause there's so much going on here. I'm going to go get Acquainted with both tool and smashing pumpkins right now.. can't wait to hear their new.. And if ur reading this right now... I hope you have the best day ever.
