This is why intelligent people like Billy Corgan are not the mainstream anymore, major label puppets are told what to sing, what to say, what to wear, don’t write, don’t play, not allowed to have an opinion on real things that matter. Long live Billy Corgan.

Im currently deep in a Smashing Pumpkins rabbit hole. I loved them as a teenager and now im reliving and researching the band, music, history. This dude is responsible for some of my favourite music, and influenced and worked w some of my fav artists. This is so cool and suchhhhh good timing. Hes right about the depth of an artist too. Art that lasts comes from a genuine place, not from a 'lets pander and do anything for a dime'. Seeing different sides to an artist, looking through archives, old candid pics, random interations and colaborations. Different artistic projects even. I think all of that plus true love of art and creation is what makes a great long lasting artist. I like how he explains things bc i think like that. Im autistic and the sensitivity, pattern recognition, thinking in colours are all things that i experience when i create art and live life. Especially in art though. Music is a language of patterns and colour, its communication, its needs no words. It reaches everyone! ❤

Honestly i dont know if it's because it was the 90s and there were many types of voices but i didnt really realise Corgan's voice was unusual until people pointed it out to me years after i'd first got into the band. It turns out i had a few favorite bands at the time whose singers also had unusual voice, be they Robert Smith in the Cure or Brian Molko in Placebo. I think having a unique voice is a strength, not a weakness.

Billy singing is like trying to get into beer as a teen, at first it's kind of rough but eventually you start to enjoy it and get into the nuances of it. I actually think it also inspires people to just try singing no matter what their voice sounds like, which is kind of what Kurt did for people playing guitar. Same with Basquiat's paintings, they unlock a freedom in people by colouring outside of the lines. Our personal imperfections is the true beauty of life.

That song and Silverfuck were the highlights of the Austin show for me in 2022. What I always loved about SP was the insane diversity of the songs. No other band I can think of besides maybe the Beatles would put XYU and Tales of a Scorched Earth next to 33 and Lily on the same disc. The White Album comparison is accurate.

I think that's kind of an inner power that all truly great artists have, whether they are conscious of it or not. Great artists are energy conduits: they know how to instill emotions in those who listen to them, and not just with their art. Maybe I'm overanalyzing your comment and you simply reacted to his general mood, but I genuinely think this.

I think it was I'm not sure, Drown. I'm fixing to try to basketball diaries ending art production because there's such a huge history in Muscle Shoals Alabama. I'll do the work. I loved SP since rhinoceros came out on 120 minutes then between Gish and Siamese Dream but that performance for Disarm where it was sooooo electric and expression. That moment got me. Thank you for being an inspiration. Thank you for stopping and playing at that bridge.

Consider also that an artist does not choose their life - the art chooses them. As with Billy, if one is consumed with their art they will find a way. Whether waiting tables or a full time job in business - an artist can and will find their path. It will likely be filled with struggle but if it is non negotiable to be an artist …. the artist will find their way.

Personally I think Gish/Siamese Dream/Mellon Collie are the must listen albums, Adore and Machina have a few songs that are really good, but as a whole they're not my favorite. My next favorite would be Zeitgeist which seemed like a return to the classic "alternative rock with a heavy metal edge" sound they created in the mid 90's, it has lots of really cool shredding guitar riffs, plus it's got Jimmy back on drums kicking major ass. Their albums past 2007 were not really memorable to me. 🤷‍♂

4:57 Note to Billy Corgan: Stars don't always belong in the sky, my friend. You are human after all. You seem to have suffered another Narcissistic injury by being humanized or added to the rest of the world with, "Yo Bill!". He is lowkey looking for the red-carpet treatment all the time. Ps. In case anyone didn't know, Billy seems to have a problem with being "Ordinary". Hence the line from "Muzzle": "I fear that I am ordinary, just like everyone..." He stated this fear many years ago. It highlights his Narcissism, a lot.

I was a huge Pumpkins fan when I was growing up and I always found Billy to be a pretty interesting and respectable guy. I always want to like his new music, but I haven't been able to get into most of the newer albums. I thought the 2007 "Zeitgeist" album he made with the original Pumpkins drummer (Jimmy Chamberlin) was quite good and memorable, that was the last Pumpkins album that really stuck with me. I think they did a lot of things right with that album in how they brought the music back to the classic "alternative rock with a heavy metal edge" style and how it felt like all the songs fit together as one musical experience. Obviously music is subjective and we all aren't going to like the same things, but I'd love if Billy took the music in that direction again.

I really appreciate Billy having the humanity and humility to give the underdog a chance. I see a lot of sides to him, whether good or bad, there’s no denying Billy is a very special person. Not to mention he is some kind of prodigy. I love that he hates the new star wars movies ❤

I gotta say dude, you are a REALLY good interviewer. I’ve seen pretty much every single Billy interview online and this might be the best (with the Lars Ulrich interview coming at a now, second place.) You really have a way of disarming your guest (no pun intended.) 😂 Very positive and genuine. Not canned questions at all. You can really tell you are curious and interested in the creative process. Sometimes Billy has a tendency to put his guard up and play a character or persona. But he seems totally real and laid back here. Excellent stuff man! And SUPER funny. I found myself pausing it because I was seriously laughing hard. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 I’m kind of curious, did you prepare a lot before this interview? Were you nervous? Peace from Louisiana. ✌🏼

I remember way back when a friend handed me their first album saying that they reminded him of The Doors, I'm a huge Doors fan, they sounded nothing like The Doors! I thought it was ok, but never gave them a second thought. A few years later when they blew up I was flored! Never saw it coming, never became a fan really, but I like several cuts.

Birth mark on his left hand he as stated he self conscious about. One of his first bands when he was a kid he named “The mark” after his. He also references it in lyrics for song ‘Rocket’ where he sings “the mark I’ve borne … a mark of scorn to you “

@@Grigsy right but it's still be hella interesting to hear from her -- she's one that doesn't have many interviews -- the interviews that she has, she's normally getting talked over by Billy and doesn't have more than 5min of her speaking -- so I'd like to hear from her now

12:13 we have all been told that we are "too sensitive" but that's not true, we just have a different sensitivity that can sometimes be totally inexplicable. We play music, we have learned, studied and sweated music. It's something similar to this: "Therefore every scribe who hath been made a disciple to the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old" the text and words are not that important,It's really hard when it's true and it's not just about music
