This is why intelligent people like Billy Corgan are not the mainstream anymore, major label puppets are told what to sing, what to say, what to wear, don’t write, don’t play, not allowed to have an opinion on real things that matter. Long live Billy Corgan.

Im currently deep in a Smashing Pumpkins rabbit hole. I loved them as a teenager and now im reliving and researching the band, music, history. This dude is responsible for some of my favourite music, and influenced and worked w some of my fav artists. This is so cool and suchhhhh good timing. Hes right about the depth of an artist too. Art that lasts comes from a genuine place, not from a 'lets pander and do anything for a dime'. Seeing different sides to an artist, looking through archives, old candid pics, random interations and colaborations. Different artistic projects even. I think all of that plus true love of art and creation is what makes a great long lasting artist. I like how he explains things bc i think like that. Im autistic and the sensitivity, pattern recognition, thinking in colours are all things that i experience when i create art and live life. Especially in art though. Music is a language of patterns and colour, its communication, its needs no words. It reaches everyone! ❤

That song and Silverfuck were the highlights of the Austin show for me in 2022. What I always loved about SP was the insane diversity of the songs. No other band I can think of besides maybe the Beatles would put XYU and Tales of a Scorched Earth next to 33 and Lily on the same disc. The White Album comparison is accurate.

Honestly i dont know if it's because it was the 90s and there were many types of voices but i didnt really realise Corgan's voice was unusual until people pointed it out to me years after i'd first got into the band. It turns out i had a few favorite bands at the time whose singers also had unusual voice, be they Robert Smith in the Cure or Brian Molko in Placebo. I think having a unique voice is a strength, not a weakness.

Billy singing is like trying to get into beer as a teen, at first it's kind of rough but eventually you start to enjoy it and get into the nuances of it. I actually think it also inspires people to just try singing no matter what their voice sounds like, which is kind of what Kurt did for people playing guitar. Same with Basquiat's paintings, they unlock a freedom in people by colouring outside of the lines. Our personal imperfections is the true beauty of life.

What Billy said about AI writing songs being like the new ass shot- It's already happening. Social media "stars" are paying computer programmers to write them songs. I could even argue that Metallica's latest album "72 Seasons" sounds like they got AI to write the perfect Metallica Album if you mixed "all their most successful eras" Problem is with AI music, there's no humanity/angst/human emotions to it. Yes it ticks the boxes, but it's a pale facsimile

Interesting observation about metallicas 72 seasons. It sounds Metallica thrash from late 80’s /90’s… but the soul of it seems off . Your right it’s good the songs I’ve listened but no staying power like songs from justice or master. It’s weird hard to explain or put your foot on it … but the AI makes a lot of sense

4:57 Note to Billy Corgan: Stars don't always belong in the sky, my friend. You are human after all. You seem to have suffered another Narcissistic injury by being humanized or added to the rest of the world with, "Yo Bill!". He is lowkey looking for the red-carpet treatment all the time. Ps. In case anyone didn't know, Billy seems to have a problem with being "Ordinary". Hence the line from "Muzzle": "I fear that I am ordinary, just like everyone..." He stated this fear many years ago. It highlights his Narcissism, a lot.

Billy’s a really bright guy but I think he overthinks things and complicates matters unnecessarily. His ego is running the show too and he basically says as much without directly acknowledging his ego (gonna try and find the exact time mark) Personally, I think anything that comes from ego falls really flat when compared to things that come out of authenticity. This explains SP’s diminishing returns over the last 15 years. There’s still some good stuff in there, but as a whole, it’s no comparison to the 90s and 2000s output. Yes - I think all of Billy’s 2000s work is great: Zwan, Future Embrace, Zeitgeist. All great pieces of work. All the last 5 albums have been worse and worse, especially the last 3. Cyr and Shiny & OSB were both pretty terrible and lifeless. Atum has some really good moments but overall, it doesn’t do it for me. Just sounds like it came out of a computer instead of musicians making music. The no producer over the last couple records is a problem

Funny story about "we only come out at night". I've actually loved that song from the start since '95. There are many great tunes in MC that would have deserved more attention (like e.g. By Starlight). Not all great songs become instant hits. They can still be just as great. SP definitely has more than plenty of great songs in their discography.

Personally I think Gish/Siamese Dream/Mellon Collie are the must listen albums, Adore and Machina have a few songs that are really good, but as a whole they're not my favorite. My next favorite would be Zeitgeist which seemed like a return to the classic "alternative rock with a heavy metal edge" sound they created in the mid 90's, it has lots of really cool shredding guitar riffs, plus it's got Jimmy back on drums kicking major ass. Their albums past 2007 were not really memorable to me. 🤷‍♂

"We only come out at night" was always a beautiful song , when I was a teenager me and my friends had a sound system in my garage so one night we dressed up in those full body Halloween suits and blasted that song and danced out in the street, people thought we were fucking nuts

"once a younger artist figures out a way to game the system, they're not going to spend 10,000 hours like i did" true words have never been spoken. this is applicable to anyone in their creative or professional craft.

Do you think if I burned Atum in a pile of autumn leaves it will transform into an actual consistent rock album?

Empires at 3? Don't see that at all... So overrated. Not into the Embracer, Night Moves, Canary Trainer, Pacer types ...? Spellbinding, Gold Mask and the title track ATUM (especially the orchestral version is amazing)?

That's a dope list. 1. spellbinding, 2. avalanche, 3. moss, 4. harmageddon, 5. To The Grays 6. beguiled, 7. steps in time, 8. empires, 9. the good in goodbye, 10. to the grays,

I love the point Billy makes about before when social media took off how people would walk up to him and ask him do you prefer Mr. Corgan, or Bill, and now with social media especially these days it does really seem like people can go up to famous people and interact with them as if they already know them.
