I just bought the newer 8 year and I’m amazed at the quality and flavor for the price. I will always have this in my home now for when I want to take a break from my bourbon. Delicious! I also have the 12 and the 21 year Appleton Estate. My favorite aged rum. Cheers!

Appleton need to create middle ground for bourbon drinkers. Make it 10 year but 50% alcohol and charge something between 8 and 12 . Maybe 34$. Still love 8 and 12.

You know a friend of mine was thinking Appleton should create a cask strength version to the rums they have now. Cask Strength being 50% to 60%

@@ReadySetRum Absolutely. I would defenatley buy it. But from what I see from alot of reviews rum drinkers or reviewers find even 40% hot where I drink most of my bourbon in 100 proof or more and I don't find it hot at all. But yea cask or 100 proof midline would be awesome.

Have to say my go to drink to many years to find ..The Appleton reserve blend with coke got me hooked The perfect blend of molasses. carmel, oak And a nice deep richness..A few times as a gift people that know me Would give a bottle of signature blend Or other It's nice too. But Appleton i find had a range of flavors. Instead of one line with slight twists Like other Brands going from Rum to "spiced rum" In my Area it is hard to find the Reserve blend. The one day I seen the 8 year And took it to try With this i have honed in on what i want in a drink. Now would i mix a 12 year or 21 year rum with a coke ..No! .. There is some unforgiveable wall that is unwritten to do so..Anyone that wants to set it right 1 1/2 shot of 8 year to 1 can of coke And 3 ice cubes.. Thanks for the video

Real good rum at this price. Much better this than the previous one. I use to like this rum then they changed it about 4 or five years ago then I hated it. I think they were trying to create distance between the reserve and the 12. That didn't work in my mind and they created a mediocre rum. But this new rum is going back to what the old reserve was. I see they upped the abv also to 43% which is great. A little more vanilla notes than I like but most rums at this price point will overwhelm you with vanilla notes.

You are right, not much vanilla on this one, and the higher abv helps when on the rocks.

Doctor Bird is a sourced Jamaican rum blend which I think is interesting. It has a Moscatel cask finish (I suspect they weren't wet casks). The brand is Two James, based in Michigan. Give it a try. -Alex
