I expect Windows development was continued longer than expected as there was still quite a significant number of education and business customers using Clarisworks for Windows into the Early 2000's. I remember using Clarisworks in the late 90's in school before they swapped to MS Office around 2001.
@pap3rw8 Жыл бұрын
This makes sense. I also used Claris/AppleWorks in grade school in the 1990’s. By the time I was in middle school, it’d been replaced by Office X (but was still installed for accessing old files). If I had known about the Windows version, I might’ve used it at home for the sake of compatibility.

I used both the original ClarisWorks for Apple (1.0 and 3.0) and ClarisWorks 2.0 for Windows 3. The Apple Claris versions were vastly superior to what was available in the PC world at that time as WordPerfect and Microsoft word processors lacked functionality or required more user tweaking to get the same results. ApplWorks is awesome all the modules work well with each other, the most powerful part is probably the database though it is flat file it has great interface and using spreadsheet tools you can work in table view and the drawing tools set up some amazing custom entry screens and stylish reports (like print merge certificates), and also mail merge into the word processor, etc. The drawing tool is really nice, thigh the PICT format is not compatible with much anymore, thugh you could print to PDF and the convert from there... The cwk files are cross compatible with the Mac version of AppleWorks. Claris Works 5 is the previous version of Apple Works which is version 6. Was a shame it got cancelled, Apple replaced it with iWork which retained some of the features but lost the database and other most of the coolet bits of interoperability.

When I worked IT at my old school district summer of 2009 we were still installing AppleWorks 6 on our Windows machines because some teachers used it. I think it was mostly to open older files dating back to when the school had Macintosh computers with System 6/7 and ClarisWorks back in the early to mid 90s, though I wouldn't be surprised if some old teacher was still creating new worksheets/documents in it at the time either

clarris works was like a slightly watered down version of Appleworks. It was free, if my memory is correct. they were both good office applications. Simpletext was the best, for the fact that you could highlight text and have it read back to you, and it even came with about a dozen voices to choose from! For many many years after, tv shows would use simpletext, for generating "computerized voices". Till this day, there hasn't been a program that made it that easy, (and that good), of having a text editor that could read back text, without special software. Simpletext was similar to Notepad in windows. please do a video on Simpletext!

@JeffreyPiatt2 жыл бұрын
Even Microsoft abandoned Times new Roman in modern versions of Microsoft office the modern default font is Calabli
@drygnfyre7 ай бұрын
@@JeffreyPiatt This was likely due to more up-to-date usability testing that concluded sans-serif is easier to read on screen, while serif is generally better when printed. And given more and more material is digital, it made sense to make the change. But they introduced numerous new fonts in addition to Calibri, I believe Cambria was the serif counterpart.
