I have a very low power fridge and it cannot tolerate lots of opening and closing of the doors. It would not be great for a family with lots of kids for that reason. It costs about $4.50 a month to operate, which is good. I'd love it if it had a glass door .. so I could see what I may need from the store without leaving open the door. The knock to turn on the light thing ... not necessary, but the glass door is a winner!

I did not spring for door in door crazy $$$ options. Sometimes my answer to kids is "If you can see it - Yes!" I do like the craft ice, though I don't really use it, and I know ice makers are the fail point.

Couldn't agree more. If appliances were built to last then you need to find some way to entice (trick?) people into buying something new. Wifi in appliances is really silly. Software/firmware updates and possible status or human-readable diagnostic info seem like the only reasonable use cases -then again, if there's that much "smart" features that allow for updates then we are already in gimmicky territory. There's no blooming way I am going to remote start devices that are going to burn stuff or turn on water lines.

100% agree. Features that you don't use are money you're spending that isn't going toward reliability. Appliances are more expensive, and less reliable than ever. That's the environmental impact, by the way. It's not energy usage, it's in the waste of land-filling appliances ever few years. If EPA is going to fix that, they need to mandate a 20 year warranty. That would do more for the planet, and our pocketbooks, than the silliness they've done about saving a half gallon of water here or there. Anyway, love your content!

The main reason why I even bothered to connect my heat pump dryer to the IOT app is because the manufacturer (Candy) decided to do a front panel menu system that resembles an Ikea manual - You'd not be able to tell the difference between whites/ coloured/ cotton/ synthetics/ mixed on the selector without actually referencing the manual. An advantage to this is that you can use the smart app to configure the load so you get an estimated time to completion upfront and can plan a grocery run or other house chores around it. Running it from the front panel will only update the timer closer to the end of the cycle because it starts with the assumption of a maximum cycle load. The only reason why I bought it was that it's half the price of the closest competition by price. Ditto for the microwave oven from them - we've had it for years now and my wife still doesn't know how to operate the darn thing because it defaults to Programme mode rather than power/ time mode (again, only cryptic symbols on the front panel). At least their microwave was dirt cheap and we don't use it too often enough to justify the price jump to an LG/ Samsung/ Toshiba. The smarthome feature on my LG washer is much preferred as it integrates with Google Home and gives a notification on the speakers around the house when the wash cycle is done. As with the dryer, the ThinQ app also gives a time indication of the expected completion. Added advantage is also being able to download custom cycles when you've the odd load combination to wash.
@BoulevardHome Жыл бұрын
Having those estimated times for completion certainly come in handy, and that's super cool about the Google Home integration. I didn't know that was a thing! Thanks for sharing

Delayed start and remote start aren't just gimmicks, the could be very dangerous or possibly deadly. Read the manual and the manufacturer will tell you not to leave run anything except a fridge or freezer when no one is home or if you're asleep. Fire departments tell you the same. And if your house burns down and you didn't comply with the manufacture's operating procedure then guess what... you're not covered. Now go and clean the lint out of your dryer. You're welcome.

I have a big problem with your arguments. you'Re right many machines have different programs and you saying, for what?! - You using 1 or 2 thats all. this is also true. but the usuall program is the all purpose cycling. they basically everything a bit but nothing realy good. If you have stain, you need a stain remove program. you're a office worker?! Well you never will use it anyway. but no company on this earth will produce different product to fit a tiny group of persons. thats why many machines have different things and most of them you won't use it. that ok, trust me. you're a avarage customer you don't have to use every feature of your household machine

A few points - Wi-Fi can make a difference if you have time of use electricity prices. Electricity is not the same price all the time around most of the world. Yes you can use delay start, but you can also use your phone to start the washer/dishwasher whenever the electricity is cheaper. We don't have a wifi connected range but my wife would love to be able to preheat the oven before we get back from work. Why American ovens don't have the broil and bake heating elements work all at once? It is really annoying they don't do that. What does normal/regular cycle mean on a washer? It does not make any sense. European washers don't have such nonsense cycle for example.
@BoulevardHome Жыл бұрын
The electricity point is a good one! A few others have mentioned that as well. As for most newer washers, the normal/regular cycle is just the cycle that is going to use the least amount of and coldest water, but units might vary so you can always check your owners manual for what exactly yours does.
