I had a love/hate relationship with my over the range microwave, I loved how much space it saved in my tiny kitchen but it captured almost nothing. As a chef, I hated this. When I was able to remodel, I put in a high cfm hood with outside venting and great capture, it's amazing not having grease on the cabinets and not having the house smell like food from yesterday.

Definitely never a recirculating hood with a gas cooktop/range/oven. Gas anything must be vented to the outside due to CO being unfilterable. But for electrical or induction, especially for new or remodeled homes built to high energy standards with mechanical ventilation, recirculating hoods do make sense. Helps to not get grease into that mechanical ventilation system, too.

One thing to keep in mind is that for us in Colorado and high altitude areas, dual fuel cooks better in the oven than all gas. Temp fluctuations are a lot less in the oven in a dual fuel.

My low profile whirlpool over the stove microwave hood combination is very well liked because it's only (I think) 11 inches in height from top to bottom which is all you need in a microwave all that wasted space. You could put a full size dinner plate in there and you don't need it to be tall. You just need it to be wide enough to fit a dish with no problems. After I got mine, two other friends decided to get the same one because they like the fact that it wasn't so mammoth on top of the stove. Not sure if this is the model that you're talking about. It's less tall than the traditional ones. Let me just clarify, you keep talking about the CFM's That's if you actually cook if you have a show kitchen like I have and don't cook but you do heat up food occasionally this low profile microwave is just perfect for that without being an eyesore.

My last 2 refrigerators lasted 4 years and couldn't be fixed. They leaked their freon out. These companies making JUNK that only lasts 4 years is totally unacceptable.

is Fulgor Milano considered as those "Italian" style ranges? Really on the edge of getting their 48'' induction range, from the book all specs look wonderful.

Don't know much about Fulgor...None are sold around here. Saw it at a show. Not bad looking

What if you already have a 16 yr old Jennaire w/downdraft & ready to replace it. It is positioned on the island w/granite - so no option except downdraft. What would be my best choice & center downdraft or back?
@YaleAppliance16 ай бұрын
The middle has vent next to the front burners, while the vents in back have more CFM. Pick your poison. In your application pick the easiest to install.

What is the difference between the "12-inch Microhood" (the first unit) and the low-profile microwaves which have been out for years (which you mention later)? Even though you apparently hate them, can you supply a URL?

Depth mostly....The new one fits seamlessly with the cabinets and is a complete vent fail

We have black appliances and a black stainless refrigerator. There is a chip in the black stainless but it’s doing fine as we’ve been careful. So we need a dishwasher. Our 23 year old whirlpool is showing its age in cleaning quality. What black dishwasher in your top 5 would you go with?

I was laughing at your comments about downdrafts. We had a 1960's kitchen in which we had to replace an old JennAir. Due to some odd construction quirks, we had to go with another gas downdraft. Supposedly the burners/vent had been redesigned to eliminate the suction of the flame toward the vent...what nonsense! It still pulled the flame and never vented well, either. Somebody else's problem now as we sold the house!!
