Applying 30+ Ceramic Coatings To 1 Car | Part 2 | Which One Will Win?

Update- I’ve been talking to the folks at Meguiars and their best assessment is that some of the coatings from the adjacent panels cross contaminated the M888 section and that explains the high spots. Their testing showed that high spots could be removed even a week after application so they said it’s impossible that I could have gotten a high spot that quickly and their only guess is that it’s crosslinked with the Mohs or DIY 8 yr coatings by and created that issue

While I didn't have high spots, I applied m888 to 2 vehicles. My daily driver truck, and my wife's SUV. On the truck I followed the application directions to a t, and it has already failed on the lower panels. Even DIY water spot remover didn't revive. Everytime it's driven in the rain the lower panels clog. On my wife's SUV, I waited 2 hours and applied Ethos resist as a topper. It is still doing great one hers. Drive it in the rain and it looks like it's just had a wash. No clogging etc. I regret using it.... I like using their spray coating topped with Griots 3-n-1 after 2 hours. I have done 3 family vehicles that way and they are still looking like day one.

@@attention2detailswchelsea yes, this is what I gathered as well because it happened to me but it’s not just from other coatings, oil from skin, sweat… virtually anything on the panel will cause that… where any other coating you wouldn’t notice it… it’s a great coating but this could really put someone in a pinch

I am a weekend mobile detailer, and use various coatings. I didn't go with a super long term coating on my car. I chose to use Mohs topped with Can Coat and it's excellent! I put it on last summer and it's still solid.

@@natecram6230Today i washed mine for the first time since two weeks and i must say the slicknes is amazing (i applied all of Gyeon coatings many times besides Mohs and it destroys them all) and the water beading and sheeting is mind blowing. I'm really happy with it, also the instalation was super easy it's my favorite coating from all Gyeon lineup! I am just wandering about the durability of it :)

As someone who has recently gone down the rabbit hole in detailing, it’s awesome to see videos like these. The tough part about detailing is that I keep buying dozens of products (for research) just to find out which one I like best. For your follow up video you should just keep it simple and share your top 3 and the one you would apply to your car if you could pick one at the time of the video. Great idea and very informative video. Incidentally , I sort of did a "panel at a time" test with some consumer spray stuff. Panel at a time.is really quite useful test. You can observe the difference through the "wear cycle". There is a wonderful follow up video with the first wash. Again great idea, definitely subscribed!

I hope that the crosslinking the Meguairs one with mohs or DIY won't hinder the results, I just applied two coats of mohs and topped it with cancoat evo last week and I'm hoping Mohs will perform well on this test! Thank you Chels for all your hard work and dedication, keep it up, we need you :)

Awesome test!!! I have been using ADS Pro for my 5 yr coating and have not been disappointed! Time will tell! I like that it is not easily clogged and when it does it is easy to unclog! My go to prior was Kronos. It is a great coating and very chemical resistant! Just clogs a little easier then ADS Pro. Curious to see how the others preform for you! Especially C6! Thank you for sharing!!!

Cool video! Though I'm seeing for the 1st time 4 months AFTER the fact!!🙄 Anyway, I agree that Meguiars has a great line of products. I've only been detailing cars for 5 months, but I find their Hyper Dressing and Last Touch Detail Spray are crucial components to my detail work. Didn't know that they had a ceramic spray in their "Ultimate" line. Good to know! Again, great video and thanks for posting!!

Excited to follow the series and see how these perform! After initial impressions, which coatings would you suggest for roughly $100 or less, best water behavior, slickness and ease of install. Which 3 or 5 would be your top recommendations at this point, I have a car I’d like to coat in the next week or so (I has used a few coatings before so it wouldn’t necessarily have to be a foolproof coating)

I’d recommend using whatever topper the coating company you’re using as it will strengthen the coating. Plus beadmaker is known for static issues

Mixing shouldn’t be a problem, but you’re more than likely need to polish the entire entire panel and recoat it as most ceramic coatings will not allow you to top it once it is past an hour or two after fresh application.

In my opinion with these 5,6,7 etc year coatings. Do people really maintain their cars for these coatings to last that long? Is it a marketing concept?

Some do yes but most trade it in before that time is up but the more durable coatings perform better so for some they’d rather the peace of mind knowing it should last however long they own the vehicle. Most 2-3 yr coatings fail at 18 months. Most 4-5 coatings fail around that 3 yr mark I’ve found

That Meg’s applicator is comically unnecessary. They can say what they want about the high spot, but the amount of product you had to use for one section was crazy. For Quartz Pro, if I see sweating then I’ve applied it too thick and gets overly tacky. I have seen it haze quickly, but I test the wipe-off. If it doesn’t smear, good to go. Thanks for showing your audience trials and tribulations for each coating. These are high quality, competitive products. It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out!
