For those still having trouble finding the applicator she is talking about in the video, look up "Foam Bonnet". If you are looking for one that looks exactly like hers, Black and Decker make one that appears to be identical. They are commonly used with orbital buffers/polishers for working on cars. This means you can also find them at auto parts stores. They can also come in yellow or black with varying degrees of density and can be made of other materials as well (like the wool one she mentions within the video).

Hi! Thanks for the video! I'm using the same brand of clear wax on a drumset restoration project. I stained the drums, applied multiple coats of poly, then sanded to a baby-smooth matte finish and then applied the wax. I waited a couple of hours and then I stumbled on this video, while reading the comments I started to panic because like others I was also gonna wait 24h before buffing because that's what it says on the can!!! so after that I immediately started buffing using a microfiber cloth for polishing, it's turning out quite nicely, however there are some weird spots that kinda get glossy at first, but if I rub for too long in one spot then it gets dull and matte again.. could I have rubbed off the wax there? Or do those spots have too much wax on? I can't tell. Should I keep buffing? Should I apply another coat of wax tomorrow?

How long do you wait before adding your second coat of wax? Also I thought you had to wait 24 hours before buffing the wax off? If not that would save me a ton of time.

I usually wait a day before I add a second coat of wax BUT I buff almost immediately with the Anne Sloan wax. I recently changed wax brands. I now LOVE LOVE LOVE Maison Blanche's line of wax. Much easier to apply and it's so easy to buff. I'll include a link of my review of the their wax: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGbClJWubZdmbsU

Thank you so much for this video! I am working on bedroom furniture and dragging my feet on the waxing part as this is my first chalk paint project. The information you’ve provided is very helpful! Do you find an issue with temperature for waxing? I have a different brand clear wax to use (not sure if that matters) and the furniture is in my garage with temperatures down in the 30/40’s. When I painted the furniture I lucked out with great weather but now winter has set in. Should I bring the furniture in the house to wax? Thank you again!
@madelinejeanantiquesrestor90743 жыл бұрын
I made this tutorial a few years back and I now only use Maison Blanche wax. What a difference! First, this brand of wax goes on MUCH EASIER. I apply it with a cheap chip brush. I let it sit for 15-30 minutes and then I buff. Long gone are the days of feeling like my arm was going to fall off. I recently did another tutorial on this brand of wax. You can see how easy it is to apply. Regarding temperatures...I always read the back of the can and it should stipulate the ideal temp to apply the wax. 30/40's might be too cold.

I watched a video that said to leave the wax to dry over night before wiping it off and that’s what I did and now I’ve got white patches of excess wax that has dried. Is there anything I can do it save it?
@madelinejeanantiquesrestor90743 жыл бұрын
Oh boy! Yeah I don't know why some people have advised letting the wax dry overnight. I've never done it that way. I guess you could try to buff and buff those white patches with heavy elbow grease. The only way to remove wax is with mineral spirits.

I’m a completed newbie to painting and now would like to try some diy stuff. What is the difference in result between clear wax and clear coating (either paint or spray)? If apply on wood materials such as wood mirror frame or bathroom cabinets.
@madelinejeanantiquesrestor90744 жыл бұрын
Mingyu Chen Welcome to the world of DIY!!! When starting out it can be extremely frustrating with all the products and methods being thrown at you. To answer your first question the difference between clear wax and a topcoat like water based Polycrylic is the finish you want. Some people like the look and feel over wax. Clear wax gives off a slight sheen. Water based Polycrylic has different sheens ranging from matte to super glossy. Polycrylic gives better protection than wax. Wax sometimes needs to be reapplied every six months to a year. So basically it all depends on how the piece of furniture is going to be used really determines what type of topcoat you will ultimately put over your painted projects. You would approach a wood mirror different than bathroom cabinets just for the mere fact that a mirror once it’s hung it’s not touched much as opposed to bathroom cabinets which will probably be used multiple times during the day. Hence you will want the most durable topcoat.

I don't clean mine. I'm sure you could with mineral spirits. I replace mine every 3-4 months. I don't wax a lot of furniture. It all depends on the person. I do keep one buffer for my clear wax and one buffer for my dark wax.

Hi, do you wax and buff in sections? How dry can the wax get before buffing. Also, can I use a stain applicator to buff? (I have one at home already) And last question, is it possible to clean 400 grid sandpaper that's in sheets? Great video btw!
@madelinejeanantiquesrestor90744 жыл бұрын
Aniela Cockburn Hi there! To answer your questions....1. Yes I work in small section as I wax and buff. 2. I buff immediately after waxing. I know there are a few out there that wait 24 hours. If you do that buffing is even harder. If you want a super glossy look to your wax wait the 24 hours, more matte look buff right away. 3. A stain applicator? I’m not sure I know what you mean. Many people use a clean cloth, an old sock even to buff. I love my little blue buffer. I’m so glad you found this video helpful!

I would wait longer to start waxing. First, I normally wait a good 12-24 hours between my last coat of paint and waxing. Also I would use a separate brush just for waxing in the future. If you don't have another brush right now I would wait until your other brush is completely dry.

Erin Fetz Thank you for your questions. I work in small sections waxing and then immediately buffing the wax. You do not need to wait 24 hours. Also if you are applying multiple coats there’s really no specific wait time. Sometimes I apply my multiple coats in one sitting and other times I wait 12 hours or even a full day and apply another coat. I hope this helps.

I came here looking for tips because I did it as I believe that you did. I used chalk paint on a small table.
