Demonstration on a cobble driveway of how to apply block paving sealer by pump sprayer. Making sure enough paving sealer is used and the jointing sand is correctly in the joints.

Hi, thank for the great video. I’m in 2 mins whether to seal my drive using a roller or a sprayer. I believe a better finish will be achieved using a sprayer will no risk of the sand touching the roller and sticking to the blocks. However what is your advice when it comes to sealing near the house or windows? I wouldn’t want to find if there is a slight wind that the sealant particles end up leaving a residue on the garage door/windows or even neighbours cars. Please could you advise! Many thanks

You might be best using a small roller for the edges Hardev. Either this or use the sprayer at very low pressure around the edge, with the nozzle very close to the ground. Hope that helps. Regards, Rick@Smartseal

When you use the sealer, does it enhance the ‘salt/white markings on charcoal blocks? Any advise please?

If you have efflorescence on your charcoal blocks, ideally this should be treated before sealing. The sealer itself (samples available) will leave the blocks looking damp, generally this does disguise/mask the white marks. Hope that helps. Alex@Smartseal

You must have a sprayer with Viton seals Martin, which can handle the nature of the chemicals. We do have 3 or 4 available on our website. Regards, Rick@Smartseal

Hi Smartseal, thank you for your demostrations on using the roller and the sprayer here. In your opinion if you're on a tight budget like i am, which method would you suggest to use? And would i be better off with a solvent based or waterbased sealer? I measured our paving block driveway and it's just under 90m2. If i did it the roller way i would need to buy a roller and paint tray do the job for applying the sealer. And with the thought that i would only need to apply one coat?! And so in turn that would be less expensive doing it that way than if i was to by a sprayer and then apply 2 coats of sealer?! To me doing it by using a roller would be the cheaper option, would you agree?! And which sealer would you recommend. I do have wildlife, hedgebogs, and cats which walk over the driveway all the time.. So something which wouldn't affect them is what i'm thinking. Thank you.

Hello Becky, If you feel the job is a 'one off' you will find the roller method cheaper, if you decide to use a solvent based sealer as the sprayer would need to be a higher specification. Water based or solvent based sealers can be equally effective, you just need to choose the right one for your project. Hope that helps, Josh@Smartseal

Hi how often do you suggest we replace the sprayer? We use this 1 you use but it loses performance after 5 or 6 big jobs and needs to be pumped constantly which is a pain and needs 2 people. Thank you

Hi, Thank for this great video. I am in 2 minds whether to seal my marshallah block pavings or not. I have a rather flat drive, and in 2 or 3 places, it forms puddles when it rains. After about 30 minutes, the water drains away. The last thing I want is to stop the water from draining away. I am just wondering what would be your advice on sealing, please. Do you do sell permeable sealent?. Thnx

Hello, thanks for your feedback. Once it starts raining, the blocks and sand between the joints soon get saturated with water and become impermeable, applying sealer is not going to change this dynamic to any degree. When a drive is correctly laid, minimal 'falls' should be set during the groundwork and laying stages, to allow water to run off. Hope that helps. Josh@Smartseal
