Good attempt to explain the inexplicable! Not your fault. The actual requirements vary on the day, based on which official you see and what side of bed they got out of. I was once told that the requirement was 400,000 baht in bank AND 40,000 baht salary!!! (This was at Immigration Chaeng Wattana). Beware!

Yep, the bottom line is that all decisions are at the discretion of the immigration official who you are dealing with.

How long did it take for the extension application to get approved? Thank you. :)
@expatlivinginthailand5 ай бұрын
Hi! It always takes a month. When I apply, they give me a one month extension while the application is being processed. I'm not sure where it goes to be processed - maybe a regional office somewhere or Bangkok. Retirement visas are issued on the same day at the local office, but marriage visas undergo special processing for some reason. After a month, the visa is ready.

Yes, you can always find law offices and get someone to do it for you. Some farangs I've met pay an agent to do all their immigration paperwork, including 90 day reporting. If you have the money and want zero hassle, that's fine. The agent will probably have contacts at immigration to make the process go smoother and immigration prefer dealing with Thai speakers. My approach has always been to do things myself. It's not that difficult. First, I ask what is required and then I gather together what they ask for. I can get by in Thai, so the language doesn't phase me and it saves a lot of money. It takes quite a long time preparing the paperwork for a marriage visa, but I start a few weeks before my application and, having done it several times already, It's now quite routine. Bt40,000 is quite a lot of money and I would never pay someone that amount for something I can do myself quite easily. It's a personal decision.

WHAT?! Your 40,000 baht monthly income has to come from outside Thailand?! Absurd! How can I have foreign income if I work full-time in Thailand? I have confirmed with SIAM LEGAL (Bangkok solicitors) that Thai income is acceptable (but I have yet to test this...)
@expatlivinginthailand9 ай бұрын
If you work full-time in Thailand, presumably you have a non-B visa and a work permit. The requirements are completely different and don't require any income. This video was about non- O marriage visas. And yes, the financial requirement is Bt400k in a Thai bank account or a monthly income in excess of Bt40k, but it must come from abroad.

So my 60,000+ baht per month income in Thailand does not qualify me for a marriage visa?!@@expatlivinginthailand
