We went last week regarding the same . The IO was ok talking to my wife I might as well have not been there. But I applied for my Non O visa based on marriage with the RTE London part of this was supplying bank statements etc. the only thing that concerned her was I did not have money entering my bank account for 18 months it was pointed out I was not coming on holidays due to covid. My name is on the chanote by way of a usufruct so that was ok. But the one thing that concerned me was she said to come back 2 weeks before the stamp was up in my passport where I know it takes a month to process.

No problem with that you get a stamp under consideration that is the start of the process you could go on the last day as long as they stamp under consideration your covered, I would not recommend going on the last day because you need time to get more information if they require more information, give yourself time in dealing with immigration the rules change all the time. Thanks for your comment. Good luck with your application.

You're easy listening Les. I wish I could find advice on how to complete the Non-immigrant O application form here in the UK. It seems so ambiguous and if you get something wrong the Thai Embassy take your money and you get no visa.

@@RetiredandLivingthedream Thanks for your reply Les. I was getting bogged down with it. However I submitted my application this morning so fingers crossed. I've not found a video that clearly walks people through each question on each form for all the different types of visa, whether applying from abroad (UK in this case) or in Thailand. It might be well received. There are plenty of failed applications and the advice you get on Asean Now, for example, is sporadic. No reason why anyone should help of course, but it must cause quite a bit of anxiety, especially among the tech unsavvy.

Thanks for the video, Les. It reassures me why I get a retirement instead of a marriage visa. I am over 50 with a current passport, updated bankbook with over 800k baht in it, letter from the bank which we get on the way to the Immigration office plus the wife's house book. Sign a few forms. Pay 1900 baht visa fee. That's it. They fill out the forms and do all the photocopying. In and out of our local immigration office in less than 30 mins provided that they are not too busy. All done for another year. Very easy to do. No way am I going to do all that stuff that you have to go through for the sake of having 400k less in the bank. I enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work

Yes I agree the Retirement visa is the way to go, I changed because the Embassy stopped stamping my letter saying I earned more than 800,000 baht a year, I live on 50,000 baht so decided the marriage visa was the way to go. Yes frustrating at times but now 3 years on I think we have cracked it having all the paperwork required we keep a full copy for next year also. It is not impossible but frustration, A heated conversation with my wife and the House visit immigration officer today but everything done now. At least for another 11 months.
@ivorjohn3016
@ivorjohn3016 6 ай бұрын
the biggest problem is that different immigration offices require different things. as for the Kor ror it had to be date stamped in the same year as you are applying for the visa. what we do to give us a better chance for the following year is just take 1 copy of each into the office. when they are ok with us having got all the right paperwork in the right order they tell us to go make another copy. we make 2 copies. this gives us a reference copy for the following year that we can work from. over 12 years we have gone from it taking 2 days to it only taking a couple of hours. the last time of 90 day reporting before the new visa we get an application pack and ask them what has changed from the year before there are still some minor things on the day but nothing big

Hi Les, another great info video. I was going to take the marriage visa route, but I can see problems for us as we intend to live rent free at her mothers' house and just pay the utility bills, so won't be able to proved a rent book or any of the other housing requirements. Do you think just keeping the 800,000 baht in the bank account and going down the retirement route would be the easier option? After all, my main aim in retiring to Thailand is to live as much a stress free life as I can.
@RetiredandLivingthedream

Hi John your mother in law can do a simple tenancy agreement up it’s not difficult, then only need 40,000 baht per month or a deposit of 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account, no need to tie up 800,000 baht for 5 months a year Yes a retirement visa is a lot less paperwork’s but having a marriage visa you have a bit more power. Eg having a marriage visa at this time you were allowed to return to Thailand before anyone on a Retirement visa. It is a bit time consuming but not impossible, immigration are there to help you also. Talking with immigration they will give you what they require but they will also say Retirement Visa as it’s less paperwork for them.

Question for you sir. The part I'm stuck at is the actual marriage certificate. We were married in the US so we need to get a Thai marriage certificate. We went to the Amphur in our city and were told that we need to have the American marriage license certified by the embassy and then translated to Thai. However, the embassy does not certify marriage certificates. The marriage certificate is already certified by the state we were married in so I'm wondering if that will be good enough. Any advice on how you obtained a Thai marriage certificate?
@RetiredandLivingthedream

We got married in Thailand and I got my Thai marriage certificate translated to English and we had to get everything certified at the Ministry of foreign affairs' in Bangkok. It is the opposite way around for me, I needed this so when I curl my toes up everything is already verified and should be no problem for my wife to deal with as everything is verified and translated into English. Hope this helps.

@RetiredandLivingthedream
@RetiredandLivingthedream 7 ай бұрын
The extension rules are gender-neutral, except where specifically mentioned otherwise. You are a foreign spouse of a Thai national, Police Order 777/2551, rule 2.18(3) “in the case of a spouse”. The additional clause (6) applies only if the spouse is the husband of a Thai national, ie it does not apply to the wife of a Thai national. The requirements for the non-O visa are also gender-neutral. Basically, it is for the purpose of visiting family but if you want to be specific you can say that it is to visit your husband. That is the key difference - the 400k requirement does not apply to you. So yes it is easier. PR is not automatic but the path can be shorter - although paperwork will still be required and how easy this is will vary from area to area (if they know what the rules are). Unsure about PR (as to how 'shorter' the path really is) but where being married to a Thai man does help is that after 2 year of marriage (or 1 year if you have kids) you can apply for Thai citizenship without having to go and get PR first. That you can apply is one thing, but they sure do take their time in approving the applications...and you can expect many years of waiting. This is some information I have found, it is true and very confusing. My suggestion is get the information from the Horses mouth, the immigration office, they are there to help not hinder so these people will guide you through this minefield. Best wishes on you future well done and thanks for the question. I hope this helps in some way. --

Hi there! Can I have a partnership on some small business (like a street food stall, for example) with my wife and making use of Business Visa to stay and live there instead of Marriage Visa? And what if the whole business it's on her name? Am I counted as her "employee"?
@RetiredandLivingthedream

A street Cart and a Business visa will never happen, a business visa is costly and you need at least 4 staff and you can only manage it, you are not allowed to work on the food delivery side. My wife has a market stall she bought and paid for everything I enjoy our trips to Bangkok to restock. A marriage visa is much more easy than a work visa.
