We are losing these Icons😭. Just happy Joe passed along some of his hard won knowledge before he passed.
@johnasbach5773 жыл бұрын
Sadly we are losing these icons, but what is even worse is the waning interest of the younger generation in these talents. There are still some, but most have been indoctrinated by the radical environmental climate change crowd that internal combustion engines are evil and are destroying the planet and need to be thrown on the ash heap of history. They are perfectly content to be shuttled around like cattle on mass transit or stuffed into their less than exciting, mostly hideous evs.

Thank god somebody knows this besides me!!! It’s extremely annoying to hear most uneducated bubbas talking about their MODAS or the others with an 8th grade education that can actually pronounce MOTORS, however both knuckle scrapers. Some of these sins were further enhanced by “ THROWING “ the engine in there , or “ THROWING “ a paint job on it”. Even smart and competent people will destroy the kings English happily. It’s all made worse b/c the most respected trade publication is called… u guessed it… MOTORS MANUALS !!! I have to go now and THROW the book at some whackos!!!! Are you fhes

And what happens when the paint starts coming off?? That’s the first I’ve ever seen, painting the valley??
@peterrivney5523 жыл бұрын
They do it a lot of times myself I use epoxy paint... Just make sure you wash all the oil out usually I will hot tank the block then have it checked for cracks then I put the sander over it lightly clean it up then paint...
@davelowets2 жыл бұрын
Don't need no stinkin "paint" inside the engine block. No one that knows what they are doing does this anymore. It's a waste of time, and the proper "Glyptol" paint is an expensive waste of money.
@user-uj7zp5qs7q4 ай бұрын
I think they paint so the oil flows better without pooling
@brianellman3 жыл бұрын
You wonder about a addictive you put in your oil to stop it from leaking. sounds a tab bit risky. didn’t help to much on my radiator. :-).
@davelowets2 жыл бұрын
The oil additive added here isn't to stop a leak. It's Zinc, that is missing from today's oils, and is a requirement on flat tappet cam engines to prevent the lobes from going flat very quickly. The Zinc is a high pressure lubricant, and without it in the oil, the high pressures between a flat tappet cam and the lifter will squeeze the oil film out and the resulting metal to metal contact will wear out the cam in no time. The EPA took the Zinc out of current motor oils because in a worn engine that starts to burn oil, the Zinc would end up coating the inside of a catalytic converter, and render it ineffective and useless. So, no more zinc in common off the shelf oils..

What are the cam specs?
@sandyshoremann75242 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. With the completed engine dynoed at 1 hp/cu in must be mild street performance grind around 224deg@.050. It is NOT a Roller cam as they said.Likely a Magnum 270 hyd flat with added nitriding service. That's 1/2 lift"

These engines have heavy wrist pins. Very heavy
@davelowets Жыл бұрын
Huh?? 🤷🏻 They're hardly any heavier than a B.B.C. pin, .990 vs. .980
@chrismc.4437 Жыл бұрын
Yes Paul, it's the darn wrist pins! Confounded wrist pins weigh a ton!
@davelowets Жыл бұрын
It's the PISTONS in the 455's that weight a LOT. The factory pistons are SLUGS.

if the cam timing gear is none adjustable what's the point of the degree wheel..
@peterrivney5523 жыл бұрын
Are you sure ?
@sandyshoremann75242 жыл бұрын
Joe "Olds" Mondello told you 12:01 Cam check and core shift check. Too much of the latter, gets factory iron heads and you sell it to a pleasure boat guy not a digger - Sandy
@aeroflopper2 жыл бұрын
@@sandyshoremann7524 @Sandy Shoremann but my block as just come from the machine shop that charged for a fortune making sure the block was sound, bored, , honed etc. would you not check things before you send it to machine shop? but still does not answer my question, ok he is checking to make sure everything sound for re build, i see many videos of checking the cam timing with big wheel indicators, on none adjustable timing gears, i have also seen many with adjustable timing gears were setting the cam timing is crucial.
@davelowets2 жыл бұрын
@@sandyshoremann7524 A degree wheel has ZERO to do with checking for core shift.
@davelowets2 жыл бұрын
@@aeroflopper When using a non-adjustable timing set, using a degree wheel will just check to verify the cam meets the specs on the cam card, and looks good for the show.
