Yamaha's FM Algorithms used on the DX7 and the FS1R can be applied to other FM-capable synths, like the Hydrasynth. In this video I show how to do it, starting from scratch.

Nice work - pretty explanatory and educational ! The Bob Ross of the Hydrasynth!

Thanks! I can't match his hair, though.

I do really wish that you'd had your lens focused better. I can barely read anything on that display. That's a real shame, considering the work you put into this. Ah, never mind, right before you started talking about the DX7 algorithms, the screen came into focus. Very happy to see that.

Yeah, it was in auto focus and it focused on my hand! Will have to do in manual next time. Glad it was helpful.

Such a great video exploring FM synthesis for the hydra! Would you consider making some classic DX7 patches on the Hydra like brass, glass pads, strings, mallets, bass ect? Really love the idea of using the Hydra as a DX7 Alternative vs going the subtractive route. It's such a complex and flexible instrument.

Thanks, but I don't plan on doing much more FM with it.

Great tutorial! But, please don't use expressions like "not musically useful"... something you may find musically useless might be very musical to another person ;) I make my living out of those "not musically useful" sounds. Oh also, an FM operator is not a pair or carriers and modulators... it's simply an oscillator that can be either or both.
