I got say, your content is amazing. Not only you bring interesting cameras to talk about in the videos, but the way you talk and explain your experiences you had with certain camera or equipment is so good and natural, the way you talk feels like when a close friend is talking to us, a serious tone rather than sounding like you're reading a script. Keep up the good work, your videos always inspire me in taking photos out there ♥

Definitely though provoking video. I have been going through a move and downsizing so I am going through my collection of cameras and re-acquainting myself with the cameras I have and want to keep and selling off most of the rest. For digital I shoot mostly on either my Pentax K5 IIS or my Olympus EM5 II and EM 10 II. Then I have a bunch of film cameras. Many I bought because they were trendy at one time and haven't used them much since.

Id honestly give the Fujifilm a try, I got an X-T1 the other day and tried it out. The JPEG recipes are super customizable and theirs plenty of recipes people share. I had a blast shooting with it, but i decided to switch it out for an X-T2 for a bunch of little things they improved upon the 1

New to the channel. I really dig your approach and presentation. Second those who say try a Fuji, but learning to appreciate what you’ve got is always preferable.

Just came across your channel, and I'm definitely enjoying it! It's kind of strange because we are from N.M. and now live in Arkansas. We actually live in Morrilton, Arkansas, which is where Petit Jean Mountain is located. If and when you ever come back to this area and you want to borrow some camera bodies to make some videos on, just let me know. In Canon, I have the 5d Classic, 1d mark iv, RP, R6, and M50. If you like Nikon, I have the D70s, D3s, D700, D500, D810, and Z5. I also have a couple of Olympus em5 m2 if you are into micro 4/3.

"we're so spoiled" Yes, yes we are. I really think that it's a thing with everyone nowadays. We take for granted what we have today without asking ourselves the question of "how did people do before?" That's a question that I asked myself actually, and that led me to a path of simplification. Sure, I'm keeping my Nikon Z6 and My Fuji X-T2, it's really great cameras. But before that I was looking at potential upgrades or switches : Sony A7IV, Fuji X-T5, Canon R6II, Nikon Zf or Z8,... Everytime telling myself "hey I should *NEED* that feature, right?" when it fact I wanted it and convinced myself that I couldn't take photographs for as long as my camera doesn't have it : this isn't the way. What I did is that I embarked on a retro camera journey. The weirder and old the camera was, the better I felt shooting it. I went through the Nikon D700, Canon 5D Classic, Nikon D300, Nikon D2H and went as far as the 1999 Nikon D1. ALL were able to give me picture I would like and hang on my wall. Even that 25 year old Nikon D1 for f*** sake. This is where I realized how much of a poiled little child I was with my Z6 looking at upgrades. Upgrades are meaningless, what matters are your capabilities. Doing this was kind of eye opening and re-kindled my love for photography when it comes to personal work. Just shoot, have fun with it. If it feels right when you release the shutter, then it will be right later. And sometimes with a camera, less is more. This is really something that came to life with the 5D Classic.

Really sounds like you need to come over 😅 Grab a Nikon, turn on ADL, and you can install or create custom profiles for free as well as create custom curves to get that film highlight roll off. I'd actually recommend renting a Leica SL3. But just incase you want to scratch that DSLR itch, Nikon D780 with a 60mm f/2.8D Micro.

Brilliant video and brilliant channel. Easily my favorite and I've been watching them since atleast 2015. So unique and uncompromisingly honest. I hope you make a photography book in combination with your commentary. That would be a banger. A huge task, but a fucking banger.

Canon pictures styles are OK as they are, I made a couple custom styles that I like. I have a M6 mark II. I keep reading about newer cameras but I don't need one. You are right that it would just cost thousands of dollars with no results.

Thanks, it's oddly comforting to have some reassurance on that @tonykeltsflorida. I guess marketing has been working on me, making me feel like it's time to spend more money. I misread at first, I read R6 Mark II, but you have an M6 Mark II. Nice. I'm super curious about those EOS M cameras, and compact cameras in general. It would be a dream to travel with something like that. I don't mean exotic locations necessarily, but just that insane portability would make it a lot easier to shoot basically anywhere, I would think.

For a "SOOC-ish" picture profile, maybe something like Cobalt image's profiles could be worth looking at? I think they're based on different camera brand's in-camera presets from over the years, so you could try a ricoh or nikon SOOC look with your Canon files, or something like that. ) Also, I've been really enjoying your videos! Just hearing another photographer's inner monologue is super appreciated & relatable. Thanks for sharing your thoughts & your images.

Watching this one again and thinking of your lens pairing conflict you mention with your preference to liking 50mm. I suppose now that you have the 45mp of the R5 you could shoot that 50mm in aspc mode in which it becomes an 80mm f1.92 with 17 mp. Maybe making easier to find a second lens option for the other body.

There are some sliders that enable you to see the before and after looks. The main thing that I take from your video, that I think these solve, is that you have the ability to make adjustments based on your eye and preferences. I'm happy with what Ted has done and use them as a starting point when editing.

Can't see much point in upgrading from the eos r, unless you had a really specific need that wasn't being met. But if you just want to try something new and different for fun, maybe you could try a gfx with some vintage glass?
@NicholasHornbrook
@NicholasHornbrook 4 ай бұрын
Mostly just a bunch of little annoyances with the EOS R, @davyboyo, nothing major. But those annoyances do kinda add up. Yeah, it's a good suggestion. There are so many interesting cameras out there, it's a bit overwhelming actually. Even just looking specifically at Fuji cameras, since I don't go back a long way with their cameras, I kinda lack a strong understanding / sense of what to choose. Anyway, I think I really need to take a lot more time to think about it before making any decisions.

@@NicholasHornbrook I see what you mean. It is difficult when there are those little niggles that end up making you not want to use a camera even though it is capable of producing results for the most part. You want a camera that draws you to use it, and that's a slightly different thing for each individual

Love the videos you’ve been putting out; the emotionless, monotone voiceover adds so much! I would just consider not overlaying the “unedited jpeg” text as prominently over every image. The animation for the text fading in and out I find especially distracting.
