Glad to see a new camera video that didn't end at the Fedex office.

I love the order of your videos. Smart move to get the R5 for professional work. Makes everything more efficient. And time is money when you have your own business.

Thanks @Adogcallednoortje. It is nice to have reassurance that I didn’t make a dumb choice. I’m currently still feeling pretty positive about it. Excited to get to work now.

R5 is a no brainer if you're shooting weddings and using it for business. Been a hobbyist shooter since 2008. Some film here and there before that. Always bought a new camera then sold the old one soon as I could to offset the cost and not lose too much money, but always did a little. R was my dream camera back in the day but when I decided to go Mirrorless I got the R7 first, then wanted to go FF for wider perspectives and looked at a used R at the camera store and I just couldn't get into the camera after experiencing a newer more modern experience. EVF lag is what did it in for me mainly, but man I have seen some beautiful photos from that R body that still impress me today. I knew it had it's limitations mostly for faster moving things like wildlife and shooting cars but never knew about the wedding reception thing. I like taking portraits and shot my sons wedding recently and that was kind of fun, but anymore i just don't have the patience with dealing with people in general. I like to go out and shoot, enjoy my quiet time and it calms me from the hustle and bustle of life and keeps me sane. And most importantly I have been able to document my kids growing up, school events and just life things in general and I can go and look back in time when I go through my photos. I do like gear and talking about it with others with the same interest. Hope you enjoy your new camera.

Same here. It’s hard to resist those falling R5 prices. Saw a Canon refurbed R5 for $2399. Waited too long, and I missed it.

Oh funny @LTZebra, I saw that too.

Topic aside, your narration and music choice made this video stand tf out. It feels like something... more

R5 upgrade is great. The AF is well worth the upgrade.

This is great 🎉! Are you gonna change up the format? Or keep the action camera style going?
@NicholasHornbrook9 ай бұрын
I honestly don't know @sambkt3995. I plan to experiment, for sure. See what feels right. So far I haven't been able to leave the house with a camera since finishing this video. It's been a busy couple of days.

thanks for an informative and entertaining video. One way to supposedly improve the battery life on R5 is to put it into airplane mode, might be worth a go. Did you consider the R6ii when looking at a new body? Would be interested to hear if you did and why you went for the R5 instead. Thanks

@DelvesPhotos, here’s my dumb reason for not choosing the R6 MII: I’m not super fixated on resolution, I’m really not, but the idea of upgrading from the R to a lower resolution sensor felt like a huge bummer. I’m already bothered about upgrading after only 5 years of using the R (I own two of them) that feels fast to me, seems like the R should have lasted longer. So if I’m going to upgrade, seeing a bump in resolution eases that pain a little. At least superficially I’m getting something for my money that I can quantify. I “scan” medium format film by photographing the negatives, both my own film shots and old family photos. I like to think that I’m preserving those as well as I possibly can, without spending a fortune. This is where I’m most interested in that resolution increase. Here are some less dumb reasons: Recently I came to realize that the quality of the EVF is very important to me, a higher quality EVF makes the camera a lot more fun to shoot, so that was a factor. Although, yes it's very high res and smooth on the R5, having used it for a while, I wish it were brighter. I’m interested in 8K video for times when there’s nobody behind the camera, and people move around and the composition gets weird, unusable. Having 8K and cropping down to 4K would have saved me a few times in the past. In retrospect though, 6K might have worked out better. My computer can barely handle 8K. Truthfully, I was a little jealous of the R5 over the years, so when the price started dropping, it became compelling to me. I would love to have the R6 MII’s autofocus. Having spent a lot more time with the R5 now, I’m not as thrilled with the animal eye tracking as I was initially. Also, manually switching from people to animal has grown tiresome. Oh well. Mostly it's all positives with the R5 so far. Just a couple disappointments.

Please consider slightly lowering the music volume, it was loud enough to distract me from what you were saying on this.

You don’t believe me @jbide7178? 😆 It’s true, but I get it. I spent a lot of time researching camera systems. Ultimately I took the path of least resistance. Well, anyway, now I don’t have to think about it anymore. I can just get back to shooting and put the issue to rest for a while. 😁

@@NicholasHornbrook oh, you know I believe you! I know you pondered a few systems! I did the same 11 yrs ago.
