I absolutely loved this video! I had a 5D2 some years ago but ended up selling it. I’ve regretted that ever since and just recently bought one in beautiful condition. I currently shoot with an R5, R62, and an R7, but I still really enjoy the feel of the 5D2. The images I created with my old one were some of the most beautiful I ever shot. I think the camera is a classic and one of Canon’s greatest.

I got one in the mail today… well TWO actually. I got a 1ds mark 2 and a 1d mark 2 off eBay with a charger for a price that I won’t disclose… it was too good. I’ve wanted this body for years and years. Today’s been a good day. Both batteries are holding a great charge and both bodies are working. The 1ds has 16000 on it and is in prestige condition. The 1d is a little long in the tooth but has been functioning great. Thank you for making this video. It really helped me pull the trigger.

I'm sure you are aware, but since you were having the issues with the macro shots and using tubes, I wanted to suggest a Canon EF to RF adaptor. They are cheap, and work great for adapting your existing EF lenses to the RF mount. I'm still using an EF 35mm on my R5 with that adaptor, and it works as flawlessly as the native RF glass. On another topic, I just discovered your channel and really get what you are saying. Much of your experience with photography rings bells in my own journey and my want to do something unique and meaningful with a camera, not just to contribute to the noise. I've subscribed and can't wait to lean more on this philosophical level that you are on.

Yes, appropriate naming of the luts is essential, so hilarious I had to forward a screenshot to a friend. Life's too short to process every raw image. I am eagerly awaiting the in-camera adoption of the new JPEG XL format, which can cope with up to 32 bits, so will be a good format way into the future.

"Other than not screwing it up." Really good point. "trying to be clover" made me think about Fight Club. "Clever. How's that working out for you?" I really really love what you brought up in this. "I didn't even know that was the goal." It's exciting to think about the other ways we can use a camera. I feel so many parallels with what I'm interested in lately. I just want to shoot stuff that connects and that tells stories. Not "amazing" photos, but ones that make others want to talk about it also. BTW, I've never seen the drone's display before. I've seen a million Casey Neistat videos showing a drone sweep, but this was the first time I ever saw the mechanics of it. That was cool. And holy cats that R5 makes such a sound when the shutter clicks. Wow.

Wow mate you've got some MEGA shots there! The R5 seems to be a great camera. This reminds me of my times as a Glamour Photographer in the early to mid 1990s. It was virtually all studio stuff though and a few nightclub locations. I Wasn't good enough to do anything outside! The girl in this video, her black hair against the white skyline looks fabulous. Thats not the kind of sky I usually like especially being in England its like that a lot, wishy-washy whitey grey, but you got some superb photos with it here. Knocking your camera at the start obviously put you in a bad mood but you recovered well! Excellent video and excellent photos.

You know, I've been falling back into this too. Going out and shooting, doesn't matter what it is. Doesn't have to be perfect, doesn't have to be beautiful. It's so rewarding. These photos look excellent btw. Great message throughout.

Superb video!!! Those are my kind of photos! Maybe you could put shutter speed & F stop on photo along with Camera & lens info??? For decades I've been complaining that digital cameras-even the best DSLR's just can't capture images like even old throwaway 35mm cameras. The colours just wernt the same & digital images just never looked as good. However the current crop of mirrorless cameras have got really close. I Recently bought the Nikon Z8 & some Z S lenses & its made me fall in love with photography again, the images are mega IMO and very close to old 35mm film images.

Always enjoy your videos. I'm sure we'll run into each other in the bosque some day, I'm out there all the time riding my bike and taking crappy photos. After seeing your drone video I picked one up and you were right - it's like starting over again and rethinking everything. I subscribed to your drone channel, excited to see what you do there.

Oh nice @SteveTalksBooks! I regret some of my recent photography purchases, but not the drone. I continue having a blast with that thing. Way more than I ever expected. Hope you're having a similar experience. I ride a bike occasionally, but not often enough. Crappy photos in the bosque though, that's like my entire life! Just noticed that you have a book channel, and subscribed, and forwarded your channel info on to the wife.

Hi. I like your photos. Recently I converted 2 cheap p&s cameras to full spectrum. Fixed a 850 permanently to one of them for b&w images, and fixed a step up filter ring to the other for different IR filters to play with. Would you recommend which IR filters to achieve similar photos like yours in this video? Thanks…

The thoughts of having difficulty being a productive member of society making a living instead of nurturing your craving to create and explore curiosity. That is very relatable, at least to me, but to many creatives I would guess.

I am trying to learn photography, and i find portraiture intriguing. I have not seen this kind of "thought space" narrative before. I found it extremely valuable to my own thoughts and doubts hearing how an experienced professional can have a "bad day" Makes me more inclined to just go and learn by doing which is challenging in the accessible knowledge landscape that youtube provides. Thanks for sharing

Indeed it can be very useful to have a model who can also think as a photographer and then hear out their input, as they also probably have their own idea of a portrait that could work. More than likely it will lead to one or two great (spontaneous) ideas during the shoot. I loved the shots through the glass, I think I too will experiment with this in a future shoot.

Regarding your sensor problems: a few years ago I gave up completely that „cleaning sets”, as it wasn't possible to clean the sensor in 100% using them - and since that time I rather allow the servicemen to earn some money to save my (more precious) time (and my nerves). And that's my advice for you: you may want to spend a few bucks to get a completely clean sensor in return with not a single spot. And you may want NOT changing the lenses outdoors; when predicting you'll need different focus lengths - then simply attach „zoom” lens being still at home. Among other cameras, I also have Canon 1D Mk II (without „s”, that 8 Mpx model), but all the Canons earlier than 40D won't give a decent JPG picture; their firmware is too simple (tried various settings including the curves one can program into camera's memory). You can easily check it out using free GIMP program: I mean opening the JPG file generated by your camera and then selecting from GIMP's menu „Colors -> Auto -> White Balance” - then just compare „before” and „after”. Of course image can be „polished” even further - but the above is an example you can improve it (quite often „significantly” in case of early Canons) with just a single operation.

Thanks, yeah they say they are happy with them. I think I did a mediocre job though. I offered a reshoot. But, @hoodio is correct. Didn’t mean for it to come across as “poor me, I’m the worst” often I fail to make my point because these are unscripted. But I decided in advance that it might be a fun shoot to do a video of, I asked their permission, but then I felt it went badly. So I could either scrap the video at that point (which I’ve done many times in the past), or just let the story be how I don’t feel it went well. Maybe that would be useful for somebody. 🤷‍♂️

@NicholasHornbrook 25 күн бұрын
Agreed. At one point, that was going to be the entire video, pulling over and launching from the car. 1, I don't know if these two interests (still photography and drones) really mix, and therefore maybe I need to start a separate drone channel, 2, the car blocks the signal just a bit, so you can't fly as far out as you could if you simply get out of the car, 3, I thought looking at the inside of the car might get boring after a few minutes. 🤷‍♂️
