Excellent , excellent video … pre- understanding or pre knowledge is probably needed to grasp these concepts. Thank you for sharing.

No worries, mate

Wow....this video FINALLY helped me understand how the hip/jack rafter forces work. It's all just a bunch of triangles, except the hip and jack rafter forces are longer triangles (to fit the structure of course) but at 45 degrees.

Can you please re-visit this subject to show in detail how it was built?

There’s not a single video on KZbin that explains roof framing

Would it be possible to take the length of the common rafter from ridge to wallplate and then the wall plate fron last common rafter to the 45 degrees on the corners where wall plates meet and then find hyp of that triangle for the length of hip?
@apprenticemath2 жыл бұрын
Yes it is possible, same thing. (sorry about the late reply)

Can you do a video explaining how to work out a bastard hip/valley with different pitches

Thank for the tip, will do when I have a nice model built

This is an exercise for people that don't want to cut rafters but for math majors in College

How do we calculate the hip valley cripples?
@wodeyaeric53512 жыл бұрын
And jacks. How r they calculated?
@apprenticemath2 жыл бұрын
Will shoot a video later. Short story: Cripples are like common rafters, just shorter. Cripple run = common run - spacing, for example 1500 = 1900 - 400 o.c. Cripple length = cripple run x slope factor Then cripples need to be shortened and notched.

@@apprenticemath I wish I could send u some roof I am about to do and u tell me what the different measurements would be. Do u have WhatsApp & I send it to u?

Is the run of the valley rafter using the same diagonal logic as for the hip?
@apprenticemath2 жыл бұрын
yes, valley runs and hip runs are the same

So you never get to the point of explaining the hip rafter calculation

well yes he actually does. what is your question? perhaps i can answer it

Is there a formula for converting the the common rafter angle, to the hip rafter angle on a equally normal roof?@@Sebastian-iw5et
