I use that same app. So I do have a question, since I’ve never used the pitch function : why did you input 6” when you were calculating the first diagonal?

It is the pitch: 6/12. Inputing 6 and then punching 'pitch' tells the calculator it is a 6 pitch. If it were an 8/12, you'd input 8 inches and then punch pitch. It is not entirely intuitive.

Your using a Swanson square, on the hip scale it shows under 20 degrees, my Mr Pen shows about 22 degrees, I may need to upgrade my speed square.

It is not a Swanson square, it is a drawing of a Swanson square. :) A 6/12 roof is about 26.5 degrees. The hip and vally on a 6/12 roof is about 19 degrees.

tan⁻¹(tan(26.5°)÷√2) = 19.42° - Conversion formula which isn't taught anymore, just let the calculator do it 😂

Construction Calculator. 😢

it is easier than doing the math on a piece of OSB. I used a book called "The Roof Framer's Bible" when I was framing houses because I was too cheap to buy a construction calculator. Now they come on your phone and are very cheap.

@@ProTradeCraft I hear ya, I was hoping this video would be focused on the math, not reliant on a Construction Calc. I would imagine that if I was in the trade I would also be using the CC's.
