At 4:44 you say that an “A-NA” (Alternate not authorized) means that this airport is NOT authorized as an alternate airport... but I believe that this just means that this specific approach plate is not authorized as an alternate. There may be another approach plate for that airport that IS authorized as an alternate. Let me know if I’m wrong.

You're correct, at KMGJ the ILS 04 is A/NA but the RNAV approaches are authorised for alternate uses

In the Jeppesen definition document, they define the FAF as "a specified point on a non-precision approach..." and define the FAP as "a specified point on the glide path of a precision approach...". So precision approaches don't have a FAF, they have a FAP instead. They also note: "The FAF is coincident with the FAP on a localizer based non-precision approach". (At 12:45 we can see FAP and FAF aren't always coincident) That's all, just thought it would be worth sharing since I was a little confused. Thanks for the invaluable videos!

Here's a question I've always had. Why does the FAA call Glide Slope Intercept the FAF for a precision approach when it's also used for RNAV approaches (non-precision) with LNAV/VNAV and LPV minima? Would it not be more accurate to say it is the FAF for any approach with vertical guidance? I'm sure it's a hold over from before RNAV became so prevalent with GPS, but still it's an easy wording change they should make.

diamondbreak you have to remember these charts are made for airplanes of all sizes as part of the service the FAA gives for its users. TCH is more critical for faster jets as any foot crossed above the TCH, assuming you continue the same decent angle will result in a longer landing run. The longer the landing run, the less runway available for you to stop. Especially given precipitation or contamination such as snow. TCH i think is also used to calculate and generate your LPV or at the very least used to be used to generate a VNAV for LNAV/VNAV equipped airplanes utilizing that approach minima and capability.

Sorry, I'm just starting my instrument training and trying to learn as much as possible. At 3:47, is states that "Circling NA southeast of Rwy 3-21". I don't understand this... This is an ILS approach, what circling is involved here???

There are 3 other runways you could land on besides the one the approach is taking you to. Runways 3, 17, and 35. You can shoot an ILS down to circling mins and circle to whatever runways you're cleared for.
