Aloha, and much Mahalo's for your honesty reporting on Hawaii real estate and living. I haven't watched all of your videos but the one's that I did watch you miss out on one huge topic, " HOA FEES " !!!! THIS CAN MAKE OR BREAK ANY CHANCE OF HOME OWNERSHIP IN HAWAII. Please include this in your content , because many first time owners may not realize .

Watching from Seattle. Used to live in Guam. Close island friends moved to Oahu and just bought a home in Waianae. I'm familiar with Maui life & property. Love your approach to sharing real estate info. It's great to see more of all the various villages (we would call Waianae a village in Guam) on Oahu!

Appreciate you acknowledging homelessness. My son is homeless in Waikiki and it’s definitely a constant concern for me. I lived Kailua for 40 years but there’s just something so raw about Waianae/Makaha. I like the heat, the mtns, and the deep blue ocean. Surf!

I grew up down there and have attended school, lived and worked at several places on the continent. Some of the nicest people and families that I am still close to are from that Coastline. Mahalo for being upfront and honest. The price for living in paradise is multi-faceted, the solution is multi-pronged but the spirit of the land, its surroundings and the people there are what makes that entire area a special place.

Wow, what a lovely perspective on Waianae. I'm a mainlander and have always been curious about the area. I assumed it was a "locals only" part of the island. But now I can see it's like many places, like you said you get what you give and it deserves respect. As usual, the quality of your videos is top notch. Also, I'm so sorry to hear the story of your brother, thank you for sharing his story ❤

I am Dutch (Netherlands) , my youngest sister is married to a Hawaiian guy and they live in Waimanolo ( if I write that right), not too far from the Obama residence (Magnum PI in the past), in her opinion Wainae is not the best part of Oahu. There is a reason why houses are cheaper over there... Don't know, been twice on Oahu. But it is a 24 hrs travel from Amsterdam. It is a pleasure to watch your vids. A good saleswoman indeed.

Aloha, I grew up on the Wai’anae Coast and lived there for over 60 years, I love it there and it will always be home and actually was one of the first buyers in Sea Country. I moved to Thailand 4 years ago, primarily because of the cost of healthcare in the US regardless of where you live. I recognize that I am growing older and although in good general health now, understand that it will change as none of us live forever. There is a very high level of healthcare here in Thailand that is affordable. I would love to move back to Wai’anae but do not see that the cost of health care will change anytime soon

I remember when homes in Sea Country was first built, and I thought the prices were ridiculous. Now it's doubled. While I love the Waianae Coast area, Yoks especially, I will never buy a home in Hawaii. After 60 years of working and living in Hawaii, I am moving on to not so greener pastures, but at least I could afford them. Another KZbinr, made his home in Texas and dropped new roots there, Hawaiian style. I'll probably do the same. Great take on Waianae and I hope it gets better there, homelessness sucks there.

Loved this video! I lived in Makaha for a few years when my daughter was young. What you said is true, you get what you put out. Met some of the most loving people and some of the most shady. But we loved our time there. The only reasons we moved is the commute and the heat. Thank you also for sharing your personal story re the homeless. Waianae homeless are a unique group of people. You have the native Hawaiians who are claiming their rights and the mix of chemical and/or alcohol challenged, along with those less fortunate. The entire area has basically not had the support by our govt that they need and deserve. All in all though Nanakuli, Maili, Waianae and Makaha can be wonderful places to live if you know what the areas are like, understand the people and move there with the right attitude. Thank you for your thoughtful video.

It would be a dream to retire in Hawaii, I’m still working on my husband in that regard, lol. My son is living in Japan right now with his wife who is from there, so I would be that much closer to him too. Thank you for sharing this part of Hawaii and your very personal connections to it. Sadly, I don’t think there is a state in our country that doesn’t share in those same issues. I wish we had solutions and answers for how to best help the homeless and addicted, and we should keep talking about it and not act like it doesn’t exist.

Whole family stayed twice at Hawaiian Princess on vacation. We loved it. Papaoneone Beach, aka Turtle Beach is a hidden gem. We like the locals and neighborhood, slow pace. The only thing is one way in and one way out. Going to any activity adds 30 minutes minimum just to get out of there.

Fun story: Just got off the plane, driving through Waianae at 11 pm on a Sunday (I think), at 30 maybe 35 mph on a 25 mph (or was it 20 mph?) zone, cop came out of a dark sideroad, lights blinking. Cop gave me a warning (no ticket) and an advice: "got to slow down from Longs to Hawaiian Princess." Still wondering today: School zone is 24/7? Another fun story: BYU (at Laie, used to be Church College) had curfew at midnight. We drove fast to get back to the dorm. Approaching a car ahead with one blue light on top. Chevy SS! Well, change of plan - go around the island. Many great memories!

Watching this from Toronto, Canada. First time visited Hawaii (lived for 4 months) 14 years ago in my early 20s and came back for vacation last year. Hawaii have changed. Some of the new developments - like Kakaako - didn't exist then. I remember you could see a bit of a homelessness here and there, including Waikiki area. Now - driven around the whole island - it is only noticeable on the west coast. Which is SO incredibly beautiful. Waikiki (and the whole strip from airport on) became a lot more fancier and significantly invested in. And definitely more expensive. But still totally worth every penny in my opinion. Sorry about your brother. Thank you for sharing. Love your videos! ❤

Good video, i think the traffic is a bigger issue than the homelessness. Any big city in mainland has crazy homelessness. Waianea has enough good qualities. On the other hand Gentrification is not a horrible thing. There are plenty of things people can do to improve land/home appearance s without breaking the bank. Present day any place that is nice to live is seeing locals having to leave cause home prices are too high.
