@@ApproachandDepartureVideoshey cpt. Have you flown a Boeing. If so do you prefer the stick over the yoke? And also how much bigger is the a320 cockpit compared to the 737

I have flown the MD80. This was an airplane with a yoke. I prefer the sidestick! The A320 cockpit looks to me like much bigger than the 737 cockpit. I do not know the measurements, but it must be much bigger.

Live near Belgrade. Watch your flights since few days. Went to DUS on 1985 with Adria Airways (brother`s wedding). Flying to RJK since 11 yr. kid with my favourite DC9, (first time couple weeks after Aviogenex from Gatwick crashed on landing 23.05.1971.) I checked now, (07.07.2014.) Eurowings is flying DUS to RJK EW9962/9963. If you ever have luck to fly over beautiful Kvarner bay and islands, threshold (14)/32 I would like to watch this. I wrote that wish some day ago. PS I have saved your RJK landing long ago (video from 4 yrs ago) amongst other RJK airport videos, but without 5 cameras.

Paul, thanks for watching! Yes, the weather looked awful. But it was much better than forecasted. The forecast showed in addition to the wind some bad thunderstorms for our arrival time. This was also the reason for the large amount of extra fuel. Many greetings to Kent!

@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 29 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching and your great feedback! When it is very windy, usually the weather also may change very quickly. Clouds are coming and going. This is also true for thunderstorms. We know about those possibilities before because we check the weather forecasts for the flight. For this flight, we took - for example - a good amount of extra fuel because thunderstorms were forecasted for our arrival time. As you have seen in the video, the thunderstorms were already gone but the wind was still there.

I love the way the sun reflects off the top of the clouds, they look like giant marshmallows. As a passenger I find descending through clouds like that a little disconcerting suddenly not being able to see anything out the window. Do you ever find it disconcerting as a pilot up the front? Thanks for watching and your good feedback! No, I do not find flying into the clouds disconcerting. It is very normal and happens on most of the flights for a while. As long as we do not fly a visual approach, we rely on the instruments and the outside view is optional. It is just for our pleasure or helps to verify the position of other airplanes. We are trained to fly without outside references.

Thanks for watching and for sharing your good feedback! Also many thanks for your financial support of the channel! Twice a year we do train for 2 days in the simulator. The training ends with a check which is done by an examiner who is authorized by the aviation authority to check pilots. Also, we are checked yearly in the airplane by a check pilot. This is called linecheck and the checkpilot has to make sure that we work in accordance with all standards and valid procedures. In addition, once a year, we have to undergo flight safety and security training and check. This is usually done together with cabin crew members and includes such things like fire fighting, evacuation training and using the emergency slides ….

Excellent video and good landing - you deserve a Krugbier after coping with those gusty conditions. I spend time here in Basingstoke in a full-size 737 simulator; it's not easy to maintain the approach speed and path accurately. How often do you glance at the instruments to check the speed, or is it all done by feel and experience?

Thanks for watching and for your financial support of the channel as a member! We do not fly by feelings. Instead, we continuously scan the instruments and adjust thrust levers and the sidestick as needed. We do not always include the exact power setting of the engine in the scan. If we are getting slow or too low, we just add thrust as needed. The amount of required change of the thrust levers is done in regard to the own experience.

Wow! Now that’s what you call a great landing! The FO deserves a praise! I noticed when you were on final there was a little bit of crabbing going on (you were slightly sideways). I don’t know why, but whenever I go flying, I always like the Captain as pilot flying, but in this one your FO nailed it! I should trust FOs more as pilot flying! At what point would there be to do a go around? Were you quite close to doing a go around in this landing? Regards, Louis.

@ApproachandDepartureVideos 29 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! The FO is very experienced. As you saw in the video, he was flying the approach perfectly. I could not have done it better. During this approach everything was fine. The First Officer kept all the parameters in limits. So there was no reason for a go around. We are doing go arounds for example if the approach is not stabilized or if the airplane is not controllable any more or if we do get a windshear alert. Have a nice day!

This landing is beautiful, I'd like to understand something. The pilot maneuvers the stick by adapting it to the septum he sees on the PFD display, or by feeling the movement of the airplane on his person. Thanks for your reply and congratulations. Have a nice weekend

Thanks for watching and your good feedback! We use the instruments as a primary source for our inputs. Sure, we also feel something. But especially in the clouds, it is dangerous to fly by the feelings because they may be completely wrong.

What an approach! Beautifully smooth given how you were being buffeted by the wind. The cameras focused on the instrument panels - are they new? The images are crystal clear! Apologies if this has been asked and answered, why do you have to wait a certain time from landing to shutting down the engines? Thanks for another great video! 🇦🇹🛫🌍🛬🇩🇪🧑🏻‍✈️

Thanks for watching and your great feedback! The instrument panel camera is not new. It was just placed at a different position, closer to the screens. The good thing is that the picture is much better to read. The bad thing is that there are way more reflections on the screens in comparison to the old camera position. On sunny days, it may be very difficult due to the reflections. I will continue to work on this to get the best possible solution for future videos!.

Thank you for another good video. I just wondered if you could perhaps answer my question please. @ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 23 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching and your great feedback! I am not sure about the origin of the noise. It may be coming from the brakes. The other noise, which sounds like a barking dog, origins from the PTU, which transfers hydraulic power from one system to another.

Amazing and professional video as always! I have a question if I may: When do you usually activate the APP phase? Is there a certain time always? And what does it do?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 23 күн бұрын
Thanks for your great feedback! In regards to the activation of the approach phase there are differnt options. Easiest option is to fly along a preprogrammed approach routing. Then the activation of the approach phase will be done automatically when the FMGS calculates that it is time to reduce the speed from 250 knots to green dot speed for the approach. Very often, we do activate it by hand if we start flying a selected speed below 10000 feet or if we want the plane already early to fly green dot speed. When the approach phase is activated, the plane flies green dot speed when clean, S speed with flaps 1, F speed with flaps 2 and 3 and the approach target speed when in landing configuration. Speed must be managed. Selected speed would be overriding the managed speeds.

Spot on landing! One question, is FD on or off durings ILS approaches pilot discretion, or company procedures? Some Airbus youtubers say they turn the flight director off as soon they disengage the autopilot for ILS approaches. For me, flying at home with my desktop simulator, it’s much easier with the flight director on. :)

@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 29 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching, your good feedback and your question! We should have the runway in sight at the minimum descent altitude or the decision altitude of the instrument approach. The autopilot can be switched off whenever the pilot flying wants to do it. It does not matter if the plane is in clouds or flying in nice weather. Usually, we fly instrument approaches. They do not require any outside views until the decision altitude. And they can be flown completely manually, unless it is an autoland approach in fog.

Thanks for watching and your good feedback! Configuration 3 is a possibility but not mandatory. I also would have chosen flaps full as pilot flying. Why hand control over from the pilot flying or first officer in this case to the captain right before turning off onto the taxiway? Is that because the pilot that landed needs to relax for a moment from the focused concentration?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 15 күн бұрын
@@JeffreySmith1 This is in accordance to company procedures. The Captain is always taxiing the airplane, also when the First Officer is pilot flying. Different airlines have different procedures in regard to this. They all do an operational risk evaluation and decide afterwards who will be allowed to taxi the airplane.

no CDA? you leveled off at 3000ft and kept it long time before you capture the glide. Why not just use V/S and reduce the rate? instead of having 1500fpm when 1000 feet to go?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 20 күн бұрын
There was no intention to fly this approach as a continuous descent approach. But there was the intention to fly this approach as economically as possible. Therefore it was flown in the managed descent mode. From 10.000 feet until 3000 feet it was flown almost completely with idle power. We stayed the whole time on or above the precalculated path, which you can see on the PFD. The idle power level off at 3000 feet was used to reduce the speed for the final descent on the glideslope. This is exactly the way the Airbus A320 shall be flown economically.
@Arcadiez
@Arcadiez 20 күн бұрын
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Seems like EDDL is not monitoring CDA compliance, but we do it everywhere when possible. It's about noise level not fuel efficiency. Many airports you can get a massive fine if you don't comply with CDA. (this is what my company keeps telling me) "The idle power level off at 3000 feet was used to reduce the speed for the final descent on the glideslope", if you have a ROD off less than 1000fpm you will be able to slow down. You were below the path at 15nm with 250kt, that's easy to recover from? It's not greece or turkey when they vector you 3000 feet above the path and expect you to keep 160kt. But hey, I'm not a a320 pilot, i have no clue how it works for you guys(only tried it once in sim but not im not TR on it). Just seeing from my point of view and experience. So please don't take it as negativity or me being an asshole. But i really want to change to the airbus fleet, seems so much more comfortable and ergonomic. A proper modern aircraft
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 7 күн бұрын
You are right, EDDL does not require CDA approaches. LHR for example requires us to do a continuous descent. The standard Airbus calculated descent keeps you at idle power as long as possible down to the 1000 feet point. In between, it includes a straight and level part during which the speed is reduced from 250 kts to S-Speed for the glideslope interception.
