Captain if you were at 100% now you are 150% :) - I just heard you say you flew the MD80.. my hero ..LOL.. that airplane will forever be in my heart. Here in the US we are lucky to still have 1 passenger example and a few cargo version flying . Big thanks to today's flight simulators I am proud to have built 200hrs flying that beautiful airplane in VR. It sure keeps you on your toes. I am sure you miss it hopefully - thank you as always for your fantastic videos - Kam

Kam, thanks for watching and for sharing your good and very personal feedback! I loved to fly the MD80. It was my first turbine airplane after flying the Cessna 406 turboprop cargo plane. Flying the MD80 was a great experience! Steam instruments and no moving map plus lots of raw data flying. This was the best training to get good manual flying skills and to keep always track in your brain of the energy level of the airplane. Have a wonderful day!

Very great Video. I love it, how many destinations in Europe were flown in a relative short time. Many different flight legs (Flight Routes to an airport and way back) in different European cities. Short stay in these cities, just enough to get positive impressions of these areas and weather.

Thanks for watching and for sharing your good feedback! We usually fly to the destination, stay there for +/- 45 minutes or so and then fly back. Depending on the length of the first 2 legs, we may be scheduled for another 2 legs to a different destination or sometimes even again to the same destination.

Ganz fantastische Videos!

@ApproachandDepartureVideos

Thanks for watching and your good feedback! We use a performance program from the Airbus company. It always shows the ideal performance settings for the given weight, runway and environmental conditions. Here Flaps 2 was shown as the best solution. We can manually change this, if we would like to use another flap setting.

Why there is this kind of S-curve between KUFED and PALCU during approach. Would it have helped to remove ABALDAF from the F-PLN? However, amazing video and great pilot skills. Thanks for editing and sharing!
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for your great feedback and the question! The removal of ABALDAF may have changed it a little bit. In general, the plane cannot turn by 90 degrees or more overhead a certain point. Here, the FMGS calculated and showed the turn in a way that the airplane overflies the point and turns in parallel. This results in a slight overshoot and turn back to the routing. KUFED is a „fly by waypoint“. This mesns that without ABALDAF, the plane may have turned before the waypoint to intercepted the following track. This is called turn anticipation.

Quite nice really. Not acquainted with the SOPs from eurowings in A320. Your departures with packs on most of the time. Strange. As well, you tend to use the fix info on the mcdu to paint range rings on departures rwys and arrivals. I use to do that on 737 ngs painting 5 dme and 10 dme rings on arr rwys on vmc conditions. In 320 is quite rare to see that feature but probably your SOPs are different. Streesing the need to rise the Sa on lower levels. Very nice videos indeed. Thanks for sharing
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and your good and detailed feedback! I flew for different airlines with different ideas about packs on or packs off takeoff. Packs on is better for passenger comfort and reduces the number of valve on and off switchings. We can use the fix info pages for whatever we want. It is up to the pilots. Usually it is used to illustrate somehow our engine out procedure for the takeoff and the MSA areas for takeoff and landing. If I plan to do a visual approach, I also put in a DME circle. We also use the secondary flightplan and usually setup an immediate return or the takeoff from another runway or intersection.

Very beautiful footage as always captain! I got two questions regarding the takeoff in EDDL: 1) Isn't NADP1 normally recommended in Düsseldorf? Or is it just something in the books which is not followed in the real life? 2) Is the packs on takeoff SOP at Eurowings except if you need the extra power for an improved climb gradient? Thank you so much for sharing this flight with us :)
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 5 ай бұрын
Thank you very much for your good feedback and your important support of the channel as a member! We use NADP2 as long as nothing else is required by the airport. For Germany in general and for EDDL, there are no certain noise abatement takeoff requirements published. For passenger comfort, we usually takeoff with the packs on. If we would need some extra power for example due to a short runway, heavy weight or obstacles in the departure sector, we would switch the packs off. Have a nice day!

Thanks for watching and for sharing your good feedback! We usually use the flightdirector. During visual approaches and when we want to fly "raw data", we switch off the flightdirectors.

Thank you sir for your video! Little question. Its allowed to use full speed brakes with autopilot? Or its allowed by the company?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 5 ай бұрын
The only restrictions here are that some Airbus versions do not extend the speedbrakes more than half with the autopilot on. Even if the lever is set to full extension. The Airbus A319 extends the speedbrakes to full with the autopilot on. So there are no restrictions.

Hi there Captain! Quick question about the chrono on the ND. I get that you would start it once TO Thrust is applied. But why do you keep the timer running throughout the remainder of the flight? Wouldn't it make more sense to reset it so it can be used for something else, like a circling approach or the engine cooldown time?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 5 ай бұрын
Good question! I can use the chrono on the ND for whatever I think is needed. Usually, I start the timer with applying takeoff thrust and keep it running. If I need it for something else, I reset it and start it again. The engine cooldown time is now "officially" monitored by the first officer.

I have a question, maybe a strange one😅 Is it hard to get used to the left stick in an Airbus Cockpit when you are a right-handed Pilot and become a Captain? All the Best and Thank you❤
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 5 ай бұрын
Very good question! I thought about the same before flying the Airbus. But I can tell you that it was not a problem at all. I am right-handed and it took only a few minutes to feel comfortable with it. When flying in the left seat of a conventional airplane, you also use the left hand to manipulate the controls because you use the right hand for the thrust levers or throttle control. Have a nice day!

Hi I love watching these videos,especially while playing msfs, but i have one question.Lets say you are on a 5 mile final, and you get an engine fire. Would you go around to run checklists or jus continue to land? I understand if you cant say
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for your good feedback! Emergency situations always require an individual decision by the crew. We have to consider all circumstances for the decision. But in general, if we are on short final and get an engine fire, we usually would continue the approach and land. In addition, we would call the tower and ask for the fire brigade. It does not make any sense to go around with a burning engine.

ABTUSUK. Ich dachte, die hätten nur 5 Zeichen.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 5 ай бұрын
Gute Frage!

captain - u mentioned engine anti ice not required at altitude -50 degrees despite clouds - what’s the reason for that ?

I don’t know the science, but below -40 SAT it’s not required. I think it’s too cold that the ice won’t stick.

Why is the Airplane on the navigation display not aligned with the route at least at the the first 20 min?🤔

Look at the wind display on the upper right corner that explains it all :) strong sidewind from the right
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos 5 ай бұрын
As already mentioned, reason is the crosswind. The plane follows the preplanned track, but the nose points a few degrees into the wind to make that happen. This is our wind correction angle or WCA. Otherwise the wind would move the plane away from the preplanned routing.

Thanks for watching and for sharing your feedback! The Airbus flies manually very similar to any other plane with a yoke. The only important difference is that in the background computers are active which protect the flight envelope. This makes every flight in an Airbus a very safe flight! The Airbus has protections for high speed, high angle of attack, load factor, pitch attitude, bank angle, low energy to name a few.
