Got 2 donkeys fairly recently (mother and daughter) - mother is exceptionally friendly - daughter far less so - I can see that I will have to be exceptionally patient and try these techniques with the daughter - I had already concluded (from something I read) that gentle movements towards donkeys are essential - thanks !!

Rescued a couple minis, one of which was fairly lovey, the other more nervous. Got them halter broke and small walks on property. Move too quickly to off property walk and they panicked. Took several steps back in terms of trust and comfort with halters and walks. I appreciate your “small steps” and incremental approach, and enjoying the journey, with much smaller goals.. gave me a new outlook on what a success, more patience and understanding, along with enjoying their personalities.Thank you!

side-note: ... wonder how they respond to music ... I've seen so many other animals become enchanted by pretty much any musical instrument-played ... (elephants - when around a piano - either try to play too or sway/dance to the beat) ... bet some donkeys will try to sing along ...

Please make a video how donkey show there feelings through ears, kicking,voices "hihaa",nibbling. I want to know what it really mean if they are happy or not.. thanks:) sorry if my grammar is not correct.
@johnny-bracer65156 жыл бұрын
it's impossible to answer, due to the fact each equine animal has their own defensive behaviors & their own happy behaviors. Some things are common, but i break equine myself, I'm known as a "whisperer", so i have to work with each equine before i can tell it's unique behaviors

I notice that none of the donkey handlers use food bribes. Do donkeys become obsessed with treats like little dogs?
@donkeysanctuary4 ай бұрын
Hi Elizabeth, Thank you for your message. Generally, as a rule we do not recommend feeding treats from the hand unless for training purposes as it can encourage your donkeys to bite. Always introduce new feeds gradually and caution must be given when feeding donkeys with dental problems. Find more information here: www.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk/for-owners/food-for-donkeys/treats We thank you for your continued support.
