Wow! The very first story was amazing, it bought a tear to my eye. I have 2 sons with Autism, one is non verbal and we are about to buy him a tablet for communicating. I am thankful that technology has not forgotten those in the world who still need assistance.

Excellent!!! I know what my son will be getting for x-mas. It also needs to be said, such tools like the iPad and these apps have been around in other forms for several years now, but last time I priced them, they were $3,000 - $5,000 each. Anyone else see the movie that Temple was in? If you haven't you should totally look it up. She revolutionized the way that we move the cattle from holding to the slaughterhouse and made it way more humane. Seriously it's a fantastic movie and it's based off her real story.

@sangikim It depends on the level of autism they exhibit though. In cases of severe autism where the person seems to almost be locked in, the ipad seems to be a VERY effective method, as are computers. For someone with asperger's though I agree that helping them develop strong social coping mechanisms is better than trying to circumvent social situations. Technology seems to be a strength of most aspies and autistics though.

With some people with autism some of them, they are trapped in their own bodies, they want say something, but their bodies and brains won't allow them to communicate, luckily with these IPADS with therapy they can communicate what they are feeling, what they are doing, and open up. This could change the way therapies can be done with people with autism.

My 3 year old autistic daughter has an Ipad and she loves it. But as a parent, using the Ipad as method of therapy or teaching tool is the last method I would use. Autism is a social & communication disorder - I would think having children engaging with a person instead of the Ipad is more important. Using ABA, natural environment teaching, & good old fashion speech therapy is the best way. To my daughter, Ipad is a fantastic toy - much like the nintendo 3ds is to my neuro typical nephew.
@haannguyen4402 Жыл бұрын
I agree with the natural environment stuff! I have autism too, but I can speak without using a device. In my experience, I had good old fashioned role playing and LOTS of practice

Our Autistic daughter (totally non-verbal) is getting an Augmentive Comm. device that works a lot like the I pad. Her teacher's first response to this news was "Who's going to train her on it?!" -So I can sympathize with your situation. The Speech therapist at school is receptive to the idea. All school districts should be open to using ALL assitive technology devices for communication!!! If yours won't work with you, maybe you should take legal action.

I dont want to try and judge the way anyone brings up their children but autism doesnt happen by children watching tv programmes. Autism is a condition from birth or injury. And if your child had autism im afraid you dont 'recover' from it, its not a disease.
