Ideomotor apraxia (IMA) is the impaired ability to perform a skilled gesture with a limb upon verbal command and/or by imitation. It can be shown for both meaningful motor acts that do not imply objects and gestures that imply object use. ~Google search.

I think the reason why she have motor apraxia is (premotor area lesion) this can association with : grasp reflex , spasticity and tendon jerk in case it effect all area 6 if just effect the lateral part of area 6 it will be only apraxia

apraxia always effect parieta lobe....ideomotor...dominent lobe dressing apraxia....non dominent parietal lobe dont mess with frontal lobe

Very useful example of ideomotor apraxia
@nizzyneyrogers11819 жыл бұрын
+Meryn Cutler how can you tell that it is ideomotor apraxia and not ideational? There were a couple of times where the patient stated that she didn't know how to do what the examiner was asking of her.
@Arthur-fz5dw8 жыл бұрын
+nizzyneyrogers Based on what we see on the vid it's ideational apraxia. Loss of ability to conceptualize, plan, and execute sequences of motor actions
@Bagsy847 жыл бұрын
ideomotor because she lost the ability to find the IDEA to perform the MOTOR. (keyword is when instructed) ideational would be when she would do it, but she would do it wrong. EX, initiate the movement but using the tool or sequence improperly. (but the key is, "with tools" or sequence of tasks "order of how things are done ") IDEOMOTOR but unable to "imagine" or act out a movement such as "pretend to brush your teeth" or "pucker as though you bit into a sour lemon." The ability to perform an action automatically when cued, however, remains intact. This is known as automatic-voluntary dissociation. For example, they may not be able to pick up a phone when asked to do so, but can perform the action without thinking when the phone rings.-wiki in the video she says SHE DOESNT KNOW, is part of ideomotor. she cant even imagine how to do it but when cued, she gets it. ideational executes tasks wrong. brushes hair with a toothbrush, wears the sock on top of a shoe.. on a similar task i would say the concept would be like this. both patients can be told to turn off the TV. ideomotor will say they don't know how to, but later you find her turn off the tv on her own. ideational will grab the remote, but press the volume. later you find her pressing mute, then pressing menu. so basically ideomotor can function and do the tasks, they just have a hard time doing it when told to do so. they hear you, but somewhere in there they can't find the idea that matches the motor. the ideational can catch the idea, but somewhere in there it becomes irrational-- trying to cut the steak with a spoon.

@@Bagsy84 We watched this video in class as an example of ideational apraxia. Certain concepts of movements (specifically signaling "stop to traffic" or "blowing a kiss") cannot be conceptualized which means she cannot plan the execution of that action. The difference between ideational and ideomotor apraxia is that the ideational patient has problems with the conceptualization of an action and the ideomotor patient has problems with the execution of an action, while being able to conceptualize it. For multiple concepts the video shows that the patient was unable to conceptualize the task, to the point that the action she performed could in no way be recognized as the action she was asked to perform (e.g. "unlocking a door"). She even states that she doesn't know how to signal stop to traffic, which suggests she has no concept of the action. Ideomotor patients tend to be able to perform an action in a rather clumsy or disproportionate way, while the main goal of the action remains recognizable. This is not the case in the video however. The fact that she can perform certain actions such as "brushing your teeth" may be due to the fact that they are quite automatized. After all, a patient can have clear ideational apraxia but still be able to execute certain individual movements.

Why Didn't They offer to let her learn American Sign Language as same as to show good example Deaf People to use Sign Language everyday?

She has no communication issues. Her issues lie in being able to plan familiar movements with her non-dominant hand.
