I saw a video about a college woman who uses a device to help her communicate because she can't talk-due to autism. Another man used used one as he had CP. It helps being from being misunderstood. I had trouble just being understood when I had to wear a mask due to Covid and I have GERD and a mask made it worse. A device would have helped because my handwriting I'd just as bad as a Dr's!

Almost 4 years later but... I hope she improved her speech even more than what she sounded back then!! English is not even my first language and I can totally understand everything she says.

What perfect advice: "if you be yourself, you'll have the best time ever." We can never be more suited to being anything but who we are. Thank you for this beautiful channel and all that you do, SBSK! X

Hi Katherine and your Mom, This post is so encouraging for me as a mum in UK and my son who is 6 years old just diagnosed. Thanking for being brave and leading the way! Chris is enough to make anyone tongue tied - so good looking! Good Luck in school Katherine, being nervous is completely normal. You've come this far and you are going to be great. Just enjoy everyday. Well done.

I don't watch a lot of this kind of interviews elsewhere so I'm not familiar with the formatting and preparations regarding the process. But I cannot stress enough on how much I appreciate Chris' questions. Simple, to the point, and above all, sincere. This alone shows me that he cares a lot and it allows the individuals he interviews to answer with honesty and transparency. This might sound like a given but I feel that it is a very important step in connecting them with the world that some of them feel isolated from.

Katherine is so pretty and extremely smart. I can see that in her eyes. I appreciate how hard she’s trying to talk herself, because I fully understand why she prefers that over using her app. I hope she had/has a great time at college, and I have no doubt she has made some good friends along the way 🤩

It has been awhile since Katherine has made this video, but I have watched many videos like hers and I wanted to say thank you Katherine for sharing has I have met a girl with Apraxia and these videos help me learn how to communicate with her, and get to know her better. She has so much knowledge and is a very interesting woman, and it's hard to express everything she is thinking. I want to help bridge that gap by learning about Apraxia. And I bet Chris was right about you going to college and making lots of friends! And by now you will have your undergrad degree completed, or decided to go to grad school, maybe even doctorate! Eitherway, just know there are many people who want to learn about you, and build stronger relationships with you. Just as I do with my friend with Apraxia. I bet Chris was right, be yourself, be confident in yourself, and you will make friends! Additionally, I encourage others do what I do. You should always strive to improving in all areas YOU feel improving is needed... Being true and honest with yourself in these areas, and disciplining yourself to work hard in these areas, will always build the confidence you need to be outgoing, and communicate to strangers and make friends. I have a feeling that you are learning these principles already... Thanks again for your help, Katherine, Chris, and Mother... by the way Katherine is my mother's name! Great name! Have a great rest of the year!

My son has speech apraxia. He's not quite 4 yet. We don't know how severe it is. I want to make sure I do everything I can to help him grow to be independent, especially because he came out wanting to be very independent. He's incredibly capable. He's always scaring me with how independent he is. He loves to help make meals and clean dishes. Potty training has been wild and hilarious. He taught himself how to get dressed and will often change his outfit 3-8 times in one day just cause he wants to. But we have to make sure we look for any clothes he's left around that he had an accident in that need to be washed cause he doesn't necessarily always tell us. He's getting better at telling us, which I'm so proud of him for. He tries to talk a lot. We're understanding him better and better cause he's more and more willing to try doing the sounds better. Getting speech therapy is frustrating and complicated.
