John, it has been a pleasure to be a part of your journey, and we look forward to our future work together. Stop by our showroom to take the 1500MX for a test drive; our doors are always open.

Sorry to hear Vince left, he was a great instructor at the hands on training I attended last April. You have been doing this for years, I jumped on your bandwagon 2 and a half years ago. I started with a 8L and a 440. Without you, Vince and Titan and the 2 local tech school shop teachers I would not have had the confidence to go out on my own. So Thank you! I look forward to new fusion and machining videos.

I remember when you got the Tormach for the basement shop. Can not believe how much your business has grown

You have come so far, remembering the days in the basement....the apartment....you cutting your first threads on a benchtop lathe. Grandpa's barn/garage.....then the first shop. I admired your dedication and sacrifices right down to the old and tired pick up. I remember when you landed your first Haas....and that's when I realized you were after it and were not going to be another failed attempt at start up. I look at the Tormach machines here and there, some day maybe, but always think back when you got yours and the set up of that machine. Keep up the fantastic work....keep plugging. I'm truly happy for you and the success you have earned in every way.

Regarding the shop vac, I have one that I use in my CNC setup. Whenever I need to change a part, I use the shop vac to vacuum up the chips instead of blowing air. I have it mounted on the side of the enclosure with the hose inside the machine. Additionally, I use a foot pedal from Harbor Freight to conveniently turn it on whenever I need to use it.

Amazing how far you've come. I remember watching the basement days and the Fusion 360 tips. We are both a little grayer now than then.

Its fair to say without your training classes - which I attended twice - I couldn't be able to do half of what I do do. Thank you

Got to visit the SMW shop a few weeks ago. Was very impressed at how quiet the Willemin was when operating. Super impressive machine and a great shop.

You should invest in one of those lasers like the Xtool p1. You can walk right over to the machine, hold it there and laser engrave the number directly into the metal.

Hello! Operator here at a small job shop with 9 machines (HURCOS), machinist apprentice and current student in Florida at a college where I am 3 semesters in on the aerospace engineering program. I am the do all guy at our shop, meaning machine maintenance. We run all materials in every machine all the time and it's a real pain the ass because our recycling company will return material chip barrels if the chips are mixed. So, to keep the machines specific to certain materials is a great idea in my opinion. The machines have to be cleaned after every job, especially after steels and plastics. So, kudos to you for making the decision to keep machines specific to certain material. Cheers from Florida!

I'd noticed on Google that you were selling those machines a couple of days ago. Was browsing used machine prices. They are priced really well. Was kinda thinking of purchasing a umc 500 with the pallet pool but in about 3 months or so. Too bad timing isn't ever on my side.

You have a very clean shop, I'm working on transforming a 23 year old 6 tons toolmaker CNC which is in a very dirty shop. The machine was used in a very inefficient way, and idle for half of that time at least. I really don't want to let go this machine now.

In case your Okuma viewers are interested in the IO monitor for that all coolant off button: VORD[00006] will equal 1 if the button is pressed. Some other fun guys to double check panel conditions are VORD[00038E] will check the spindle override, VORD[0007] checks the rapid override, and VORD[00019] can sample the feed override. Additional: Your solution to add a camera rocks, but there is a screen on the control parameter page the will tell you all pallet locations. The parameter page is called PALLET ST.-NO and shows a registration of where each pallet is currently located, minus the one in the machine (that guy is on the previous parameter screen).

You have to separate your scrap 🤯, in the uk we get close to sod all for swarf so no way am i sorting it, in the morning i might be mc plastic then later steel, next day ally or brass, its not massive amounts. We do have a bin for solids as we do get good prices for that. It's great to see your still full of enthusiasm 👍👍👍

You're going to have to mark that crate so that nothing gets stacked on top of it or guaranteed the trucking company will stack something on top and the lid will collapse.....better yet, make the lid non flat like a sloped roof so nothing can be stacked on it.

Was just thinking about your cnc class. I missed my opportunity! And I live only 10 miles from SMW! You have a great shop and you exude a passion for your trade. John, could you recommend a school near us? Is the Zane State Willet Pratt still offering cnc training? Thanks!

You can engrave those pallet numbers and fill it colored epoxy and never think about it again. It seems important to you. I understand.

You're going to age ten years in the next two if you dont reduce the stress. I know you love it, but you need a solid, right-hand man. Someone you know you can absolutely rely on. should be able to tell him, hey, im to the Bahamas next week. And know that's ok. You need to be the guy that cuts cycle time in half and collects money, you earned it. I have 17 years experience, 18 NIMS Credentials, Journeyman papers in 2015 from NTMA, advanced mastercam training, self taught fusion360(thanks). A cnc programmer MUST be involved in the cost and quotes of things to do their job. And everyone should keep a work diary. And work should be planned and written out for everyone at minimum a week in advance. How man ppl come in day to day and ask what's going on today? That's not good. Anyway, just a few thoughts I had.

Instead of lifting the plates from the crate by hand, why not use the existing holes? Or make some holes for a jig to lift it so nobody has to strain to pick up a 100 lb plate awkwardly

Is there a reason why you don’t use a load monitors on your machine? Especially if you’re running it lights out.
@nyccnc

We do! Our okuma horizontal (which runs lights out) uses tool load detection through Fusion 360; we get emails when a specific operation exceeds a limit.

I'm surprised that you're "all coolant off" button overrides M8 in the program. Our old DMC milturn it doesn't matter how many times you press coolant off, it obeys M8 every time Also, if you're Y travel on the okuma let's you, could you use the machine to engrave the corners of the tombstone bases?

I used to run Mazaks and when you first turn on the machine, the coolant would not be on. One time the morning shift did not turn it on and every tool busted. 17-4 stainless. Then they said I had the part in with the good parts with broken drills and stuff in it.
