Back when April Wine was based in Montreal I saw them finish the Harder Faster tour at the old Forum in Montreal. Best. Fucking. Concert. Ever. 20,000 fans going crazy and they played their hearts out. We were all looking at that big red fire alarm bell all concert long and finally, they come out to do their second encore and Jerry Mercer starts going at that bell. We went ape shit. What a show. That was rock and roll!

As a 100% 'Merican my hats off to Canada, man they put out some good bands. Hope the stolen firebells didn't cause any bad consequences...

The last trip I took with my mom we were heading to Salmon arm, B.C to visit family. I had this song on a CD and it started right as we came up on a railway. After a intense brake session we sat at the crossing until the guitar started. There was a cuss or two then 20 minutes or better of laughing. One of my fondest memories of her and my childhood, everytime I hear this song I think of that time. I got 15 years to spend with my mom, I think of all I missed and could have done but not a moment was wasted.

My best friend and I always used to listen to this one on the 8 track stereo in my Dad's red and white '78 Dodge Monaco Brougham. That railroad bell rings back and forth through time. R.I.P Myles. 😪

That isn't a cow bell it is a fire bell - you know the red ones they have in hallways in the schools and such. When this song came out there were a lot of missing fire bells up here in Canada!

April Wine... booked for an concert in Victoria Park, in London Ontario. They hoped to attract a couple of thousand and had a couple of food trucks, minimal security. Yeah... the "washed up" Wine brought in over 30,000 and taught the Canadian music industry, local government and critics a lesson.

Growing up in the 1970s in Canada ... we were kinda spoiled, really. April Wine, Rush, Triumph, Nazareth, Chilliwack, BTO, Stampeders, etc etc etc. Good bands live, most of them, too. REAL musicians, not pretty faces singing crap churned out by hit factories, which was all the music industry really was before the late 1960s...and gee, how strange that it has basically reverted to that for the past twenty years or so as well. History repeating itself...or not learning from our past mistakes...both? lol

Singer/bassist Jim Clench, who wrote this song along with many other early April Wine classics, died of lung cancer today in Montreal. He was 61. He'll be buried in St John's, according to CBC News.

It's not a cowbell or a cymbal. It's a red fire alarm bell on a cymbal stand. (google red fire bell) You can see it's part of Jerry's kit in all the videos. I saw AW many times. That's what Jerry was banging on every single time.

They played this song once and everyone thought there was a fire, so they all left the club, and April Wine kept on playing to an empty club. It took about 15-20 minutes before everyone realized that there was no fire alarm and no fire, so they all gradually shuffled back inside. The band members started to tease the audience, and everyone was really embarrassed. Then for a joke, someone lit the stage on fire for real, and they played the fire bell again, but someone quickly put out the fire.

Mercer had a fire bell mounted on a cymbal stand for this song. I played with Jim when we both lived in Calgary in the early 80's. We didn't do any Wine tunes as Jim wanted to do his new material, but we did talk about this song.

Forget where the band is from, just listen, u knoww....We are all here because we are on the same frequency1..GREAT SONG tho, Peace1
