Just some advice. If you're going to do electrical work you need to get it in your head that neutral and ground are not the same thing. If you continue with that mindset you're going to run into problems. : ) Neutral wires are the return wires for a circuit just like the R and C terminals on a thermostat or the + and - on a car battery. A ground isn't part of a circuit it's just a safety so that if voltage wires bare-out or in otherwise contact the metal frame of the unit it doesn't just sit there being electrified waiting for you to touch it. It just runs that voltage into a ground so you don't electrocute yourself.

Good advice. And a good mindset to get into. But they still sell 3 wire dryer cables and some electric dryers still come wired for a 3wire power cable. So it’s also important to understand why a solenoid would actuate with a hot leg and a ground but also why it is considered bad practice. I consider ground wires part of a circuit.

Nice work condensing so much info into your DSLR’s mem space 😂 - love your attitude! Good job on following wires E2E with close-ups. You also crystallized the benefit of tying into the Electronic Air Cleaner (EAC) terminal to maintain desired RH instead of tying into the HUMidifier terminal. Thanks again.

Just FYI, not all 700 series have external transformers. Mine is internal therefore I didn't need to worry about it. Regardless, the model 60 and 62 humidistat manual does in fact have a wiring diagram illustrating the schematic including the transformer.

Hi I just had this unit installed by an hvac installer , he installed it on the return duct . Should this be installed on return duct or supply duct ? Thanks
@JoshuaAtherton73 жыл бұрын
I was told by a professional HVAC installer that the system is most efficient when the humidifier is installed on the supply duct. However, if access is poor, installing on the return duct is perfectly fine (may lose a small bit of efficiency).

Do not ground the to the furnace. You can create an electrical short that electrifies the metal waiting for someone to ground the circuit. Also the slice should have a wire but it isn’t low voltage it’s 115v. You should use a wire nut.

Good video, just don't do that White (Neutral) wrap around like he did. And DO NOT Ground it with a self tapping screw. That is not good, maybe dangerous.

Beware of saddle valves.... Eventually, the rubber gasket will fail as you have to turn it on and off every season. Unfortunately, mine did after ~10 years and it made a mess ! Ball valves are much better long term solution.
@MSeanM4 жыл бұрын
Why would you need to turn it on and off every season? The humidifier has a solenoid to do that.
@ptg014 жыл бұрын
@@MSeanM great question. Habit I suppose. Been doing it for decades. You have a good point.
@pro70704 жыл бұрын
Even if you dont turn it on and off the rubber will eventually get hard and fail. Or take the pipe out of round when initially piercing it. No way I'd ever use a saddle valve in attic. Not worth the risk. Hard pipe it or it very least compression tee. But DIY'ers go for easiest solution in many cases.
@chadgoodell63733 жыл бұрын
No need to turn on/off ever. My HVAC guy just installed the saddle valve- probably just because it came with the unit, but it’s located directly over my sump pit and a drain so I’ll take my chances for now.

@MSeanM4 жыл бұрын
The humidistat will allow the G from the house thermostat through. IE if the home thermostat is cooling and signals G, the humidifier's humidistat will allow that through and turn on the fan. This connection is to allow the humidifier to turn the fan on and supply humidity itself, even if the home's thermostat isn't asking for heat or cool.
