While in Japan often breakfast, at a local cafe, would consist of an inch thick slice of this bread lightly toasted, slathered with butter, a tiny side salad and a delicious freshly brewed cup of coffee with a thimble-full of heavy cream on the side. It was " Morning A" on the menu. "Morning B" added half a hard boiled egg and a dab of mayonnaise. Absolutely delightful.

Made this yesterday. It was fantastic! And surprisingly easy! Highly recommend if you have the time. You don’t need a square bread pan either - I took the rolls from the last step and proofed them in a regular loaf pan side by side. Turned out perfect.

@@CrossmoorMafia Supermarket bread here in Japan isn't all that fantastic. Very, very average for the most part. Some speciality bakeries do make some great bread however. Fantastic bread in fact. This kind of square bread is to my mind a stupid fad and nothing more. Useful for making sandwiches perhaps but not much else.

I've read that in certain religious rituals in Japan, certain types of cuisine is made as offerings to ancestors/dieties. I don't understand Japanese religion well, but I know that it has used ritualistic recipes as ritual offerings before, so that may be where the distinction comes from.

Fun fact, Glade discovered one of the key components to it being so clingy was a carcinogen so they removed it from their products and it is the reason why it's not so sticky anymore.

Now I guess I know why; big label products purposefully remove it so you end up using more and then buying more. What jerks!

@@lucgregoire4015 I thought it only caused cancer when consumed in a high enough quantity (such as daily smokers) by digestion, inhalation, or other means of intake. If the carcinogen is in the wrap, and your not literally cooking the food with the wrap mixed in, then you should be fine as long as you wash your hands.

I make this recipe in my bread machine all the time and it turns out great. No need to proof yeast. Just add ingredients in order specified by bread machine (i.e. liquids first, then dry stuff and yudane, and yeast last). I use the French Bread setting for a 1 lb loaf with light crust setting and it's perfect.

Followed this recipe to the tee, hydration ratio seemed off since I started off with a really wet dough. Had to add an extra 100g~ of flour to get the right consistency as seen in the video. Also, I’d suggest to anyone following the recipe to use 5-8g of yeast instead of 2.5 as my dough had trouble rising properly. I’m pretty sure all these problems are because Japanese bread flour is a lot different than flour here in North America. Different ash content, protein content, etc.

As someone who made a lot of bread on my college course, when making bread its best to continue kneading the dough instead of adding flour it will slowly get less sticky and result in a nicer bread overall. It could also be why it didn't rise properly. Hope this helps :)

I think it is because is says to use whipping cream but clearly they use sweetened condensed milk or something similar in consistency. Definitely not as liquid as cream is tho.

Hey so I’m really into baking and I decided to try this out I’m basically half way through it at this moment!! I’m waiting for the bread to rise currently and just taking a break and wow I respect the amount of work you put into this because it is not as easy as it looks!! I had a bit of trouble along the way but found my way out of it with knowledge from my past culinary class. Update: finished it up the next day because I got tired but ended up putting a twist on it with a thin coat of egg wash on top with cinnamon and sugar on top! It came out absolutely amazing

Am I the only one disappointed that the person just tore the bread after making it? It looked so perfect. Then saved it by slicing it. I might have had a meltdown if it just ended with someone just tearing up a loaf of bread.

@@SquirrelYouSmokeWith personally I don't like it. I've never really liked the break in Japan. It's all too sweet even the "normal" bread. Some people like it but I miss proper bread from my home country. This bread is good for French toast though

I was referring to the Yudane. It takes ~4.5 Tbsp of flour, not 2, if 40 ml of hot milk is used.
